St Andrew's Church, Toddington, is a Grade I listed building and is the third church to occupy this site in Gloucestershire. Prior to the 1870s, the church was dedicated to St Leonard.

Without a couple of thick slices of toasted multigrain wholemeal bread and thick spread butter my beans on toast would be nothing!! 😊 Happy Macro Mondays.
Even without Aspens or scrub oak, this alpine valley somewhere near 12.000' of elevation shows off fall colors with the grasses in the late afternoon.
Stopped at a switchback, along the last leg of the Alpine Loop Trail coming down from Engineer Pass to Animas Forks, the serenity, crispness, and amazing color palette were breathtaking. The small ponds reflected the rich blue skies overhead, while the clouds directed the light into an interesting pattern on the ground.

For the 😄 HaPpY CrAzY Tuesday 😄 theme: "Childhood Memories", I present to you: 'Bromsnor' (however without his mustache).
He was the old-fashioned constable from a TV children's series 'Swiebertje'.
In the street where I lived, was one older single lady and only she had a tv in that time. All the children went to her place on Wednesday afternoon to watch this series. It was fun ;-))
Swiebertje is a series of Dutch children's books, written from 1936 by John Henri uit den Bogaard, and a Dutch television series based on the books, broadcast by the NCRV in the 60s and 70s.
'Swiebertje' is a "lovable vagabond". During his wanderings, he always got in trouble. 'Bromsnor' seized every opportunity to lock Swiebertje in the 'cage under the tower', without any clear form of trial. Often there was a misunderstanding in which Swiebertje was falsely accused of something, but it always ended well.
"Bromsnor" was quite grumpy, but also had a big heart in the right place. In real life he had a black mustache and absolutely no red hair and wearing two shoes, unlike this figure (artistic freedom shall we say? ;-))
However, over the years, the red moustache has disappeared...... and to my big surprise there was a sensual mouth underneath. But also the rest of the body and clothing are subject to the ravages of time.
He is sitting on the floor in an old bathroom, that will be renovated soon. What to do with Bromsnor……..?

The other day I was intending to shoot some forest on one side of the road and it turned out the opposite side was was much better. I guess the moral to this story is ..... turn around and see what is behind you.

With this photo of a wintry sunrise (without snow this time) near the town of Tisá in the Bohemian part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, I wish you all a wonderful 4th Adent with a big load of Christmas atmosphere (even without snow).
At the same time, I wholeheartedly dedicate this photo to those of You who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to experience the Christmas season with full joy.
Be it because you work in a job that requires your commitment even during the holidays (and nights) or because personal challenges demand too much attention.
Or maybe you are in a phase of life where there are only a few people around you with whom you can share these moments.
Or are you currently confronted with health challenges that you or important people in your life are struggling with.
Not to forget those of you who have to fight the consequences of poverty, hunger, war and displacement every day.
I would like to send these rays of sunshine to all of you, which should penetrate the thicket and lighten the shadows a little.
I send you my thoughts, my love and the confidence that the light always finds a way.
Mit diesem Foto von einem winterlichen Sonnenaufgang (ohne Schnee dieses Mal) in der Nähe der Stadt Tisá im böhmischen Teil des Elbsandsteingebirges, wünsche ich Euch allen einen wunderschönen 4. Adent mit einer großen Ladung weihnachtlicher Atmosphäre (auch ohne Schnee).
Gleichzeitig widme ich dieses Foto von ganzem Herzen denen unter Euch, denen es aus den unterschiedlichsten Gründen nicht möglich ist, die Weihnachtszeit mit uneingeschränkter Freude zu erleben.
Sei es, weil ihr in einem Beruf tätig seid, der Euren Einsatz auch während der Feiertage (und -nächte) verlangt oder persönliche Herausforderungen gerade zu viel Aufmerksamkeit einfordern.
Oder vielleicht seid Ihr auch in einer Lebensphase, wo es nur wenige Menschen in Eurem Umfeld gibt, mit denen Ihr diese Momente teilen könnt.
Oder seid Ihr gerade mit gesundheitlichen Herausforderungen konfrontiert, mit denen Ihr selbst oder wichtige Menschen in Eurem Leben zu kämpfen haben.
Nicht zu vergessen die unter Euch, die tagtäglich im Kampf mit den Folgen von Armut, Hunger, Krieg und Vertreibung bestehen müssen.
Euch allen möchte ich diese Sonnenstrahlen senden, die das Dickicht durchdringen und die Schatten ein wenig aufhellen sollen.
Ich sende Euch meine Gedanken, meine Liebe und die Zuversicht, dass das Licht immer einen Weg findet.

