The weather on the Semmering line for the coming days would be rain, rain, and more rain. The north of Italy, however, looked promising, and by this time I was longing for a good dose of vitamin D. I decided to head to the border station of Tarvisio, that I had never visited before. These 3 hours on the road became some of the hardest I can remember. Due to an accident, I lost about an hour between Judenburg and Klagenfurt. And then the storm still had to come... I had to seriously reduce speed due to the heavy wind and rain, and at some point I couldn't avoid a traffic sign anymore that had given up resistance. Later than expected I arrived in Tarvisio at my hotel, where I could fortunately still enjoy a delicious pizza.
The morning after looked as if nothing ever happened... as morning afters can sometimes be like. During sunrise I drove to the entrance of the tunnel east of Tarvisio Boscoverde. I was lucky enough to catch the morning regional express train from Udine to Villach. Società Ferrovie Udine-Cividale owns 2 Taurus locomotives and a set of ex-ÖBB coaches for this service. This image at sunrise was well worth the ride for me. We see FUC 1216 301 (190 301) with regional train 1820 from Udine to Villach at Tarvisio Boscoverde. October 24, 2025.
Next I would be waiting for some more southbound traffic, both freight and passenger. Two white TXL Vectrons kicked off the parade. Both brand-new Vectrons are almost unrecognizable against the backdrop of Tovo Lungo and Giggeregg - Corno Clicher. They are heading a train from Rostock to Verona.

Toujours en région Bourgogne, on enchaine avec la BB 27012 HF M (apte aux caténaires Midi), accompagné par la BB 26121 de la même enseigne, en véhicule, en tête du classique hexafret n°489625 Gevrey triage > Sibelin composé ce jour là, uniquement de wagons citernes.
Le train est vu à la sortie du village de Comblanchien, non loin de Beaune, sous un magnifique soleil couchant.
Ce dernier clôturera ma session de spot dans dans la zone et de ce fait, s'ajoutera à mon énorme tableau de chasse.

Still in the Burgundy region, we move on to the BB 27012 HF M (suitable for Midi overhead lines), accompanied by the BB 26121 from the same company, as the leading vehicle of the classic Hexafret No. 489625 Gevrey marshalling yard > Sibelin service, which on that day consisted solely of tank wagons.
The train is seen leaving the village of Comblanchien, not far from Beaune, under a magnificent setting sun.
This will bring my spot-watching session in the area to a close and, as such, will be added to my impressive haul.

We spent this year’s vacation along the coast of lake Garda, in the north of Italy. After the pizza, pasta, and good wine, it was time to spend some hours along the rail line running nearby for dessert. And which place would be more appropriate to go to than Dolcè? Dolcè is located along the freight corridor between Innsbruck and Verona. This beautiful section of the line runs through the vineyards, along the Adige river, with a constant background of tall mountains. On the pictures below I think we can distinguish Rocca Pia with a height of 1.051m. I got served many interesting trains within a timespan of 1,5 hours. The full set of pictures here.

One last location before starting the long way home: San Michele all'Adige, just south of Mezzocorona. The rail line makes an S-turn here to cross the river Adige. The green bridge is still visible on the left of the photo.
I saw a lot of interesting trains here, of which this is the last one. I was already past the time I set myself to depart, but I think this yellow ex-Dispolok locomotive was well worth the wait. We see 189 902 and Beacon sister 189 909 haul train 43823 from Bremen to Verona.
De rivier Vaserul is de vaste begeleider van het spoortracé door het Wassertal. Hoewel de stoomwolken er imposant uitzien is de snelheid van de treinen het dal laag. Door de slechte ligging van het spoor, de hellingen, de te vervoeren ladingen en het wachten op tegentreinen, ligt de gemiddeld snelheid rond de 10 km/h. Een gemiddeld ritje door het dal duurt al snel zo’n 3,5 uur. De foto toont de trein nabij Cozia.

Sous l’étoile rouge, la vapeur dans la brume évoque l’ambiance ferroviaire de la Tchécoslovaquie communiste. Sur la ligne slovaque 170 Vrútky – Martin – Diviaky – Čremošné – Banská Bystrica, la 475.196 traverse sans arrêt la gare de Dolný Harmanec, en direction de Banská Bystrica.
Construite par Škoda en 1950, cette locomotive a assuré des services réguliers jusqu’en 1975. L’étoile rouge portée sur la porte de boîte à fumée rappelle la période socialiste de la Tchécoslovaquie et donne à cette scène photographiée en 2025 une forte atmosphère ferroviaire d’époque.

