FR – 2 février 2023 – Budapest, Hongrie
Sous la grande verrière de Budapest-Keleti, la locomotive Taurus ÖBB 1116 043 née chez l’industriel Siemens attend 20 h 40 pour prendre le départ avec l’EuroNight EN 462/466 Kálmán Imre–Wiener Walzer.
Le train porte deux noms pour desservir deux destinations, mais ne forme encore qu’une seule rame jusqu’à Salzbourg. Là, au milieu de la nuit, la partition ferroviaire se divise : les voitures du Kálmán Imre poursuivent vers Munich et Stuttgart, tandis que la tranche Wiener Walzer gagne Zürich par Innsbruck et la ligne de l’Arlberg.
Le premier nom rend hommage à Imre Kálmán, compositeur hongrois et grande figure de l’opérette viennoise, dont la musique associait rythmes magyars et valses autrichiennes. Le second signifie justement « Valse viennoise ». Une association culturellement bien orchestrée même si, à Salzbourg, les deux formations finissent par jouer chacune de leur côté.
Le tout est joué sous la magnifique verrière de la gare Keleti datant de 1884, qui serait un lieu approprié pour un orchestre de valse. Quant à la cheffe d’orchestre, la diva ÖBB Taurus, elle est particulièrement « branchée » puisqu’elle joue sur deux courants musicaux à des fréquences différentes pour ravir tous les publics d’Europe Centrale.

Beneath the great glazed train shed at Budapest-Keleti, ÖBB Taurus 1116 043 (born Siemens) stands ready for its scheduled 20.40 departure at the head of EuroNight EN 462/466 Kálmán Imre–Wiener Walzer.
The train carries two names for two destinations, yet it still runs as a single formation as far as Salzburg. There, in the middle of the night, the railway score divides: the Stuttgart portion of the Kálmán Imre continues via Munich, while the Wiener Walzer coaches head for Zürich via Innsbruck and the Arlberg route.
The first name commemorates Imre Kálmán, the Hungarian composer and leading figure of Viennese operetta whose music combined Magyar rhythms with Austrian waltzes. The second literally means “Viennese Waltz”. A culturally well-matched programme, even if, at Salzburg, the two ensembles eventually perform separately.
The whole performance is staged beneath Keleti’s magnificent glazed train shed, dating from the station’s opening in 1884 and providing a suitably grand setting for a waltz orchestra. As for the conductor, the ÖBB Taurus is decidedly switched on: she can perform under two AC systems, 15 kV at 16.7 Hz and 25 kV at 50 Hz, enough to entertain audiences throughout Central Europe.

Stoomloc E2 1040 van de Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (ZLSM - Miljoenenlijn) zal in 2023 nog maar sporadisch worden ingezet en aan het einde van het jaar buiten dienst gaan. De locomotief - oorspronkelijk gebouwd door Nydgvist & Holm in 1910 voor de Zweedse Staatsspoorwegen - werd daarom ingezet voor een speciale fotorit tussen Schin op Geul en Simpelveld. Kort na zonsondergang nadert de goederentrein de Zwartebrugweg in Eys.
Steam locomotive E2 1040 of Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (ZLSM - Miljoenenlijn) will be out of service at the end of 2023. The locomotive was built in 1910 by Nydgvist & Holm for the Swedish State Railways and acquired by the ZLSM in 1998. A special charter headed by E2 1040 is spotted near Eys just after sunset.

L'unità 356 appartenente al gruppo di locomotive Elettriche (e) omologate per raggiungere una velocità massima superiore ai 110 km/k (R) 430 di proprietà di Ferrovie Federali Svizzere S.A. - Divisione Cargo è qui ripresa a Faulensee (CH, Canton Berna - Regione dell'Oberland) mentre effettua un treno merci proveniente dallo stabilimento Rigips A.G. di Leissigen (CH, Canton Berna - Regione dell'Oberland)
Meer "landschap met trein" dan "trein in landschap" maar hier mag dat wel. Dat 'hier' is langs de Rijn in Sankt Goar - gezien vanaf burcht Rheinfels - vlakbij de Loreley. Het veer achterin het beeld steekt over de Rijn naar St. Goarshausen. Personentreinen getrokken door een locomotief worden steeds meer vervangen door treinstellen maar hier rijdt IC 2012 Oberstdorf - Dortmund nog met een locomotief van de 101-serie van de Deutsche Bahn (DB).
More "landscape with train" than "train in landscape" but here it is allowed. That "here" is along the Rhine in Sankt Goar - seen from Rheinfels Castle - near the Loreley. The ferry at the background of the image crosses the Rhine to St Goarshausen. Passenger trains pulled by a locomotive are more and more being replaced by trainsets but here the IC 2012 Oberstdorf - Dortmund still runs with a Deutsche Bahn (DB) locomotive of class 101 (no. 001 - 145 built by Adtranz 1995-1999).

FR - 25 avril 2026, 09h06 – Nevojice, Tchéquie
Les marais de la zone humide de Nevojice sont juste une petite mare bienvenue le long de la voie pour refléter ce train magnifique remorqué par la puissante et moderne 242-T 464.002 tchèque. Dans cette mare, cette rainette – (grenouille verte), surnom de cette petite série de 2 locomotives « Rosnička » – est tout à fait dans son élément.

