Using a 80mm deep octagon softbox at the camera left with Godox AD-180 full power

I just made this softbox for use on my Speedlite 430EX flash. I took a few test shots and it really seems to make a huge difference. The cost to me? $0 Cost to my parents? $1 Needless to say it's very cheap and even cheaper if someone else buys the paper.

Here's the tutorial

As you can see I didn't put any silk/cloth on the front, I just left the paper there which works too. I also didn't do the velcro, I just have a rubber-band holding it on. I might get some silk/cloth and velcro to finish it up.

Boom arm setup for my softbox with tripod, Manfrotto superclamp and monopod. (notes above)

Make an easy to build portable softbox

- cut a backing frame from a 1/2 gallon plastic milk jug

- shape the plastic to fit the rear of your flash, like a bounce card, narrow at the bottom and more flared out at the top

- line the front of the plastic with a reflective material. I used the shiny mylar material from a package of Nabisco oatmeal cookies. I attached the mylar using double-sided tape.

- tape down the edges of the mylar to the plastic using gaffers tape

- Attach the reflector to flash using rubber bands

- make a "flip down" diffuser using simple tissue paper or other diffusing material

The flash and portable softbox can be used on-camera or off-camera, One Light Strobist style.

First time that I fotograph in a studio with my best friend as model.

I could use the studio of my nephew and he teached me how to make a setup.

He thought I had to learn first a onelamp setup.

gave me a very cute outcome.

Sesión con Vicky Sanz

So, during this shoot I wanted to practice lighting in different situations within the studio setting. The yoga poses were perfect for it as it made me get down low with the lights. It was a challenge figuring out how to light a subject folded up on the floor, but I think this came out pretty nice. I ended up laying my softbox over directly on the floor just right of camera and adjusting my slave speedlight to its lowest position on the stand and aimed it down camera left for just a little bit of fill. What made it easy for me was that my model (a friend of mine) just ran through her poses so I didn't have to think up much of anything. My focus could remain on the lighting. Posing seems a bit daunting at this stage in my journey. Knowing how to pose people is a huge part of the shoot...and, one I have little experience in. But, it's the most fun I've ever had learning. Enjoy!