Under the red star, steam and mist briefly revive the railway atmosphere of socialist-era Czechoslovakia. On Slovak line 170, Vrútky – Martin – Diviaky – Čremošné – Banská Bystrica, 475.196 runs non-stop through Dolný Harmanec station, heading towards Banská Bystrica.
Built by Škoda in 1950, the locomotive remained in regular service until 1975. The red star carried on the smokebox door evokes the railway imagery of socialist-era Czechoslovakia and gives the scene a strongly period character although the picture was shot in 2025.

Con l'imminente arrivo dei 4 tram M8C-NF ex Heidelberg, che STA ha acquistato da RNV (Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr), l'autunno scorso dovrebbe essere stato l'ultimo per le 3 BDe 4/8 (ex Trogenerbahn, FFA, SWP, BBC, 1975/1977) in servizio sulla ferrovia del Renon. La foto mostra l'unità 23 in arrivo alla fermata di Stella / Lichtenstern lo scorso 7 novembre.

A late-running Richmond-Southwark turn is flying out of Saint-Hyacinthe with 5 EMD horses pulling a healthy 85 cars. Leading the charge is QGRY 3014 (former CN 9480), which has been assigned to the St. Lawrence and Atlantic for a few years.

Souvenir d'Août 2019 où les Corails du nord étaient encore bien présentes sur l'axe Paris > Amiens, St Quentin et Maubeuge.
Voici le passage de la BB 22237 Grise en tête de huit voitures pour Amiens depuis Paris Nord, sur le TER HdF n°2013.
L'ensemble est vu dans le connu coin de Louvres dans le Val d'Oise une quinzaine de minutes après son départ, sous un ciel mitigé.
Aujourd'hui ce sont les R2N qui gèrent toutes les relations citées depuis environs 3 ans maintenant.

Good morning!
A look back at August 2019, when the Corail du Nord trains were still a common sight on the Paris–Amiens, St Quentin and Maubeuge route.
Here is the Grey BB 22237 leading a eight-carriage train to Amiens from Paris Nord, on TER HdF service no. 2013.
The train is seen in the well-known Louvres area in the Val d’Oise, about fifteen minutes after its departure, under mixed skies.
Today, it is the R2N trains that have been operating all the aforementioned services for around three years now.

A colourful consist leads daily Brownville-Montreal freight 251 through Farnham on a gorgeous, nippy January afternoon. Since CP has taken over from CMQ, the mainline through town is no longer within yard limits, and trains can cross town at track speed. Consist : CMQ 3812, BNSF 8087, CP 8759, CP 7022.

Pour aujourd'hui, un petit retour dans le passé s'impose.
Nous sommes en hiver de l'année 2019, plus précisément dans la gare de l'Est à Paris, sous un temps maussade et compliqué pour les clichés.
Les BB 15000, reines de de ces terres, étaient déjà sur le déclin car quelques mois plus tard, elles tireront leurs révérences au profit des Régiolis de type "Coradia Liner" qui avaient déjà remplacés les CC 72000 sur la ligne4 en 2017, rendant encore plus monotone l'ambiance du lieu photographiquement parlant.
Ce fût le cas avec la 39ème de la série, partie quelques temps après cette photo alors, j'en ai bien profité pour lui tirer le portrait comme il se doit.
La voici, alors ronronnant bien fort, prête à emmener ses voyageurs pour Saint Dizier dans la Haute Marne sous le numéro 839127 de chez autrefois TER Vallée de la Marne, devenu TER Grand Est depuis peu (à l'époque de la prise de vue).
On peut apercevoir un TGV réseau s'en aller, en un trait flou, donnant encore plus de charme à cette photographie déjà belle de base.
A noter qu'il m'a fallu plusieurs tentatives avec mon 1200 d pour le réussir malgré ses évidentes faiblesses en très basse lumière mais, le résultat est là!

