Thornhill School House, 1921

School Section No. 2

Referred to as the Cober Schoolhouse, or School Section No. 2, this building was located on Lot 34, Concession 1. Pictured above in 1921, this school was built in 1815, was one of the oldest in the county and could accommodate roughly 100 students. However, in 1885 average attendance was much lower, numbering just 4 pupils, with Emma M. Ansley as the teacher. The school was moved to a farm in Edgeley when a new brick schoolhouse was built in 1892. This new building lasted until 1923, when it was burned, just as a new and larger school was being built at its current location of 7754 Yonge Street.
