This picture looks harder than it is because the word was soo long. I had to do it a couple times. By the 6th time, I was able to write the words faster and nicer.

Even when visiting the prairie you can forget the colors of the prairie. There seems a bright yellow and dull brown, a dusty and muted pall draped over the landscape.
The grasses are green. The grasses are brown. And your eyes can only notice the reds and blues at glances, if at all.
Apart from dawn and dusk, the sky shifts endlessly from white to blue to white while clouds build across the parching afternoon.
In summer there are few flowers, but even those come missing more often than not.
The colors in this photo are at once surreal and hyperreal. They exist in that uncertain light between the lens and the film.
The colors on the prairie are few, but giving into it feels more colorful; allowing yourself over to the prairie, scrambling with life, overcome with place and being, there exists an endless color spectrum of light.
This is how the prairie can feel.
I will often say something like "I try to make my color photos express how a place felt rather than how it looked," and that is what is happening here - though I cannot imagine it so for everyone.
Most see these nearly-desert places as empty, featureless, and ultimately colorless: the beauty is show through black & white, if at all. But here, in this photo (and with any luck in most of the prairie photos), our notions and expectations are merely the foundations for possibilities. Even this is little more than a starting place.
This photo shows nothing that wasn't already there. It invents nothing. It imagines nothing. It rearranges no design. What it does (I hope) is simply show you what is possible.

It's that time of year in metro Atlanta when everything turns yellow. Much pollen from such trees as elm and beech is not visible, but pollen from the omnipresent loblolly pines certainly is. I took this shot last Monday, when the season began with this light dusting.

As some of you know. I have been without a camera for some time now... each time I would think I was going to choose that next baby. A financial obstacle would always get in the way.
Awhile ago... a fellow Flickr friend made an incredibly generous offer to give me his old camera to use. Free of charge, no strings attached... at the time, I had politely declined. The offer alone was enough to bring a tear to my eyes.
"You are a sweetie Brent"
I eventually decided to take him up on this wonderful offer... the camera arrived this past weekend. (and) I have a series of shots I did Sunday that I will post this week.
But first, I wanted to start my new Flickr life with a few photos featuring the camera itself... some of you may recognize it. Please check out his photostream. Brent and the rest of the gang in Winnipeg are quite special people.

As for my financial situation... things are much smoother now and I even have a camera I've been thinking about. But, right now, more than anything, I want to thank Brent for making it possible for me to get an early start on this.

Without hesitation, I decided to join this excursion tour at the port of Skagway during my Alaska cruise, when I saw its title “Skagway in Focus - Guided Photography Adventure”, hoping to explore some of the strategic photographic “adventure” spots which otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to visit on my own within the few hours’ stay at the stop-over port. I wasn’t disappointed:-)

Your thoughts?? Yesterday one of my Flickr friends raises an interesting question whether or not I should have moved the blue recycle bin out of my shooting scene (see image below). It was an intentional decision on my part to leave the blue recycle bin in the photo. My reason’s included 1) I liked the blue yellow colour match, 2) that triangle created by the bin-bikes-yellow building provided a leading line to the colourful building and 3) it was garbage day and in my street photography, I strive to present things as they really were.
For interest, and as a good Photoshop learning exercise, I tried to remove the bin from the image and see how it looked. It was a very challenging exercise and clearly I have to work on my PS skills more. However, I am curious as to your thoughts on whether the image is better with or without the blue bin and why. Thanks.

A classic fish-eating raptor, which invariably is associated with water, and one that needs you to bend down and pick up your lower jaw !!!!! when spotted, a real Beauty!

So, lets put our minds to it... yes flowers talk to me and I hear them with my eyes, LOL
How this series came about: in the shop, the flower stall, in one of the buckets, on the bottom, one pack of Tulips, no water.... all bent!
I immediately saw the potential.
Many images passed my minds eye.
I had to keep them cool, so they kept their shape, super enjoyed photographing them, making the images come true!
Nicely SYNCHRONIZED!!!
Once in water....
They straightened, the fun was over, now I have the photo's as sweet memories, to share with you.