EN - 25 April 2026, 09:06 – Nevojice, Czechia
The wetlands of the Nevojice marshes amount here to little more than a welcome pool beside the line, just enough to catch the reflection of this magnificent train, hauled by the powerful and remarkably modern Czech 242-T 464.002.
In this modest stretch of water, the tree frog — the affectionate nickname given to this small class of just two locomotives, “Rosnička” — is very much in its natural element.

Our association had today its general assembly. This took place in St. Gallen.
So what would be fit best to travel there? - Our personal train with our Ae 6/6 and one coach for the members.
The second carriage was coming along to be delivered to St. Margerethen to give some additional load to the returning steam engine C 5/6 from Meiningen.
Het zuidelijk deel van de Trans-Iraanse Spoorlijn - dat de hoofdstad Teheran met de Perzische Golf verbindt - kent aanmerkelijk meer treinverkeer dan het noordelijk deel van de spoorlijn van Teheran naar de Kaspische Zee. Niet dat het hier dan direct om meerdere treinen per uur gaat, maar het enkelspoor en de over grote afstand van elkaar gelegen kruisingsplaatsen maakt het dat de lijn regelmatig aan zijn capaciteit zit; op iedere kruisingsplaats komen treinen elkaar dan tegen.
Eén van de kruisingsplaatsen is het station van Keshvar; 396 treinkilometers van de Perzische Golf en 541 treinkilometers van Teheran. De foto toont een goederentrein richting Teheran, dat met een zeer gematigd gangentje het station binnenrijdt om hier te gaan kruisen met een tegentrein. Op de achtergrond kijken de plaatselijke bewoners toe. Achter het duo diesellocs hangen achtereenvolgens drie graanwagens, een set van zes fraaie gesloten goederenwagens, gevolgd door weer een serie graanwagens.
Verder vallen - net als elders langs de lijn - de telegraafdraden op. Ten tijde van het maken van de foto - in 2018 - had ieder station nog zelfstandig een eigen seinpost en vond de communicatie tussen de stations nog via de telegraafdraden plaats. Modernisering door middel van aansturing via een groter verkeersleidingcentrum was op dat moment in voorbereiding, hoewel dat hier ook niet alles zegt.

The end of operations of BB67400 locomotives in Belgium has been announced several times already. On June 7, 2017, message about the last train reached me just in time to get a photo near home.
Time thought us that this was far from the end, fortunately. To my knowledge it was the last service of these locomotives between Ghent and France, though.
The locomotives then were the same pair that was in use for the Somain - Quenast trains this year. Fingers crossed for more extensions.

Bien le bonjour/bonsoir!
Retour en fin juillet 2018, dans un coin qui n'existe plus aujourd'hui ainsi que la locomotive en question..
C'était alors dans les champs de Monnerville, sous un ciel bien voilé, qu'était aperçue, à pleine balle la BB 26166 Béton et sa rame Corail V200 ex TEOZ, filant vers Brive la Gaillarde depuis Paris Austerlitz, sur l'IC n°3655 avec environ 20 minutes de retard qu'il essayait de rattraper.
Aujourd'hui, cette 26000 fût radiée des effectifs en novembre 2019 et le coin grillagée en 2023, mettent fin à près d'un demi siècle de prise de vues dès plus variées avec toutes les compositions passées sur cette ligne, réduisant au passage, le champs des possibilités.
A noter le cadrage un peu raté car, à l'époque, je n'était pas aussi doué qu'aujourd'hui, mais bon, cela rend bien quand même, pour moi :)

Good morning/evening!
Back in late July 2018, in a spot that no longer exists today, just like the locomotive in question...
It was in the fields of Monnerville, under a rather overcast sky, that the BB 26166 ‘Béton’ was spotted, full steam ahead, pulling its Corail V200 ex-TEOZ train, speeding towards Brive-la-Gaillarde from Paris Austerlitz on IC No. 3655, running about 20 minutes late and trying to make up the lost time.
Today, this 26000 series locomotive was withdrawn from service in November 2019 and the area fenced off in 2023, bringing to an end nearly half a century of a wide variety of photography featuring all the trains that used to run on this line, thereby reducing the scope of possibilities.
Note the slightly off-centre framing because, back then, I wasn’t as skilled as I am today, but hey, it still looks good to me :)

Sous un cerisier en fleurs quelque part dans la campagne tchèque, la 555.129 déchire le calme d’un lumineux matin de printemps avec un lourd train de marchandises.
Construite par Škoda à Plzeň en 1942 pour les chemins de fer allemands sous le type DRG 50, la locomotive appartient aujourd’hui au parc historique tchèque. Malgré son allure de machine soviétique, renforcée ici par l’étoile rouge, son histoire est en réalité bien plus complexe, à l’image des bouleversements de l’Europe centrale au XXe siècle.
L’espace d’un instant, les fumées noires, la vapeur blanche et les fleurs printanières semblent appartenir au même monde.

