S.S. No. 13 School Class, ca. 1913-1915
School Section No. 13
School Section No. 13, also known as the Lower Ninth, was opened in 1846. It originally consisted of a log structure and then a frame building. Parents and trustees regularly visited the school to attend classes, as well as testing the students on their knowledge base and to determine the quality of their instruction. Students also underwent regular oral exams by parents and trustees. In 1875, a new, larger building was constructed. Above is a postcard of the students outside of School Section No. 13, in 1913 or 1914. The next building was used until 1939, when a new building was opened closer to the highway. The school eventually closed in 1965.
