Patterson School, ca. 1918

School Section No. 19

As a result of the large number of children in Patterson Village, Peter Patterson asked permission to build a school and donated the land. School Section No. 19 (Patterson School), was formed from parts of Jefferson, Richmond Hill, Carrville, Hope and Maple sections, with the consent of ratepayers. In 1872, the first building was opened, with forty to fifty pupils and Mr. Boliths as the first teacher. The school was replaced in 1917, and the above depicts students outside the replaced school in about 1918. The school was closed and sold in 1974.