Black Spring
Spring blossom and war-born steel meet in the Bohemian countryside as 555.129 storms past beneath a flowering cherry tree, her exhaust rolling skywards in towering black and white clouds.
The locomotive may now wear a red star, but she was in fact built by Škoda in occupied Czechoslovakia in 1942 as one of Germany’s austere Class 50 Kriegsloks, a reminder that Central European steam locomotives often carried far more complicated identities than appearances might suggest.

FR – 26 octobre 2025 – Harmanec Jaskyňa, Slovaquie
Près de Harmanec jaskyňa, un train spécial vapeur sort du court tunnel de Tufenský, long de 50 mètres, juste après le tunnel de faîte de Čremošné, le plus long tunnel ferroviaire de Slovaquie (4697 m). Après avoir franchi plus tôt le point culminant de la ligne à la gare de Čremošné, le train entame maintenant la descente, libérant un spectaculaire panache de vapeur dans la forêt automnale.
La locomotive est la 475.196 préservée, de la série tchécoslovaque (ČSD) 475.1, surnommée « Šlechtična ».
C’était un train-photo spécial au départ de Vrútky, organisé par des passionnés avec le soutien du personnel des chemins de fer slovaques. Au cours de la journée, il a parcouru un itinéraire circulaire à travers la Slovaquie centrale, reliant Vrútky, Diviaky, Čremošné, Banská Bystrica, Zvolen, Hronská Dúbrava, Kremnica, Horná Štubňa et Vrútky, en empruntant deux des plus belles lignes de montagne du pays.

EN – 26 October 2025 – Harmanec Jaskyňa, Slovakia
Near Harmanec jaskyňa, a steam-hauled charter train emerges from the short 50-metre Tufenský Tunnel, just beyond the Čremošné summit tunnel, the longest railway tunnel in Slovakia (4697 m). Having crossed the highest point of the line earlier at Čremošné station, the train is now starting its descent, releasing a dramatic burst of steam into the autumn forest.
The locomotive is the preserved 475.196, of the ČSD 475.1 class nicknamed “Šlechtična” – Built by Škoda, Plzeň, in 1950.
The train was running as a special photo charter from Vrútky, organized by railway enthusiasts with the support of Slovak railway staff. Over the course of the day, it completed a circular journey through central Slovakia, linking Vrútky, Diviaky, Čremošné, Banská Bystrica, Zvolen, Hronská Dúbrava, Kremnica, Horná Štubňa and Vrútky, crossing two of the country’s most scenic mountain lines.
With rock, forest and steam converging at the tunnel mouth, this moment captures both the power of the locomotive and the rugged character of the landscape it travels through.

There was still a big blue opening between the clouds so I tempted for another sunny shot near Sevenum. LTE was right on time with its special liveried Vectron, which blends in quite well with the surrounding colors.

Sometimes you need to take a risk to get the shot you want. This is a viewpoint from the side of the road, but standing in a normal position there's a cable hanging in the view... so lying down on the road was the only option to make this image. Only shortly before the train was at the right spot though, our ears the most concentrated of our senses.

De nieuwe stationshal van Arnhem werd in november 2015 geopend en sindsdien kreeg het de Betonprijs 2015 in de categorie Utiliteitsbouw en de eretitel 'Dak van het jaar 2015'. Dit laatste ondanks de maar moeilijk op te sporen lekkages na een regenbui. Mijns inziens is het ontwerp geschikter voor een museum van moderne kunsten en ging de ambitie van de architect boven het belang van de reiziger met alle vloerhoogteverschillen en slinkse traptreden in deze stationshal. Fotogeniek is het moderne gebouw echter zeker en hier een blik op een gedeelte van het plafond.

Retour à la fin du mois Mars de l'année dernière, sur le PO pour profiter du beau temps et de la circulation.
Passage à Marolles en Hurepoix de la BB 7218 EV en tête d'une petite rame Corail de 5 voitures pour Orléans depuis Paris Austerlitz, sur le TER n°860589, sous un soleil printanier.
Le dernier bastion de Corails TER en IDF, plus particulièrement, avec du nez cassé, disparaitra d'ici 2027 donc, faut en profiter un maximum.

Good evening!
Back at the end of March last year, on the PO to enjoy the good weather and traffic.
Passage through Marolles en Hurepoix of BB 7218 EV at the head of a small 5-car Corail train to Orléans from Paris Austerlitz, on TER no. 860589, under a spring sun.
The last bastion of Corail TER trains in the Paris region, more specifically, with its broken nose locomotive, will disappear by 2027, so we must make the most of it.

In the previous post, I promised it would be better. While driving down the mountain, temperature increased and the snow disappeared quickly. We noticed the BLS train we photographed before, riding slowly and coming to a halt. That meant we had a chance to get a better picture of this train. We chose a famous location, but one I hadn't been to before. And yes, after the passenger train we only had to wait a couple of minutes to see the BLS train slowly come around the corner.
It looks warm in the photo, but trust me: we were still freezing.

I had never made photos in Eichberg with the sun out. I didn't have to wait long before catching a really cool eastbound freight. 2 1144's are hauling a colorfull set of Innofreight containers towards Retz, close to the Czech border. Probably for loading at the Maresch wood facility.
