Monument to Bishop Wakering †1425. Presbytery, south. Commissioned by Bishop Wakering. Tomb slab, now without brass or brass railings. Stone mourning figures (seven original) south ambulatory.

The site for the monument was close to that of the founder in the centre of the chancel. Originally a chantry little remains, except the paired mourning figures in niches between large quatrefoils framing now blank armorial shields. The strangely stocky figures are close, as Jonathan Finch noted, to those on the font at St Bartholomew, Slolely from the middle of the fifteenth century. They were restored in the nineteenth century, when the most easterly holding mitre, book and crozier was added. The attributes of the others are also now a product of that restoration.

Bishop Wakering had a distinguished career as royal administrator, beginning in 1399 when Henry Bolingbroke appointed him chancellor of the of the county palatine on his accession as Henry IV. He continued in service under Henry V, unlike many of his contemporaries and was consecrated Bishop of Norwich in 1416. The account of his will in R. G. Davies, ‘Wakering, John (d. 1425)’, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, accessed 10 Nov 2015 reads: ‘His will carefully remembered his earlier benefices, his family, and his servants. He had a collection of his own sermons to bequeath. There is, however, more than this to Wakering's final thoughts. Throughout the will there is persistent attention to paupers, not so much for those at his own funeral (for whom he left just 20 marks), but notably in his own properties, past benefices, and especially those in hospitals and across his diocese, these last being left no less than 1000 marks. Furthermore, the bishop recalled the celebrated aphorism of St Augustine of Hippo that funerals were more a solace for the living than help to the dead, and asked for unpompous rites on the day of his death, but 1000 masses on that same day if possible.’

My don’t leave home without it is a Camera.

It could be my trusty Canon, or this newest Sony which I don’t use enough.

And even if I don’t have one of these I always have my i-phone that takes some great photos surprisingly.

You never know when a Photo op will come up.

Usually when someone asks me to do a wedding i will turn them down without hesitation. I have been to plenty of weddings and watched other photographers run all over the place trying to get the shot. About a month ago one of my oldest friends asked me if i would shoot his wedding. If it had been anyone else i would of said no but i agreed not even knowing what to expect. Since my friend didn't have much money i agreed to do the wedding for free all i asked is he rent me a couple of lenses. turns out he didn't even have the money to do that so i had no choice but to shoot with my horrible glass. It was a late wedding starting at 4:00. I knew i was going to be fighting against time and the sunset so we agreed to take the pictures before the wedding. I knew i was not going to have good enough glass to shoot this wedding and with only two flashes i was scared i wouldn't be able to light it as well. Lucky a flickr friend billy m let me borrow his sb-600 for the day so i could at least have a fighting chance. I really didn't get to enjoy my friends wedding since it felt like i was working. I have all the respect for wedding photogs it's a extremely tough gig. Trying to get the perfect shot and not miss anything since there are no redos. I feel like i didn't get all the shots i wanted to it felt rushed and i just ran out of time. I only had an hour with the brides maids, grooms men and wedding couple before the wedding so my time was very limited. I hope i did a good enough job shooting my first wedding and my friends will enjoy the shots.

John's mk2 Jetta project car that started out being used as a dumpster behind a building before he got his hands on it. He swapped the interior, fixed the body himself, had a hand from a friend re-spraying it, then installed a handful of awesome parts and is now in the midst of an ABA swap with a Neuspeed supercharger (which he's hoping to finish by H2oi).

Travel Europe without visas GENEVA SWITZERLAND The fountain JET-D'O was wet under it

Geneva "Capital of the World"

The embankment in Geneva is unusually beautiful, we arrived in the evening. And one of the popular adornments of the city of Geneva on Lake Leman is the Jet d'Eau fountain, which is 140 meters high. A powerful stream of clear lake water - we could not stay away. Feelings of freshness and some kind of childish joy, because drops from the fountain fly very small and with great speed, the body does not have time to get very wet. The effect of a mega air freshener. This miracle is worth a try once in a lifetime. Lake Geneva has not only sheltered local yachts and motor ships for tourists, swans and ducks feel great here. And visitors for them are a common thing.

