Burrlington School

School Section No. 18

In 1864, Burrlington School (School Section No. 18), was established. The trustees were Benjamin Snell, William Patterson and James Burgess. William Johnston was the first teacher and there were usually 20 students. However, in the winter attendance could surge to sixty or seventy people. These students came from not only Vaughan, but also the surrounding townships of King, Albion and Toronto Gore. In 1899, a new foundation was added, and the building was brick clad, as shown above. Over time, the building was modernized, and more land was purchased for a school garden. In 1960, the school became part of the Vaughan Township School area.
