“I was born poor and without religion, under a happy sky, feeling harmony, not hostility, in nature. I began not by feeling torn, but in plenitude.”

GOING HOME – SOPHIE ZELMANI
I AM
I am born free
in a field with wild flowers in my hair
the sounds of nature first to touch my ears
the softness and warmth of the earth beneath me
first sight the bluest sky filled my eyes
and coloured them for all my life
the sun shone bright and hot that day
bathed my hair and always stayed
corn-coloured tresses and cornflower blue eyes
wild and messy with no earthly ties
my Dad delivered me you see
the only ones there were my Mum and me
small bunnies in the fields
small birds on the wing
the joy of my life
to them was everything
later I would run barefoot and free
laughing pure and clear
climbing all the trees
but then their lives both ended suddenly
and it seemed that time stood still
and everything went dark for me
and darker still when I fell ill
it's hard to understand the complexities of life
for some it's a walk in the park
for others endless grief and strife
with no flickering flame to light the dark
but all I can say about the mysteries that surround me
is that even through the darkest; wildest storms
it's still possible to find the light
it's still possible to break free
the heavy shroud I wore
too big for my young shoulders
slipped and fell and with it tore
the melancholy mantel
some days are still seeped in sad memories
but mostly I'm ok
I hope you'll better understand me
and why I disappear and hide some days
I need that time of quiet reflection
I need to reconnect
with nature and all it's miracles
that calm my mind and balm my soul
the healing nature of it's powers
that brings me back so bright and bold.

Christmas without You · TAEYEON
www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNi_nYsP65o
That first December when it unexpectedly snowed
The holidays that we spent together
That winter, we were happy with whatever we did
Our eyes held each other
All the memories with your warmth
Comes to me at the end of the cold wind
The season has come outside the window
I can’t avoid it anymore
Today, I hope the snow won’t stop all day
So it can cover my lonely footprints
Without you
The whole world is Christmas but I’m without you
Dazzling Christmas but I’m without you
After a sad day passes without being with you
I’m falling asleep alone, without you
The cold days continued and you were my only
Summer time (You’re my sun to shine)
It was so hot in your arms
I didn’t even know winter was coming
I try not to look at my lone reflection on the shop windows
I try smiling so my heart won’t shake
You might also like
The whole world is Christmas but I’m without you
Dazzling Christmas but I’m without you
After a sad day passes without being with you
I’m falling asleep alone
Da dararab Da dararab
Da dararab Da dararab
Beautiful memories, like snowflakes
Melt in my hands
It’s Christmas for everyone but I’m without you
Happy Christmas but I’m without you
The season I always walked with you (that winter)
Is still going on somewhere in this world, forever
After a long night’s dream, Without you
No no, Christmas but I’m without you
Without an atmosphere containing water vapour and dust a sunset would be just like turning off a light.
(Breathing would also be a bit of a problem).

And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 (AMP)

A very young Red Fox cub (Vulpes vulpes) dozing under our front window. Was able to quietly push open our bedroom window to get this shot without disturbing it.
Looking vertically down.
A bit mangy as well.
OK, today it won't be possible without drama.
We are still on the Brühl Terraces in Dresden and it is still that one foggy night (Incidentally, on a normal night you would see the lights from the other bank of the river Elbe from here. But instead the world seems to have ended just behind this bush.
This lantern is the reason why I even went all the way here to the farthest area of the Jungfernbastei (that is the park at the eastern end of the Brühl Terrace).
Well, not exactly that one, because I was looking for one that was a little out of the way and, above all, alone. Which ultimately led me to this one.
Because I wanted to create something minimalist that fits the title that was already in my head at the time.
I am very satisfied with the result. Nevertheless, I made a second version with a different lantern that I passed on the way back to the car.
You'll see them another time.

She can't walk anymore without the aid of a walking stick, but this gray-haired 91-year-old lady still has an amazing good memory.
For one thing, she still remembers the first name of my deceased mother whom she last met 60 years ago.
I was then just a little boy, so I can't recall an instant having seen her at our place of abode when she went there to pay to my mother her husband's rent for the use of a piece of farm lot. She started talking to me, however, after a young relative of hers mentioned my family name within her hearing distance, and this was when I paid a first visit to her son at his home today.
I was totally surprised when she asked me, "How's Ate Rosie?" ("Ate," a Pilipino word, is a common title of respect for an older sister, but is also used for other older non-relative woman.) In answer, I said that my mother has passed away already a decade ago at the age of 84 years old.

