FR - En juin 1973 au dépôt du Charolais (près de la Gare de Lyon à Paris 12e), la BB 69 attend son prochain service, entourée par une BB 8100, une BB 9400 et deux BB 9300. Elle assurait alors un service de manœuvres et de remontes de rames dans le secteur Paris Gare de Lyon, garages et entretien de Bercy-Conflans, et Villeneuve Saint-Georges.
La BB 69 a été construite pour la Compagnie du Paris-Orléans (P.O.) en 1927. Elle appartenait à la série appelée « BB 1-80 ». Durant sa carrière, elle avait subi diverses transformations, mais elle avait conservé ses superbes pantographes d'origine. Elle a été retirée du service en décembre 1974.

EN - In June 1973 at the Charolais engine shed (Paris Gare de Lyon), the BB 69 is seen awaiting her next duty, surrounded by a BB 8100, a BB 9400 and two BB 9300s. At the time, she was assigned to shunting duties and empty passenger train transfers in the Paris Gare de Lyon sector, working between the station and the Bercy-Conflans and Villeneuve Saint-Georges maintenance yards.
BB 69 was built in 1927 as E 69 for the Paris-Orléans Railway (P.O.). She belonged to a series called “BB 1-80”. Over the course of her career, she received a number of alterations, yet she retained her magnificent original pantographs. She was withdrawn from service in December 1974.

I continued following the line from Usti nad Labem Strekov to Lysa nad Labem. It was a nice road to follow, but photo opportunities were scarce. In Libochovany I found a spot to park the car though, and the view turned out to be quite interesting. The town on the top left of the photo is Dubice, and is located on the other side of the river.
There was nice sunlight for this passenger train; I wasn't as lucky for the freight train.

Le 27 Décembre dernier, l’habituel gazier reliant Martigues à Sibelin remonte en fin d’après-midi avec en tête l’Euro 4018. Le convoi est vu de passage à Saint Martin de Crau.

La résurrection de la locomotive 141.R.568, un colosse de fer de 190 tonnes
Elle était laissée à l’abandon, en bout de gare de Schaffhouse. Un Vallorbier, fou de trains, l’a remise sur rails. La 141.R.568, locomotive à vapeur de 1945, ravive aujourd’hui le romantisme ferroviaire
Les Mikado de la série 141 R numéros 1 à 1340 sont des locomotives à vapeur unifiées de la SNCF qui furent largement utilisées pour tous services sur l'ensemble du réseau français de 1945 à 1974.
Construites en Amérique du Nord en deux séries (1 à 700 et 701 à 1340) suivant un modèle inédit en France, utilisées partout et pour toutes les tâches et besoins ferroviaires, elles sont intimement liées au renouveau du réseau ferré français d'après-guerre ainsi qu'à la fin de la traction à vapeur en France.
Neuf machines de cette série emblématique sont aujourd'hui préservées en France (dont cinq protégées au titre des monuments historiques) et en Suisse.

After a good day of shooting trains in the snow in the beautiful Voeren region, I didn't feel like going home yet.
I went to a location I had gone to before, without snow though. I like the spot because it has this little bridge, a fence, which make it a bit more interesting for night photography.
The 3 trains I was able to shoot weren't the nicest, unfortunately, full of graffiti. Next time I'll have to book a hotel room and stay a bit longer, because honestly, on the way back I could barely stay awake.

I was out of inspiration as to where to photograph next. CFL1800 and Peter Gootzen kindly let me follow them to the station of Krefeld Linn. Standing on the platform we awaited a few trains - from the expected trains, one would be hauled by a recently repainted Ludmilla engine!
The building on the left of the frame is an old signalling cabin, I think. It seems to be out of service for a while now.
These rebuilt class 216 locomotives are rare: only 6 of them exist. Here NIAG number 8, ex-216 055, hauls a train through Krefeld-Linn.

After travelling from Southwark yard to Saint-Hyacinthe and picking up 45 cars prepared during the day by CN 519, the Saint-Hyacinthe switcher, CN 526 (usually a Sorel subdivision switcher) is rolling into Sainte-Madeleine behind a pair of classic, war-torn GP9RM's. The crew could not get their TIBS to work, so the train has to rumble along back to Southwark yard at a hot 15 mph. Usually, the nightly Bécancour-Taschereau train is tasked with lifting traffic out of Saint-Hyacinthe, but CN has recently started to send other crews on particularly busy days, which happen more frequently since Transbordement Saint-Hyacinthe (a transload facility on CN's Saint-Judes spur) has started receiving unit grain trains from the US Midwest. Consist : CN 4102, CN 4140.
Lineas NV/SA: through track 2M of the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges station, this freight train accesses the freight station of the same name. NACCO's Uacs wagons consist is headed by electric locomotive 27135M, an Alstom Prima EL2U built in 2004 for Fret SNCF. It is currently owned by Akiem SAS.
Here you see perfectly the three axle machine with the one motor driving the three wheels similar to a steam engine.
And you might see how this design was derived from the famous crocodile locomotives.
Le 14 Février dernier, la BB 22368 était en tête du Naviland quotidien Venissieux - Marseille Cannet, le convoi est vu avec un peu de retard de passage à Saint Chamas sous le soleil matinal.

La BB 7416 était en tête d’un convoi de citernes reliant Miramas à Saint Jory, de passage à Saint Martin de Crau le 7 Février 2016.
We didn't plan for shots in this direction, but with a southbound train approaching I gave it a try. Even though I was not satisfied with the result on the camera scren, I decided to keep this one, keeping in mind the advice of a good friend to always judge your photos on the computer screen. After some post-processing I had to change my mind and think of this photo as one of the better ones I made at Hochfelden that day.

Het prachtige Dourodal in het noorden van Portugal is niet alleen geliefd bij toeristen maar inmiddels ook een bedevaartsoord voor liefhebbers van klassieke treinen. Hoogtepunt zijn daar de Engelse diesellocomotieven (in licentie gebouwd in Portugal) uit de jaren 60 met o.a. rijtuigen uit de jaren 40. De volledige treinrit met de CP (Comboios de Portugal) langs de Douro van Porto naar Pocinho duurt ongeveer 3,5 uur. Dit beeld bij Arnozelo zegt voldoende waarom het hier aantrekkelijk is voor zowel toeristen als spoorwegliefhebbers.
The beautiful Douro Valley in northern Portugal is not only loved by tourists but now also a place of pilgrimage for lovers of classic trains. Highlights there are the English diesel locomotives (built under licence in Portugal) from the 1960s with a.o. coaches from the 1940s. The entire train ride along the Douro from Porto to Pocinho takes about 3.5 hours. This image at Arnozelo says enough about why it is attractive here for tourists and railway enthusiasts alike.