For one evening in the Capital of the World we are accustomed to clean streets, brilliant trams and expensive cars. Only prices in local restaurants, cafes and shops are not used.

Without doubt, one of my favourite times of the year is Autumn. And when the sun shines brilliantly, as it did on Monday (4th Nov. 2013), then some of the colours you can witness are sensational. I just hope my little camera does them justice.

This is the view of some of those amazing colours looking from Dunstable Downs out towards Totternhoe and with a Paraglider!

Red Panda ... baby

Ailurus fulgens

Whether the red panda is more closely related to the giant panda or the raccoon has puzzled scientists for years. Made for a life in the trees, the red panda travels through the canopy with ease. Not only is the panda a great climber, it is also an amazing jumper, clearing distances up to five feet. Hair on the bottom of its feet keeps the panda from slipping on branches.

Red pandas spend up to 13 hours a day foraging for bamboo, eating only the youngest, most tender leaves.

Pandas have a small, thumb-like bone that sticks out from the wrist that helps them grasp bamboo shoots.

A thick, furry tail that wraps around its body protects the panda from the chilly weather.

I find cars with many bumper stickers interesting and try to check out as many as I can. There's often a combination of messages that is puzzling, to say the least.

Please note that I'm not encouraging comments about the political or religious content of the stickers. That could quickly get into nasty arguments and I don't need that aggravation. We live in a country where people can put this stuff on the back of their cars. Let's simply revel in that.

Finally, I've loaded larger-than-usual versions of the pictures so that you can give these works of art the detailed inspection that they deserve.

An exhibit featuring photographs and illustrations from the graphic novel THE PHOTOGRAPHER by Didier Lefevre, Emmanuel Guibert, and Frederic Lemercier, which The Boston-Globe praises as "An inspiring, beautiful book ... The Photographer should be mandatory reading for our secretary of State and president."

SHOW DATES: April 23-May 19

Mon-Friday: 10AM-6PM

Sat-Sunday: 12PM-6PM

OPENING RECEPTION: April 23 - 6PM

In 1986, photojournalist Didier Lefevre documented one of the clandestine cross-border humanitarian missions undertaken by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to assist Afghans trapped in areas hardest-hit by the Soviet invasion. Dodging Soviet aircraft and navigating treacherous terrain, Lefevre's journey nearly cost him his life. He collaborated with aclaimed illustrator Emmanuel Guibert and graphic designer Frederic Lemercier to bring this story to life in THE PHOTOGRAPHER.

This exhibit offers a taste of the book that combines the late Lefevre's dramatic images and Guibert's stunning artwork to bear witness to the hardships endured by the Afghan people throughout this conflict—and to the present day.

Mariah Carey - Touch My Body

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 or 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. In 1990, she rose to fame with the release of "Vision of Love" from her eponymous debut album. The album produced four chart-topping singles in the US and began what would become a string of commercially successful albums which solidified the singer as Columbia's highest selling act. Carey and Boyz II Men spent a record sixteen weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995–96 with "One Sweet Day," which remains the longest-running number-one song in US chart history. Following a contentious divorce from Sony Music head Tommy Mottola, Carey adopted a new image and traversed towards hip hop with the release of Butterfly (1997). In 1998, she was honored as the world's best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards and subsequently named the best-selling female artist of the millennium in 2000.

Carey parted with Columbia in 2000, and signed a record-breaking $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records America. In the weeks prior to the release of her film Glitter and its accompanying soundtrack in 2001, she suffered a physical and emotional breakdown and was hospitalized for severe exhaustion. The project was poorly received and led to a general decline in the singer's career. Carey's recording contract was bought out for $50 million by Virgin and she signed a multi-million dollar deal with Island Records the following year. After a relatively unsuccessful period, she returned to the top of music charts with The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). The album became the best-selling album in the US and the second best-seller worldwide in 2005 and produced "We Belong Together," which became her most successful single of the 2000s, and was later named "Song of the Decade" by Billboard. Carey once again ventured into film with a well-received supporting role in Precious (2009), and was awarded the "Breakthrough Performance Award" at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