It is always good to remember that what we consider old now, back in the day was very modern. Case in point is this part of the church Saint Etienne in Perriers-sur-Andelle. The church itself is medieval, founded in the 11th century, with some architectural details added in the 14th century. But not here. Here we can quite obviously see some later works, this is not medieval (and the church did see substantial work done in the 16th and the 19th century). So at one point this was the modern, up-to-date part of the church when the rest of it was more or less dated and old-fashioned.

Hamburger Bahnhof once was a train station in Berlin, now it's a museum.
Today is supposed to be about two actually irreconcilable opposites.
There is no light without shadows and without the cold of the night, we would not appreciate the warmth of the day.
We often try to suppress the unpleasant parts of life and only concentrate on the beautiful things. And then we are surprised and sometimes shocked when the “evil twin” suddenly appears in front of us. This shock can even cause us to completely lose sight of the light and have great difficulty finding it again.
What we can do, however, is to always be aware of both sides. When I love, it is an indescribably beautiful and inspiring feeling. And at the same time it makes me more vulnerable than almost anything else in life. Where there is a lot of love, there may also be a lot of pain (everyone, who has children knows what I am talking about). Should we therefore stop loving? Of course not. We just have to make sure we always have enough love for ourselves. Then we are able to deal with the pain (even if that doesn't make it any more pleasant).
I could write a book with the thoughts that fill me on this topic. For today, however, I have to leave it with this short form.
Photographically, today I'm going to turn to light first. And few of my recent photos can convey this as well as this beautiful sunny morning on the Bastei rocks in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
Der heutige Tag soll im Zeichen von zwei eigentlich unvereinbaren Gegensätzen stehen.
Licht gibt es nicht ohne Schatten und ohne die Kälte der Nacht, würden wir die Wärme des Tages nicht zu schätzen wissen.
Oft versuchen wir die unangenehmen Bestandteile des Lebens zu verdrängen und konzentrieren uns nur auf die schönen Dinge. Und dann sind wir überrascht und teilweise erschüttert, wenn der "böse Zwilling" plötzlich vor uns steht. Dieser Schock kann dann sogar dazu führen, dass wir das Licht vollständig aus den Augen verlieren und große Schwierigkeiten haben es wieder zu finden.
Was wir jedoch tun können ist, uns immer beider Seiten bewusst zu sein. Wenn ich liebe, dann ist dies ein unbeschreiblich schönes und inspirierendes Gefühl. Und gleichzeitig macht es mich so verletzlich, wie kaum etwas anderes im Leben. Wo viel Liebe ist, liegt unter Umständen auch viel Schmerz (Jeder, der Kinder hat, weiß, wovon ich spreche). Sollten wir deshalb aufhören zu lieben ? Natürlich nicht. Wir müssen nur darauf achten immer genug Liebe für uns selbst aufzubringen. Dann sind wir auch in der Lage mit dem Schmerz umzugehen (auch wenn das diesen natürlich nicht angenehmer macht).
Mit den Gedanken, die mich zu diesem Thema erfüllen könnte ich ein Buch schreiben. Für heute muss ich es allerdings mit dieser Kurzform bewenden lassen.
Fotografisch möchte ich mich heute zuerst dem Licht zuwenden. Und nur wenige meiner Fotos der letzten Zeit können dies so gut transportieren wie dieser wunderschöne sonnige Morgen auf den Basteifelsen im Elbsandsteingebirge.

When Ken & I walked up onto the road this afternoon, there was STILL not a trace of car tracks on it! We met a neighbor walking his dog, but aside from their tracks, there were only ours! It was so cold we couldn't stay out more than 10-15 minutes- the wind is so bad! Tonight, we will be down to 8 degrees! That is not a real number for a temperature, is it? Not in the South!! Brrrrrrr!
