Historical Schools of Vaughan

by cityofvaughan

From the early 1800s to the 1960s, most schools in Vaughan were cramped one or two-room buildings, where strict discipline and moral instruction were the orders of the day. By 1885, there were 21 School Sections in the community, each with its own elected board of trustees responsible for administering the business of their school. This exhibit provides information and photographs on these school, with information gathered from within the City’s Archival collection as well as from the “History of the County of York (1885)”.
