There are quite a large number of feral rabbits on the west side of Sidney. People love feeding them, even though it is against the law and comes with a stiff $2000 fine.
A year ago, I walked over to one of their favourite spots after a heavy snow to have some fun.

My neighbor, without realizing, has the most wonderful array of flowers that attract butterflies. exico, Central America, West Indies, and parts of South America). Today this lovely Gulf Fritillary was feasting there. The underside of the wings are brownish/orange with elongated silvery white spots. Adults are migrating southward to frost-free portions of their range (Southern U.S. south through MI’ll post a pic of the upper wings later.

The red-crested cardinal is a songbird, the species belonging to the family of tanagers (Thraupidae). Notwithstanding its similar name, this bird is not closely related to the true cardinal family (Cardinalidae).
It is sometimes known as the Argentine cardinal.

The Powder River is a tributary of the Snake River, approximately 153 miles (246 km) long,[2] in northeast Oregon in the United States. It drains an area of the Columbia Plateau on the eastern side of the Blue Mountains. It flows almost entirely within Baker County but downstream of the city of North Powder forms part of the border between Baker County and Union County. The name Powder River is first recorded in the journals of Peter Skene Ogden without notation of the origin of the name. Explorer Donald Mackenzie likely named the river. William C. McKay, grandson of John Jacob Astor's partner Alexander MacKay, says that the origin of the name is from the powdery and sandy soil along the shores of the river, from the Chinook Jargon polalle illahe. It appears on Lewis and Clark's maps as Port-pel-lah.[4]

Hoodoos take millions of years to form and stand 5 to 7 metres tall. Each hoodoo is a sandstone pillar resting on a thick base of shale that is capped by a large stone. Hoodoos are very fragile and can erode completely if their capstone is dislodged (in other words, no climbing allowed). The protected Hoodoos site is a guaranteed spot to see Hoodoos but smaller versions of these sandstone giants can be found all over the Badlands.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 17th of June is “the shape of water”, where I am permitted to photograph water in the form of a gas (steam), a solid (ice or snow) or liquid. This is a very challenging theme. Although it is winter where I live, it doesn’t snow here, so that leaves gas or liquid. I have opted for liquid. I have wanted to play with water and food dye and photograph it for a while. So, on a sunny day, I pulled out a crystal wine glass, filled it with water and added some red food dye! Voilà! It’s amazing how something that looks so effortless can sometimes take a great deal of work! The idea was great - the execution not so easy. I had to be quick, so within two shots after dropping a few drops of colouring into the glass, the whole glass was coloured. I think I did about ten or twelve glasses of water and this is the one I liked the most. I hope that you like my choice for the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.
