Another shot of the same train as one week earlier, with a different consist. On April 11th 2017, almost exactly 3 years ago, an SNCF TRAXX locomotive was seen transporting coal wagons towards France.

Varanasi (India) - Change of scenery and return to India with a series made in October 2023. This photo was taken as I was returning from the Kharbuza slum where I had spent the whole morning photographing the medical team of the NGO Action Bénarès. To get back to the main avenue facing the station, the shortest way is to cross the railway tracks. You just have to be careful because even during the works, one train can hide another.

Christmas Eve, and the train station was almost deserted. These spaces are already liminal, not destinations themselves, just way points between other places, but when they are this quiet, after dark, it just increases that sensation.

The Steam car CZm 1/2 was built in 1902 for a private railway company, but quickly moved to the SBB property. But the SBB had no use for such a small vehicle, so they sold it to the Uetikon-Bauma-Bahn (UeBB).
A view from the eastern most part of the Koper railway between Koper and Divača. It was a challenge to climb up the hill and navigate towards an open spot we saw from ground level. We made it eventually, but I don't know if it was the intended open spot.
The view was great in any case: a full view from Hrastovlje until Črnotiče.

Our machine got yesterday some fresh air.
We had to mount the second air tank for the brakes. You see here the machine without the tank being mounted.
The small tractor was drawing the machine out onto to the turntable and pushing it back to a track, where we could bring the air tank with a fork lift in.
As the air tank and axle on this side are mounted, we will add the ladder and handrails next month.

EN – May 26, 1974, at the Villeneuve St Georges roundhouse
In the early 1970s, the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges roundhouse saw an extraordinary variety of locomotive classes.
In this photograph one can see (or at least glimpse a small portion of) nine locomotives belonging to seven different classes, all operating on the 1,500-volt DC system: BB 9300, BB 1600, BB 8100, BB 9400, 2D2 9100, BB 9200 and CC 7100.
Today, the number of different types still using this fine roundhouse is far smaller, and all are dual-voltage (or more).
In addition, beyond what appears in the photograph, other types of locomotives were also present in the depot that day: electric BB 1–80 and diesel BB 63000, 63500, 66000 and 67000, as well as small two-axle shunting tractors of various types, making a total of 54 engines around the turntable or in its immediate vicinity.
The BB 8100s were the most numerous, with 15 units present around the turntable at that time on that day.
Other classes of electric locomotives usually operating in the area — on the Paris–Lyon–Marseille main line or on the Grande Ceinture — were absent, as none happened to be passing through the depot at that moment: CC 6500, CC 21000, BB 8500, BB 25500 and CC 1100.
Movements in and out of the depot and on the turntable were intense. 1974 was the year in which freight traffic on the SNCF network reached its all-time record.

The High Tatra mountains are hiding behind… equally High clouds. Tough luck, but train traffic was overcompensating. Below a selection of what I saw. Regiojet was expected, PKP Cargo wasn’t. This line was definitely rocking it, making the far trip here all the more worthwhile.

A short Chemin de fer Sartigan train led by a pair of MLW products rumbles south through Breakeyville on its return trip from CN's Joffre yard to Scott, QC. The Sartigan was created in 2013 to operate freight service on former CP track now owned and maintained by the Province of Québec. They have been steadily growing their customer base, which is mainly centered around the town of Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon, QC, and roster four operational MLW units. Consist : CFS 2047, CFS 8033.

EN - Train 47635, a block grain service loaded to 1,800 tonnes, runs south from Vallorbe towards Lausanne and the Simplon route, passing the church of Bretonnières with Re 620 013 in charge.
In freight coding, the train is a PERT - CUN. It originates at PERT, Perrigny Triage (marshalling yard) near Dijon (France), and is destined for CUN, meaning Cuneo.
The Re 620 provides traction between Vallorbe and Domodossola, before the consist continues deeper into Italy under FS/RFI control. This service is a regular heavy grain flow moving from French production areas into the Italian market via the Simplon corridor.

The Belgian series 27 locomotives have nearly reached the end of their lifetime. Only 18 more locomotives are running: 15 in their original livery with SNCB, 2 with Certus Rail Solutions in a nice colorful livery, and 1 truly unique locomotive with SNCB in their white-yellow livery. This makes the locomotive very popular with railfans.
Last Friday, right before lighting my barbecue, I was able to catch it with a rush hour train to Poperinge. And if the locomotive isn't special enough: also the M5 coaches and the Vierendeel type bridge are becoming rare.
