Meer "landschap met trein" dan "trein in landschap" maar hier mag dat wel. Dat 'hier' is langs de Rijn in Sankt Goar - gezien vanaf burcht Rheinfels - vlakbij de Loreley. Het veer achterin het beeld steekt over de Rijn naar St. Goarshausen. Personentreinen getrokken door een locomotief worden steeds meer vervangen door treinstellen maar hier rijdt IC 2012 Oberstdorf - Dortmund nog met een locomotief van de 101-serie van de Deutsche Bahn (DB).
More "landscape with train" than "train in landscape" but here it is allowed. That "here" is along the Rhine in Sankt Goar - seen from Rheinfels Castle - near the Loreley. The ferry at the background of the image crosses the Rhine to St Goarshausen. Passenger trains pulled by a locomotive are more and more being replaced by trainsets but here the IC 2012 Oberstdorf - Dortmund still runs with a Deutsche Bahn (DB) locomotive of class 101 (no. 001 - 145 built by Adtranz 1995-1999).

Wednesday March 19 2025 was a very sunny day, and I was glad that I was able to take a day off work. Some interesting traffic to and from the stone quarry of Quenast was announced. First of all, TUC RAIL with a train headed to Schaarbeek, hauled by two class 55 locomotives. These locomotives may have lived their last winter, as rumors go that they will be put out of service later this year.

Car traffic to the port of Zeebrugge has been booming in recent months. Many car trains drive to and from the port 24 hours per day, operated by almost all freight operators present on Belgian rails. On one of the few dry days we've had in weeks, I ventured out into the fields to flash some trains. Besides a Railtraxx and a Crossrail train, I got a Lineas train hauling empties towards the port.

The end of a beautiful October day in 2018. Rotterdam Rail Feeding was still active on Belgian rails with the beautiful 266 041. It's captured here right before entering Sas van Gent station, with the regular train from the Sluiskil Dow Chemical plant to the Combinant terminal in Antwerp.

I honestly don't remember why I went to spend some time waiting at Pepingen. It may have been for a rush hour train that I ended up not seeing... anyway, I ended up with some nice pictures of other passenger trains.

Eastbound traffic was coming to a halt as the sun was setting itself up for lighting westbound trains. I went to Wonck because Railtraxx was returning to Antwerp with the Linz shuttle, and Crossrail was on the way with the PTA train to Geel. It was a close race, but in the end Crossrail won, followed less than a minute later by Railtraxx. First time I saw 2 trains descending in parallel from Montzen.

NGG 16 class Bayer Garratt NGG143 awaits departure from Porthmadog with the 10:05 to Caernarfon on April 29, 2023.
The youngster on the right crept into the frame almost transfixed by the sight of the Bayer-Garratt possibly seeing one for the first time!

This is the shot I wanted to make in Slovakia. It all was perfect, until... As happens so often, the sun disappeared behind the clouds right when the train is there. It was a matter of seconds before it would be back, but of course the train wouldn't wait. 6 disappointed photographers... however, I am glad I made the photo. I'll have to return another time to get it better!

I haven't foamed in almost two months but had good vibes tonight when I heard RTC tell VIA 28 he would be meeting CN's daily Halifax-Toronto box train at Montbec. I headed out with fingers crossed for good light and caught him gliding into Sainte-Madeleine with an asset-maximizing consist.

Les marais de la zone humide de Nevojice sont juste une petite mare bienvenue le long de la voie pour refléter ce train magnifique remorqué par la puissante et moderne 242-T 464.002 tchèque. Dans cette mare, cette rainette – (grenouille verte), surnom de cette petite série de 2 locomotives « Rosnička » – est tout à fait dans son élément.

The wetlands of the Nevojice marshes amount here to little more than a welcome pool beside the line, just enough to catch the reflection of this magnificent train, hauled by the powerful and remarkably modern Czech 242-T 464.002.
In this modest stretch of water, the tree frog — the affectionate nickname given to this small class of just two locomotives, “Rosnička” — is very much in its natural element.

January 6th 2017 was a cold day, very cold. So cold that the slower flowing parts of the Rhine river froze over. With a thick jacket and good shoes, this created some new vantage points, like here, standing between the 2 shores.
