What a great day that was. First being at the wonderful Wiener Fotobörse by Jo Geier and then I captured a „memory lane“ dry plate on my way home and did a salt print of it. Check out my video about it: youtu.be/0C3MvXUT86M #analog #largeformat #analogue #landscapephotography #handmade

The Deardorff I use was made in 1939. It isn't a museum piece. It's heavy, and bulky. I have to be very careful not to break the ground glass while carting it around. Folks stop and ask, "Do they still make film for that?" while I'm using it. That's the question I was asked while setting up for this shot. What inspires me to continue using bulky, old camera with weighty optics is, quite simply, magic. I am always amazed by what film can capture, especially while using tiny apertures.

Camera: Deardorff 8x10

Lens: 12" Kodak Ektar

Film: Ilford HP5+ Developed in Kodak HC-110.

The tide rolls in and out twice per day. Fourteen times per week. Sixty times per month. Seven hundred and thirty times per year. Seven thousand three hundred times per decade. The ocean slowly beats against and eats away at the sandstone bluffs without any perceptible changes from day to day or year to year. However, given enough time the ocean carves beautiful patterns into the sandstone bluffs overhanging the shorelines south of Nanaimo. Exploring and capturing these tidal creations basking in warm reflective light has been one of the highlights of my summer.
