I wouldn't dare eat them because I know nothing about which fungi are edible. But they smell delicious! Do you see the strand of spider silk stretching from the right-most mushroom to the large one in the center? It was quite dark when I made this photo just minutes before a thunderstorm.

Self portrait created for club competition entitled "proverbs and sayings". This is a composite of 4 images (I hope you don't really think I have an egg inside my head!).
1) Me with spoon in setting
2) Setting without me
3) Close up of egg and yolk using exactly the same lighting set-up
4) Close up of top of egg upturned using same lighting set up.
These 4 layers were then intertwined in Photoshop CS2 mainly using layer masks with a few additional bits of jiggery pokery.
I tried using my 17-55mm lens first but just couldn't get the angle I wanted so used my Sigma 10-20mm lens to achieve the results I wanted.

This then triggered SB600 low camera right also set to manual mode also in 24 inch softbox.
Our friend's dog; Tucker, will be staying with us for the next four days. Tucker is a 9 year old Beagle mix. By the look of his enthusiasm I can tell he's thrilled to stay with us.

Tried how my new 80cmx80cm softbox would do for a low key portrait. Actually, I think, should have positioned it a bit further back.

This breezy summer portrait was captured by photographer Josh K with a Fotodiox EZ-Pro 48" Octagon Softbox. The softbox helps Josh add beautifully soft, diffused light to his portraits, and he also used a grid in this shot to further focus the light.

Still playing around with my DIY flashes and learning along the way.
One thing I realised is that although umbrella diffusers are handy the damn things show up in any reflective surface. So I constructed myself a diffuser screen to act as a kind of softbox, (white cotton sheeting stapled across a large picture frame). Works pretty well.
Here I just played around with the idea of the original problem of the umbrella reflection and pinned a black cardboard cutout of an umbrella shape on the diffuser screen.
I quite like it :-)
Strobist info:
DIY Studio Flash set at full power (90W/S), opposite camera triggered by camera onboard flash set at 1/64th power.
DIY diffuser screen placed between flash and subject with a cardboard cutout of an umbrella shape pinned to screen.
Water droplets placed by hand with a syringe, (I know, maddening!), on a black instrument panel.
DOF is not expansive but at f14 it's not bad, (handy having 4/3rds!)
Take one aluninium tray. The type you use for BBQ. Cut a rectangular hole for a cardboard holder for the flash. Cover the tray with white trash bag. And Presto! A $100 softbox made for under $1. The range isn't great cause the light bounces to the top and then back down and out, but for portraits, it works a treat. You can suffer from a slight blue tinge in your photos due to the colour of the tray but you can adjust for that in Photoshop or on camera white balance.

===============================
A cool expense this week; I have now a nice Lastolite Ezybox Hot Shoe Kit 60cm x 60cm (24' x 24') softbox to use with my Nikon Flashes (SB-900 and SB-600).
I purchased it to give another dimension to some of the portraits I will be doing this winter.
The picture above was meant to be a test. When I saw its simplicity and the beautiful eyes of my daughter Val, I thought I had no choice but to publish it.

It’s weevil party season here in the sunny UK. About this time of year nettle weevils come out of hiding to mate on stinging nettles, I guess that’s where they get their name from. Occasionally there is a casualty along the way, including this female. Not to worry though there is literally squillions of them all over the place at the moment. Those shiny iridescent greeny yellowy bluey scales came off rather easily; I saw plenty of them walking around that were almost completely black.
The left foot is displaying the grip combination of micro-fine hairs for a huge surface area and increased friction, and a tiny hook at the tip.
Trying to replicate and understand the previous lighting setup with Erianna as seen here:

This photoshot was organized by a makeup artist I usually work with and Maria is her favourite model. I never had a chance to shoot her before and worried, when Ksu told me that she is inviting her favourite model to upcoming photosession.
We shot in a little studio, where Ksu usually give a makeup courses.
I used light from the window, located on the right and a flash with circular diffuser on top of my camera.
