And yes, I was lucky in Güterglück. Of the multiple freight trains that I saw, I’ll show 2. Very surprising to me to see so many freight trains on a Sunday. I wonder if this is normal in the east of Germany.

As is usually the case, it was very sunny until the moment the train we really wanted to see had to pass. In this case, Eurocity 91 "Vaubaun" from Brussels to Basel.

The eighth wonder of the world really is AC traction. A heavy loaded potash train bound for New Brunswich grinds through the crossovers at Montbec on a beautiful first day of spring 2021.
On the to-do list before the end of the year were the evening southbound trains originating from the Hauts-de-France region. It was a very special evening. Upon arrival it was still raining quite hard, and I had to wait some time in the car before being able to go out without getting soaked. During the set-up for the photos, lightning bolts were still shooting around near me, clearing up the ink-black night. It was a very intense experience, and I was happy when the first train finally approached. It was still raining lightly, but I didn't mind one bit because it allowed me to picture the night as it was.
CP's six-day-a-week Brownville Junction-Montréal manifest glides into Foster with a CMQ veteran leading a rebuilt CP toaster. The crew members started their shift in the wee hours in Jackman and met the eastbound train at Gould siding at sunrise, and now have about 25 miles to go to Farnham yard. Consist : CMQ 9017, CP 8142.

A very unusual view at the time it was made: a B-Logistics engine running along the Rhine valley. Today this has become more common as Lineas' Green Xpress network has proven to be succesfull, with their network still growing. Engine 186 209, running for Crossrail since January 2018, is pictured in an oh-so-typical setting on this stretch of German railway.

Venant de quitter les silos de la coopérative Cérèsia, le convoi est photographié sur cette VUTR et dans un joli cadre champêtre. La BB 60042 et la BB 60097 sont en charge du 93160 à destination de Bobigny. Par la suite ce train partira du côté de Lestrem (62) (Société Roquette).
Après avoir effectué des essais ERTMS sur le territoire suisse, la BB 22251 achemine la rame d'essai composée de la BB 27110E, BB 27109E, la voiture "Aline", la voiture 235-8 et la BB 27028E de Genève-La-Praille à Bellegarde. La rame est vue à Satigny située dans le canton de Genève à quelques kilomètres de la frontière française.

Did I mention endless possibilities before? A few minutes earlier we were making photos standing left of the house. A completely different view, necessary because the other view was getting boring with so many trains passing :).
My grateful thoughts go to SBB for choosing a nice contrasting paint scheme for their locomotives.

You can't always have drinks on a terrace in between visits when it's sunny, right? Not always, indeed, so I found myself next to the tracks for a little while, while my girlfriend was chilling out along the water. South of Stockholm's train station is a bridge over the water, right before the tracks dive into a tunnel.
I didn't stay that long, really, but got to see a lot of interesting trains besides the frequent commuter trains.
Skandinaviska Jernbanor was renting at the time Vectron AC 193 922 from Railpool for its services between Stockholm and Göteborg. They were forced to stop operations by the Swedish Transport Agency in july 2016, but were allowed to continue operations in december of the same year. Pictured is the "Blue Train" to Göteborg.

A bit closer to track level, aiming my telelens through the bushes, I snapped a photo of Railtraxx' train 42554 from Passau to Antwerp. I discovered this view on a rainy day, and it turns out to be useful on a regular overcast moment too, albeit without the special effects with water involved.

What makes a photo location a good one? Among my criteria are a nice landscape as back- or foreground, no clutter like communication masts or fences, and "peace and quiet". You don't see the last criterium on the photo, but it makes the waiting nice. Add a little sunshine and some interesting trains, and I may be tempted to stick around for a while... even though I prefer to see as large a number of places as possible on a photoday.
After the unsuccesfull tries around Bezpravi, I couldn't resist the temptation to stick around for a while at Ceska Trebova. It was a quiet place to sit, and train traffic was very busy.
