SB900 is at the back of the box pointing into it. The orchid is in front of a tracing paper covered window in the box. A piece of black card over the tracing paper only allows light through the edges of the window. The pieces of card around the box act as reflectors to direct the light from the sides and above.

He is the maker and hes checking out the back of his creation.

Please find above my very crude very cheap attempt at a home made softbox.

 

It took me about an hour to make and cost me about 70p. I am getting a mini softbox soon but I used the home made contraption for my project 50 tonight.

We cut an SB-26 sized hole in a plastic box...

Two 1/4 CTO gels to warm up light.

Here's the finished product in action. seems to work pretty well for being just about free.

Went walking yesterday to take some macroshots with the new G10. Took the offcamshoecorded 580 with me with a 30x30cm minisoftbox which is huge for this little fella. Mr toad has seen the light :-)
