Maple Public School, ca. 1910
School Section No. 6
The first school that was designated as Maple School (School Section No. 6), was built in 1861 on what was later the site of the Vaughan Township Area Administration Offices. When the building became overcrowded, part of the old Presbyterian Church was moved to the site, as a second classroom. These two buildings were used until 1896, when they were demolished, and a two-room brick schoolhouse was constructed. Pictured above is the school in 1910. In 1955, additional land was purchased and a four-room schoolhouse, named after George Bailey, was opened. This building was later enlarged.
