Waiting for the train at Shibamata, on the outskirts of Tokyo (a very different place from the hustle and bustle of more central areas - and very pleasant).
For the really nerdy ones: the station is operated by the Keisei Electric Railway, this station being on the Keisei Kanamachi Line, a railway line with a total of 3(!) stations, Shibamata being the one in the middle, on a distance of in total 2,5 km. The station opened in 1912 and the Kanamachi line started operating in 1913.
And this photo is actually in the wrong direction - this is looking in the direction we were going, so the train was coming from behind.
Met een forse stoompluim in top passert de smalspoortrein van Ochsenhausen naar Warthausen. Het vroege ochtendlicht komt juist over de heuvels en schijnt door de vensters van de twee rijtuigen. De bagagewagen en de twee goederenwagens zijn drie-assers. Dat valt bij dit silhouet in tegenlicht goed te zien.

In 1899 werd door de Württembergische Staatsbahn de bijna 20 km lange smalspoorlijn van Warthausen naar Ochsenhausen geopend. De Öchsle Schmalspurbahn rijdt hier nu nog altijd met museumtreinen waaronder met deze Mallet-locomotief 99 633 geleverd door Maschinenfabrik Esslingen in het openingsjaar van de lijn. Tijdens een speciale rit werd al voor dag en (met heel veel) dauw vertrokken om in het ochtendgloren de authentieke trein vast te leggen.
In 1899 the "Württembergische Staatsbahn" inaugurated the narrow gauge railway line from Warthausen to Ochsenhausen. Nowadays the "Öchsle Schmalspurbahn" runs as a heritage line amongst others with steam locomotive 99 633 (class Mallet built by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen in 1899). At dawn a special charter was spotted near Ochsenhausen.

Waiting for the train back to Shinjuku at Gōtokuji train station (the station is named after the temple Gōtokuji, which is a few blocks away - famous for the beckoning cat, Manekineko).
And for the train enthusiasts (I am actually not one, but I find trains, train stations and train tracks to be pleasant to work with when taking photos):
The station opened on April 1 1927 and is operated by the Odakyu train company, located at their Odawara line, being stop number 10 (of a total of 47! But by then the train is far from Tokyo, I might add, and in Odawara which is in a different prefecture). The first stop on the line is Shinjuku, and it was there our trip to Gōtokuji, Setagaya, started (well, sort of, at first we had get there, but that's another story) and ended (well... but we did eat there).
I can also add, that when looking at the Tokyo Subway map (which includes all kind of train transports, overground too) and you are unfamiliar with it you will be scared (Google it!), but I think it is by far the easiest city to get around in I've ever been to. You might get squashed at rush-hour, but the rest of the time it is quite comfortable!
Het innemen van een passende positie afhankelijk van de zonnestand geldt niet alleen voor de fotograaf maar ook voor de zonnebloemen. In het veldje bij de halte Gelindchen hebben de bedektzadigden hun bloemhoofden meegedraaid met de zonnestand.
Bij de halte onder de boom tuft Talbot-motorwagen T102 uit 1950 met een rustige gang voorbij want reizigers vallen op het vroege uur in geen velden of wegen te bekennen. Oorspronkelijk deed er op de smalspoorlijn van de Geilenkirchener Kreisbahnen ook zo'n Talbot-motorrijtuig dienst. Het is zodoende zeer passend dat de Selkantbahn een overeenkomstig voertuig van de Inselbahn Langeoog heeft weten te verwerven.

Appareil de photo posé sur le rail. Pas très original, mais ça m'amusait ! Les traverses, les gros boulons, le ballaste, tout ça !
De Betuwelijn tussen Tiel en Elst is nog altijd een fotogenieke 'nevenlijn'. Op het bekende fotopunt bij Valburg passeert Stadler GTW 256 richting Arnhem in een - eindelijk eens - lente-uitstralende setting en ook de wolkjes werkten plezierig mee.
Arriva DMU 256 (Stadler GTW built 2012 and nicknamed Spurt) on its way from Tiel to Arnhem near Valburg. Finally a long-awaited nice spring day in The Netherlands!

After the great lunch, we jumped in the car for a few hours drive. I had picked a spot on the map, rather at random, where the sun would be standing good. It turned out to be a garbage heap with a view. Thanks to the smell and the weird people hanging around, good for one photo before we moved on.

S 252 064-1 hauling EM 1072 (Valencia Joaquin Sorolla 07:40 - Barcelona Sants 10:35) with the city of Sitges in the background on 15th March 2014.
The EM 1072 (with the return train EM 1371/1571) is the only Euromed-service which is operated by a loco-hauled trainset instead of a S130-trainset.