Today, a little trip down memory lane is in order.
It’s winter 2019, more specifically at Gare de l’Est in Paris, on a gloomy day that made for tricky photography.
The BB 15000 trains, the queens of these parts, were already on the wane, as a few months later they would bow out in favour of the ‘Coradia Liner’-type Régiolis trains, which had already replaced the CC 72000s on Line 4 in 2017, making the atmosphere of the place even more monotonous from a photographic point of view.
This was the case with the 39th in the series, which departed shortly after this photo was taken, so I made the most of the opportunity to capture it properly.
Here it is, purring loudly, ready to take its passengers to Saint-Dizier in the Haute-Marne under the number 839127, formerly part of the TER Vallée de la Marne service, which had recently become the TER Grand Est (at the time the photo was taken).
You can just make out a TGV network train heading off, a blurred streak, adding even more charm to this photograph, which was already beautiful to begin with.
It’s worth noting that it took me several attempts with my 1200D to get this shot right, despite its obvious weaknesses in very low light, but the result speaks for itself!

Direction la casse pour ces deux rames de type VR2N de TER Hauts de France après des dizaines d'années de bon et loyaux services sur les liaisons Lille > Amiens et compagnie.
C'est dans la commune de Saint Ay dans le Loiret, sur la ligne Orléans > Tours avec bien sûr du soleil, qu'est vu le convoi mené par la BB 67413 EV, accompagnée de sa petite sœur la 67522 encore en livrée Arzens, depuis le triage des Aubrais jusqu'à Saintes, le site démolition pour ce type de rames.
A noter le travail de fou que j'ai effectué sur cette photo qui, au départ, était vraiment pas folle car quasiment dans l'axe.

Good morning!
These two VR2N-type trainsets from TER Hauts-de-France are headed for the scrapyard after decades of loyal service on the Lille–Amiens route and others.
It was in the town of Saint Ay in the Loiret, on the Orléans–Tours line – with sunshine, of course – that the convoy was spotted, led by BB 67413 EV, accompanied by its little sister 67522, still in Arzens livery, travelling from the Aubrais marshalling yard to Saintes, the scrapping site for this type of train.
Note the crazy amount of work I put into this photo, which, to begin with, wasn’t great at all as it was almost perfectly straight on.

What more to expect on the last day of this successful trip? Not expecting much more, we wanted to check out what the Sidi Kacem region had to offer, before heading to the airport. This time, it was Eurorailer and his sharp eye announcing "something green" when passing the station of Sidi Mbarek Rdom. Turns out nez cassé 1302 had broken down and needed to be evacuated. We quickly found a spot just north of the station and waited. Saw some other trains, a herd of sheep crossing the tracks followed by a shepherd, before finally DF 116 showed up around the corner. That was it, we got our long-desired-for "CC72000" running on Moroccon rails.

Direction Le Creusot avec du soleil pour ces deux magnifiques stars du réseau ferré français des années 70.
En ce 22 avril des plus estivale, passage à faible allure, à la sortie de Vernou-sur-Seine (77), non loin Montereau, de la belle CC 72084, pas vraiment fraîche mais toujours aussi imposante, acheminant la rame PSE n°16 en livrée mixte, détentrice de l'ancien record du monde d'environ plus de 380 km/h en février 1981, depuis le triage de VSG jusqu'à Laroche Migennes où le convoi repartira quelques jours plus tard avec la CC 72064 de l' ARCET jusqu'à sa destination finale citée plus tôt dans la description.
A noter que pour des raisons personnelles et financières, je n'ai pas pu venir sur la deuxième partie avec l'autre 72000, mais qu'importe, l'importance c'est de l'avoir eu pas vrai donc, bravo à l'équipe!

Heading for Le Creusot in sunny weather with these two magnificent stars of the French rail network from the 1970s.
On this most summery of 22nd Aprils, a slow-speed passage just outside Vernou-sur-Seine (77), not far from Montereau, of the beautiful CC 72084, not exactly in its prime but still as imposing as ever, hauling PSE train no. 16 in mixed livery, holder of the former world record of over 380 km/h set in February 1981, from the VSG marshalling yard to Laroche Migennes, where the train would set off again a few days later with the ARCET CC 72064 to its final destination mentioned earlier in the description.
It should be noted that for personal and financial reasons, I was unable to make it for the second part with the other 72000, but never mind, the important thing is that we got it, didn’t we? So, well done to the team!

On an otherwise very quiet Boxing Day east of Montréal, CN's daily Toronto-Halifax box train rolls east through Saint-Hyacinthe station.
De VIRM-stellen 9518+8621 komen vanaf Hoofddorp Opstelterrein aangereden, onderweg naar Schiphol. De machinist was vergeten om de sluitseinen uit te doen en de frontseinen aan. Met gebaren kon ik hem / haar dat duidelijk maken.
