A spot I keep returning to is this one close to Kamp-Bornhofen. Is it because of a previous time when I missed this same train hauled by a black class 66 engine? I had taken a group photo using the camera's timer a few moments before, and had forgotten to turn it off. And you only notice it when pressing the shutter button results in beep...beep instead of click.

Our yearly family holiday was in the north of Istria, where we could enjoy sun and sea, and visit towns like Poreč and Rovinj. We were also located rather close to Koper, and this led me to spend 1 full day on the Koper ramp between Koper and Črnotiče.
I kicked off the day right after sunrise in Dekani. Here I met fellow holidaymaker Björn, with whom I made photos of the first 3 trains in sunlight leaving the port of Koper that day.
The daily night train from Maribor to Koper, that runs during summer and also carries carriages coming from Budapest, was announced with a delay of approximately 90 minutes. This led to an opportunity in Hrastovlje, at a location where I had not yet made pictures. The hike to the location, which started at the ruin in Zanigrad, was not the easiest. The view was worth it however, and we were treated on a number of freight trains on top of the passenger train.

The church that on the previous photo was visible down, on the right, can now be seen in the middle of the photo. The train will pass it 2 more time before reaching the upper level of Wassen's railroad. For the railway photographers this offers endless angles to watch the trains go by - the passengers get numerous different views of the beautiful valley.
We were lucky to catch one of the few green engines left in front of this regional train to Locarno.

But finally we got our freight train! Followed by a very quick hike to the car, and fresh air.

La SY X301 (CFD Montmirail, 1971) è titolare del treno CP 531 ("Navette" Nice - Colomars-La Manda) dello scorso 29 dicembre, La foto mostra quella che dovrebbe essere la più vecchia automotrice in servizio regolare di Francia, in arrivo alla stazione di Saint-Isidore qualche minuto prima del tramonto.
Sun was totally gone by now, but I didn't care. Semmering railway with all its curves is moody on its own, add to that the beautifully colored foliage: it's probably even better without sunshine.
I had reserved a hotel in Semmering so no hurry as I was finding my way through the forests. I ventually ended up on top of the entrance of the Weberkogeltunnel. This train came as a surprise: I had just shot an uphill scrap train, while all of a sudden another uphill train came around the corner, slowly passing the first one. A video of the moment is right here.
Unfortunately, also the Semmering railway has fallen for the Vectronization of Europe's rail.

FR - Le 4 août 1973 à 7h55, à Paris Gare de Lyon.
Ambiance très seventies à la gare de Lyon avec cette BB 67000 en version d’origine avec ses enjoliveurs et plaques en relief, la BB 9400 au loin et des voitures ex-PLM. C’était le 4 août 1973 par une journée d’été maussade et pluvieuse.
La BB 67008 va partir dans 5 minutes avec un l’express 5929 en direction de Nevers. Ce train était composé de voitures ex-PLM et de voitures « Bruhat » (modernisées Sud-Est - B10t) au confort sommaire.

EN – August 4, 1973, 7 :55 am, Paris Gare de Lyon
A very seventies atmosphere at Gare de Lyon with this BB 67000 in original condition, still carrying its decorative trims and raised number plates, a BB 9400 in the distance, and ex-PLM passenger coaches. It was 4 August 1973, on a dull and rainy summer morning.
BB 67008 is due to depart in five minutes with express train 5929 bound for Nevers. The train was made up of ex-PLM coaches and “Bruhat” coaches (modernised Sud-Est – B10t), offering rather basic comfort.

Le 17 Février 2017, la BB 7260 surnommée « schrek » du fait de son nez de couleur kaki, assurait un intercités Marseille Saint Charles - Bordeaux Saint Jean. De passage sur le viaduc de Beaucaire.
De FGC (Ferrocarriles de la Generalidad de Cataluña) exploiteert o.a. de metersporige voorstadslijnen vanaf Barcelona Plaça d'Espanya naar Manresa en Igualada. In 1984 reden hier nog MAN-dieseltreinen en Navales-elektrische treinen uit 1960. In Cornellá de Llobregat lagen de rails toen vlak langs de huizen maar later is hier een tunnel aangelegd. Google streetview laat de huidige situatie zien met duidelijk te herkennen aan de rechterzijde de flat en daarnaast de twee puntgevels van het lagere fabrieksgebouw. Moderne treinstellen passeren hier nu ondergronds.

In 1984 DMU's of MAN and EMU's of Navales built in 1960 were still in service. In Cornellá de Llobregat the tracks were then close to the buildings but later a tunnel section was built here. Google streetview shows the present situation at the exact same location as in 1984. Modern trains are still running here but below the surface.

The locomotive had arrived on the 12:45 from Corwen, ran around and departed on the 13:45 back to Corwen.

La BB75104 est en tête d'un céréalier composé de wagons "Soufflet" reliant Rouen-Martainville à Bobigny, puis Troyes et enfin les sillos de Polisot dans le Grand Est. La rame vient de passer Herblay avec +30. Pas commun de voir cet EF passer par le groupe VI !
I moved further to where Dieter and Daan were standing. We didn’t have to wait long before some more colorful trains passed us: Rurtalbahn with its Lok-Spitze Vectron, BLS Cargo with one of their Alpinist Vectrons, and the expected purple HSL 186 383. This was much more than what I had expected!

Today takes place the farewell tour for the Traxx and ICR Benelux trains. Since the Fyra story they have been a regular sight on Belgian rails Between Brussels, Antwerp and the Dutch border. Today they run their adieu tour on rails they rarely rode on.
Back in 2018 I captured one then regular consist in Brussels-South, terminal station. It had just arrived from Den Haag. Then a common sight.

Today on railscapes.blog: no Dutch trains, but some French trains on the end of a beautiful summmer day.
By the time I got to the Ruhr area, I only got to check out the Duisburg-Hochfeld railway bridge, where I ended my previous visit. It's an interesting structure, mainly because of the original 1870's bridgehead standing next to the bridge currently in use.
DB's 185 192 is crossing the Rhine river with an intermodal train, probably heading south. There are so many lines running in the Ruhr area, it's hard to know which line is used by which trains. That's another good excuse to return and go find out!

De Fichtelbergbahn vanuit Cranzahl, Saksen kent een mooi viaduct vlak voor het eindpunt Kurort Oberwiesenthal. Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) stoomloc 99 1772-5 arriveert hier met een gemengde trein. Zorgvuldig was van te voren gepland dat op dit tijdstip de zonnestand goed zou zijn voor de foto ........:-) De Duitsers zeggen dan "so ein Mist" - vertaald is dit echter geen "mist" maar "wat een ellende". Eigenlijk valt dat hier achteraf best wel mee.
Narrow gauge Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) steam locomotive 99 1772-5 heading a mixed train is approaching Kurort Oberwiesenthal (Fichtelbergbahn in Saxony, Germany). In advance it was carefully planned that at this time of the day the sunshine would have been right here for the picture ......... :-)

A few hours later than previous photo. Fingers frozen, and getting tired. On the way back to the highway we came across a Captrain engine waiting to leave the Alaska section. This would have been a nice one to follow, but me and my friends lights were fading out so it was time to head back to our respective homes.

The Dart Valley Railway Company's class 45xx prairie tank 4555 at Llangollen Station. The locomotive is normally based at Paignton though has been hired out to other railways.