I don’t think absence of color takes anything away from the attractiveness of the capture.

After what has seemed months without a clear spell of weather it was good to get some fresh air yesterday. I decided on the A5 Pass for some panning practice for when I head to Greece again for the annual exercise next month.
A pleasant enough morning with a couple of aircraft through the valley, alas hard lessons re-learned regarding what works and doesn’t so well on the rig 🙈 The wind picked up post-noon, heading in from the East making looking where I needed to for any incoming difficult, so it was a retreat to the cafe for fly-pie & a brew. As you do.

Lone tree stood , without its clothes
Like a model, it does pose
A vision of wildness for all eyes
Who see it rising into the skies
Its bare skin shining, very bright
Kissed by rays of beautiful light
That from the skies, slowly fall
On the lone tree standing, bare and tall

You're all that I have and you're all that I need
Each and every day I pray to get to know you please
I want to be close to you, yes I'm so hungry
You're like water for my soul when it gets thirsty
Without you there's no me
You're the air that I breathe
Sometimes the world is dark and I just can't see
With these, demons surround all around to bring me down to negativity
But I believe, yes I believe, I said I believe
I'll stand on my own two feet
Won't be brought down on one knee
Fight with all of my might and get these demons to flee

Every fall, geese travel impressive 3,000 miles (4,828 km) from their nesting grounds on Wrangel Island in Russia to Skagit Valley, arriving in early October. About 12,000 birds spend the whole winter in Skagit valley and leave in early spring.

Portrait of a Cornflower.
The cornflower is considered a beneficial weed and its edible flower can be used for culinary decoration, for example to add colour to salads.
Cornflowers have been used and prized historically for their blue pigment.
Cornflowers are often used as an ingredient in some tea blends and herbal teas and is famous in the Lady Grey blend of Twinings.

Even without any knowledge of the Dutch language you can guess what "Brandweer" means. Mark how the iron capitals are beautifully crafted in a classic font, perhaps art deco style.
Excellent L&P to add to the Lines and Planes series.
It's about surprising compositions in the everyday, a special view of buildings, interiors ... lines made abstract.

This year has been really rough as hell on me, on my family, and all of us honestly.
I just hope the next year will be a lot better with minimal to no tragedies and more love.
Merry Christmas to all of you peeps out there, think of your family, cause you'll regret it once they are gone from your life forever.

I've been reading quite a bit about Nebraska lately. I discovered an author entirely new to me - Mari Sandoz - who wrote quite a bit about pioneering in Nebraska.
Another book recently suggested to me - The Sod-House Frontier by Everett Dick - is now on my growing pile of books I'll get to soon. From the looks of it, the book describes in detail nearly ever aspect of Nebraska pioneer life.
It does, however, leave out normal death almost completely. There's talk of frontier justice and murder, of coruse. But there are only two paragraphs on funerals.
I find this so strange. In the Victorian era, the rites of death were almost gleefully related. But by the 1880s all of that changed. Death moved from the home to funeral homes. Once that separation occured, death became foreign even though it is one thing we all have in common.
We all experience the death of friends and loved ones, we all grieve in many of the same ways, we all cry, we all remember those who have left us. And in the end, we all die. Yet, through so many of the books of and from this era that I've read, death and funerals and burials hardly receive a mention.
Writings about the funerals of the late 1800s and early 1900s that took place in populated areas in the East and the Pacific West are easy enough to find. They were the norm. But those taking place on the plains and prairies, within the cemeteries I photograph, are essentially non-existent. I have come across exactly zero among the journals, diaries, memoirs, and histories I've read. I'm sure there must be something out there though.
Though someone likely recorded this, their absense has left me with endless questions.
If the nearby town had no funeral director, who took care of the body? In regular houses, the funeral would be held in the front parlor (later called the "living room" for obvious reasons), what about small sod-houses or shacks? Who made the coffins and how on the plains where there were few, if any, trees? What happened to the bodies of Black pioneers who died among Whites (they were rarely allowed in the same cemeteries, though there were exceptions)?
More than anything, I just want someone to walk me through the process. I photograph the very end result of death: the gravesite well over a century after burial. I want to know everything prior to this as it happened to the pioneers.
