Playing around with my softbox. Found out that using the blue back drop makes it very easy to turn the background black using channel mixer in monochome, and dropping the blues out, then bring the colours back to the subject with a vector mask
To all the Little Sisters out there, You Rule! I am lucky enough to have 2 of them. This is my youngest little sister, Jenna. I keep trying to explain to my son that Little Sisters Rule. I think he will agree... one day.

See it large here.
This is a very shiny and reflective shell which I placed on a mirror to photograph. It was a little difficult to photograph because the light shape from the soft boxes shows on the shell, and I'm not sure how to get around that.
I lit it with a YN560-iII in a 24 inch softbox at camera left and a YN560-II in an 8.6 inch Lastolite softbox at camera right, both pointed toward the center of the shell. The strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
I find sea shells to be beautiful objects from nature, and have photographed quite a few of them over the years. Other shells that I have photographed are in my creatively named Shells album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157626043932290

Trying out the Joel Grimes effect. Well....not so Joel grimes, but I'm learing.

I've restricted myself to one light without any other modifiers than my new softbox. Tomorrow I think I might add areflector and maybe another strobe :) Taken in indoor daylight conditions with the softbox positioned in a way to not cast any light on the background
The fork was illuminated with a 60x60 cm softbox almost directly from above. Just above the fork, 2 diffusers were used to 'soften' the light and create a uniform illumination.
The fork itself was on a white acrylic glass plate. To create the cutout photo, the fork was exposed with an unleashed system flash from below through the acrylic glass plate.

I wrote a little review of my new lens for my blog (www.fotopraxis.net) and needed a shot for the headline ...
As you might have guessed, I did two shots, one for the lens, one for the chives and combined these shots in Photoshop.

Here's the mkII version of my pizza soft box.
This one is made from black thermoplastic sheet bought from Paperchase (UK) which makes it much more durable and slightly more attractive than the mkI pissabox version. It's stuck together using black gaffer tape with the same tracing paper used the mkI version. This one doesn't have any tin foil lining yet as you can see in the image, a lot of the light is soaked up by the black plastic. The softbox is attached to the strobe with velcro, you DIY folks out there finally made me modify my lovely sb-800, now it's even better :).
I'll get around to making a removable foil insert once I get some stronger reflecting foil from a camping supplier, one of those foil capes/survival blankets should do the trick.
Thanks to all of you DIY folks especially Nickwheeleroz for his DIY soft box tutorials which I am sure influenced this project in some way shape and form. The mkIII is going to be a collapsable version, coming soon...
