Carrville Public School (School Section No. 3) was built on Lot 15, Concession 2, by Nathaniel Burr in 1846. The ages of pupils ranged from 5-23 and students were taught subjects such as grammar and geography. In 1860, a new building was constructed, using part of the old structure, and then was enlarged before 1885, allowing for more pupils to be educated. In 1885, James Bassingthwaite, was the teacher and the average class attendance was 38. In the above photograph, students are portrayed outside the school in ca. 1919. The building was still in use by its 100th anniversary in 1960, however it closed soon after the site was sold, and the old building was taken down.
