19-07-2024 - The Modder River bridge near Perdeberg is one of the best spots on the otherwise not so scenic Kimberley – Bloemfontein line (Free State, South Africa). The late afternoon light makes the position even more beautiful, as the glint reflects on the side of the train.

We are in Ingeniero Jacobacci, a city in the Veinticinco de Mayo Department of the Río Negro Province of Argentina. This is in Patagonia. More precisely, we are inside the locomotive depot of the narrow gauge railway called “La Trochita”.
The Baldwin #3 is leaving the depot for a day of work on the main line, engulfing the roof with lots of smoke. The orange light comes from the rising sun.

The High Tatra mountains are hiding behind… equally High clouds. Tough luck, but train traffic was overcompensating. Below a selection of what I saw. Regiojet was expected, PKP Cargo wasn’t. This line was definitely rocking it, making the far trip here all the more worthwhile.

Le 19 Juillet dernier, la BB 67514 de la CMR (Cellule des matériels radiés) acheminait les X4903/4, X4911/12 et le X2825 à destination de Carnoules et de l’ATTCV pour y être préservés, le convoi est vu à Graveson sur la dernière partie de son trajet (Saint Étienne - Carnoules). Les engins seront ensuite amenés au dépôt de Besse sur Issole et la locomotive repartira le lendemain.
La BB67558 dans sa livrée Corail+, achemine 10 BB66000 radiées depuis le triage de Sotteville jusqu'à Châlons-en-Champagne puis le ferrailleur de Baroncourt. Le convoi est vu à Herblay bien à l'heure sous une éclaircie inespérée !
October 23, 1983, 17h05 : The “Picasso” railcar X-3859 leaves Cravant-Bazarnes for Clamecy.
Before that, it was uncoupled from the 2 other railcars that can be seen behind it. The 3 railcars and the trailer came coupled together from Laroche-Migennes, forming an unusual railcar train composed of three X-3800 and a trailer car. This composition happened only on Sundays because the number of passengers required it. The train was an attractive railfan’s target.

This is the last spot of the afternoon already: freight train traffic was scarce. A northbound intermodal train runs through the town of Braubach. "through" has to be taken literally here: it passes right in front of the houses. Considering this is one of the busiest freight lines in Germany, you can understand why inhabitants of the villages are complaining about noise. Let's hope authorities come up with creative solutions that won't consist of covering the whole railway line with meters-high noise barriers.

(EN) 2044 026, although officially located in Zagreb, can still only rarely be seen on the main route to Varazdin, as it is mostly in service around Osijek in eastern Croatia. After a small overhaul in the autumn of 2015, the locomotive was in charge of passenger services in Varazdin area for few weeks. In the morning of 17/11/2015 it was captured on regional 3004 from Zagreb to Varazdin, shortly after exiting Zabok.
(DE) Die 2044 026 ist, obwohl offiziell in Zagreb beheimatet, nach wie vor relativ selten auf der Hauptstrecke nach Varazdin zu sehen, da sie zumeist rund um Osijek im Osten Kroatiens eingesetzt wird. Nach einer Teilausbesserung im Herbst 2015 wurde die besagte Lokomotive für einige Wochen im Raum Varazdin vor Personenzügen eingesetzt und konnte am Vormittag des 17.11.2015. mit dem Regionalzug 3004 von Zagreb nach Varazdin, kurz nach der Ausfahrt aus Zabok abgelichtet werden.
Last one before an interesting intermezzo. After taking this picture we returned to our car, which was parked close to a level crossing. The level crossing guard started talking to us and pointing to an older lady. We didn't understand, but after a while we got to understand that he wanted us to drive the lady to town. We think. The lady didn't speak French nor English, so she couldn't confirm. There was still place on the back seat so of we went with one person extra. We dropped her off at the place we thought she wanted to go to, judging by the signs of her hands. She kept on smiling, so we assume she got to her destination :)

Train world museum - Bruxelles
The 'Type 12' was a steam locomotives built in 1939 for the fast lightweight operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium. Only six were built, this is the last existing.
In 1939, it was one of the fastest locomotive in the world.
Le Premier des 2 trains touristiques du Chemin de Fer du Haut Forez quitte sa gare d'attache.Le Picasso s'en va pour La Chaise Dieu en ce matin du jour de la fête nationale.Le X2807 viendra le rejoindre dans l'après-midi,puis il redescendront ensemble à Estivareilles en fin de journée.
Après avoir dépassé le Transilien à Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, c'est sous une éclaircie inespérée que se présente la BB67596 qui rapatrie la BB15051 avec la rame Corail 831, du Havre à Paris-Batignolles sous la marche 717202 avec +38.
Début de soirée du 15 Février dernier, un TER Marseille Saint Charles - Avignon passe à Saint Chamas avec pour composition la BB 22258 RC et sa RRR avec la propreté made-in PACA habituelle.
I needed this view: A locomotive taking the curve and the Gitschen with 2'500 metres towering over it. I had not the time to wait for another train, but an Re 4/4 II is certainly a great machine.
Judging the satellite images, the section between Hay Saada and Ain Taoujdate used to curve a lot, until it was replaced by a new line with a viaduct. Very likely combined with a speed increase and electrification. This viaduct near Ait Bouil is also nice to look at, and we spent some time making pictures of the rather dense passenger traffic.

A CP local out of Alyth yard is seen rolling through downtown Calgary with some tonnage for Keith yard, in the northwestern outskirts of the city. Doing the honours on this cold day of late October is a pair of SD40-2's of SOO heritage. Consist : CP 6614, CP 6610.
Een tweede keer dit jaar in Ukraïne geweest en ik kan inmiddels goed begrijpen dat de echte spoorweghobbyisten hier regelmatig naartoe gaan. Het is daar in 2019 reizen per trein als bij ons in West-Europa 40 jaar geleden - terug naar de basis met daarbij alles vele maten groter en intenser. Een blik tussen twee voorstadstreinen van de Oekraïense spoorwegen (UZ) onder de stationskap van Lviv zegt genoeg.
