Jefferson Public School, 1970

School Section No. 21

The first Jefferson school (School Section No. 21) was a log building. This was replaced in 1868 by a one road brick school built across the road in Markham, with additional land being added to the schoolyard in 1881. The present brick building was built in 1951, with the official opening occurring the following year. The building committee was comprised of William Bell, Clayton Beynon, Neil Dibb and George McNair. The trustees of the school were Norman Burnett, Arthur Gibson, Dickson Miller and John Passmore, who acted as chairman. The school is pictured above in 1970.
