La revolución del 16 de julio de 1809 en La Paz sin duda un acontecimiento capital dentro de la gesta emancipatoria
hispanoamericana. La temeraria audacia de sus Jefes y sobre todo las atroces medidas de represión adoptadas
por Goyeneche repercutieron en el continente provocando reacciones en todas partes y contribuyendo a precipitar el torrente revolucionarioque pocos meses después se hizo ya
incontenible.
De la Universidad de Chuquisaca salieron la inspiración y los hombres que encabezaron esa revolución. En el presente artículo trataremos de sintetizar los aspectos más salientes de
la intervención que la Universidad de Charcas y sus doctores tuvieron en el movimiento. Desde luego, los más importantes
protagonistas de la revolución del 16 de julio fueron graduados en la Universidad de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca.
. De los miembros de la Junta Tuitiva organizada inmediatamente después del movimiento, que eran
diez, casi todos egresaron de aquélla. En efecto, Juan Basilio, Catacora que inició sus estudios en el Cuzco los concluyó en Chuquisaca, donde se graduó de abogado; Melchor León
de la Barra, que era párroco, estudio en Chuquisaca y obtuvo el grado de doctor en teología, y luego en 1798, el título de abogado ante la Real Audiencia; Juan Bautista Sagárnaga,
vivió en Chuquisaca desde su infancia y después de realizar brillantes estudios se graduó como abogado en 1790; Juan de la Cruz Monje y Ortega, llegó también muy niño a Chuquisaca y estudió en la Universidad Hasta vestir la toga de abogado; José Antonio Medina, que fue considerado el oráculo de la revolución paceña, era tucumano, primo de Bernardo Monteagudo, el gran líder de la revolución del 25
de mayo de 1809, y en Chuquisaca fue graduado y dictó cátedra en la Universidad; Juan Manuel Mercado, era chuquisaqueño y graduado en la Universidad, hermano del doctor Mariano Michel.

Happisburgh Lighthouse, Norfolk, UK
I didn't feel I could visit Happisburgh without taking a shot of the Lighthouse....esp. as the car park is so close to it. I gather that sometimes there is Rapeseed in the field and even if not you can get the tractor trails in the crop fields. Alas in February it's a pretty landscape and the best I could do for a leading line was the strip of worn path to the right of the frame. The clouds that would lead to some pretty spectacular skies were just starting to form and catch the blue hour light. I took the 'normal '3 bracketed images for the main scene but then had to take another three for the light itself and hand blended them.
Windmills and lighthouses are some of my favourite subjects to shoot....particularly in blue hour when you get the natural light but the beam is still shining.
This isn't what I would call a 'keeper' by a long way but I decided to post it anyway as I might never get to shoot it again.
Happisburgh Lighthouse is the oldest working light in East Anglia, and the only independently run lighthouse in Great Britain.
Built in 1790, originally one of a pair – the tower is 85ft tall and the lantern is 134ft above sea level. The ‘low light’ which was discontinued in 1883 was 20ft lower and the pair formed leading lights marking safe passage around the southern end of the treacherous Haisborough Sands.
Today the lighthouse is painted white with three red bands, and has a light characteristic of Fl (3) W 30s (3 white flashes, repeated every 30secs) with a range of 18 miles.
Saved as a working light by the local community, it is maintained and operated entirely by voluntary contributions. Ref. happisburgh.org.uk/lighthouse/

Only a few more days until Christmas, and my break started yesterday?! I dread going back to classes, and I have four weeks off.
I could SCREAM.
As many of you may know, I live in Maryland. We are known for our Chesapeake Blue Crab Cakes. I was born and raised to catch these, and go home to clean them up to make crab cakes the next day.
It is amazing how much of a drastic change my photographing ability has become over a year, and I am excited to see what the future holds in my photography career.

Yesterday I posted to Substack a bit of writing (and audio) about why we embrace the imperfections of film photography.
Few things exemplify that as much as expired film developed in ECN-2. Here, there's color shifts and probably some odd development quirks. There are white specks all over it as well, though I don't remember why.
I shot this in 2021 and developed it that autumn. I don't know why it took me this long to share it. Probably because of the specks and shifts.
These imperfections, well, looks like I haven't quite embraced them. But it's still kind of a cool photo. And a wonderful place.

You cannot visit Brugge, and return without a photo with or of a SWAN. Why Swans in Brugge?
THE LEGEND:
At the end of the 15th century, the oppressed people of Bruges rose in revolt against the unpopular Emperor Maximilian of Austria.
They captured Maximilian and imprisoned him in the Craenenburg House on the Market Square, together with his equally unpopular adviser, Pieter Lanckhals.
Lanckhals was condemned to death and Maximilian was forced to watch the execution.
The Emperor eventually escaped and later took his revenge: he decreed that ‘until the end of time’ the city should be required at its own expense to keep swans on all its lakes and canals.
And why swans? Because swans have long necks – and the Flemish for ‘long neck’ is ‘lange hals’ – or ‘lanckhals’!
And so a city legend was born…
Reality? More likely…
The first swans in Bruges go back to the Middle Ages.
In the early 15th century, Bruges bought the right to keep swans from the Count of Flanders.
At that time swans were a symbol of distinction.
The killing or stealing swans was forbidden.
Swans were first mentioned in the city accounts in 1403.
At that time the swans tended to stay on the vests around the city because the canals were the water highways of the city and too busy for the swans.
A Mute Swan (Cygnus olor), sleeping with one eye open.
The mute swan is commonly associated with romance because of its stark white beauty, graceful swimming and the fact that it mates for life.
Yet there are many things most people don’t know about this swan, including that it is not native to North America and it can be one of the most aggressive waterfowl.
I chose this strong graphic composition, because I wanted something different. Hope you like it too.

The name "without" is because originally the church stood outside the city walls.
There had been a Saxon church on the site in the 11th century but by 1090 it had been replaced by a Norman one. In 1394 it was rebuilt in the perpendicular gothic style during the reign of Richard II. The stone tower was added in 1682.
The church has been badly damaged by fire on three occasions: In 1545, in 1897 and during an air raid of the Blitz of the Second World War . German bombs completely gutted the church but it was restored using the plans of the reconstruction of 1545. It is also one of the very few medieval churches left in London having survived the Great Fire of London in 1666.
