Ich liebe diesen kleinen Gedichteband,in dem Kästner die Schönheit, aber auch die melancholischen Seiten der jeweiligen Jahreszeit beschreibt.
Eines seiner romantischsten und idyllischsten Werke.
Ich wünsche Euch einen friedvollen 2. Advent.

Der Dezember
Das Jahr ward alt. Hat dünnes Haar.
Ist gar nicht sehr gesund.
Kennt seinen letzten Tag, das Jahr.
Kennt gar die letzte Stund.
Ist viel geschehn. Ward viel versäumt.
Ruht beides unterm Schnee.
Weiß liegt die Welt, wie hingeträumt.
Und Wehmut tut halt weh.
Noch wächst der Mond. Noch schmilzt er hin.
Nichts bleibt. Und nichts vergeht.
Ist alles Wahn. Hat alles Sinn.
Nützt nichts, dass man's versteht.
Und wieder stapft der Nikolaus
durch jeden Kindertraum.
Und wieder blüht in jedem Haus
der goldengrüne Baum.
Warst auch ein Kind. Hast selbst gefühlt,
wie hold Christbäume blühn.
Hast nun den Weihnachtsmann gespielt
und glaubst nicht mehr an ihn.
Bald trifft das Jahr der zwölfte Schlag.
Dann dröhnt das Erz und spricht:
"Das Jahr kennt seinen letzten Tag,
und du kennst deinen nicht."

This is a photo from Villa Borghese, Rome and the Temple of Asclepius built at the little lake there in the park. The temple building itself is late 18th century (built 1785-1792), but it was built as a home for some ancient sculptures. The statue of Asclepius himself is thought to have come from the Mausoleum of Augustus, and the other, smaller pieces are of Hellenistic date and style.
But there are a couple of things you can't see in this shot: 1) it was incredible hot, and even the evenings weren't all that nice. But they looked quite pretty. And 2) there was a big sign of the gate entering this area that said it was to close at 21, and I went in at a quarter past, hoping very much they wouldn't lock me in. Thankfully they didn't.

The National Monument of Victor Emmanuel II. It is also known as Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) and Il Vittoriano. It was built to honour the first king of the unified Italy. It was designed by Giuseppe Sacconi. The work was begun in 1885, inaugurated in 1911 and finished in 1935.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany and undoubtedly one of the prettiest towns on the Romantic Road.
The most photographed bit of Rothenburg is the Plönlein a fork in the road at the south end of town where Spitalgasse, the main road, is split in two by a half-timbered house and both branches run under city gates just beyond, the Siebers Tower and the Kobolzeller Gate.
I got there early in the morning and missed the crowds of tourists.

This abbey was founded in 1129 by Bernard of Clairvaux, at the site of an old oratory (which had been founded already back in 641). The place was for a long time the most important Cistercian monastery in northern France, with at times as many as 500 monks there.
The building history is of course many-layered, as is often cases with sites as this. The church was first built in the 12th century, but enlarged and Gothizied (is that a word? if not, it ought to be) in the 13th. There are of course several monastery buildings around, but the most striking ones are the two wings flanking the entrance (or what once was) to the church. One was built in 1677 and the other in 1748 (it's the younger one that can be seen here - it is still complete).
But of course the place did not survive the French Revolution - though its fate was somewhat unusual. In 1792 the place was disbanded and put on the market (the usual fate for such places was that someone bought it to quarry it for stone), but no one was interested - and it was turned into a hospital instead. In 1798 it was bought by a man who turned it into his castle (and most likely was the one that tore down the church to make it a suitable ruin for his gardens.......). The grandeur did not last. In 1823 it was turned into a cotton mill! And during the First World War it was occupied by German troops so the French bombed the place.
In 1941 a new religious order took over the place: Serviteurs de Jésus et de Marie (founded in 1930) and they are still there.

This kind of came out looking like a painting but it's not. The back ground is a painting on a wall. When I took this shot I knew I would use it somewhere. I thought about Window's Wednesday..:) But, since there aren't real windows I went with Bench Monday

It's not fog - it's bokeh, taken against the background of the setting sun - side lighting without the sun's disk visible.
If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.
The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."
