It was quite dark over here today so I had to use a flash and a softbox. This is why the green in the background is quite dark too.
Es war hier ziemlich dunkel heute, also musste ich einen Blitz und eine Softbox benutzen. Wg. des Blitzes ist das Grün im Hintergrund einigermaßen dunkel ausgefallen.
“Sense and Sensibility” - type of photo... Today was a rainy day and natural light just wasn’t there, so I dig out my old soft box .... and that’s the outcome
I decided to capture a quick splash image using my speed lights and a softbox behind my subject. Next time I would do more cleanup on the surface because it is a bit sloppy. It was a learning and a play day which may not produce the best results but I am just sharing the process, mistakes, and all.
As part of the on going softbox making competition this is second one of the series, from enchanting kerala diy team. you could find the full tutorial with pictures here.

Finally had some time to watch more of my Dean Collins DVD's. I'm still amazed at what a photo-genius he was. I got really inspired by his airport executive portrait, so I decided to have my own go at it.
SB-24 with CTO-gel (Lee 204) at 1/8-power behind the subject, SB-25 in a 60x60cm-softbox to my right, also on 1/8-power. I made a cardboard-speedlite-speedring-adapter-thingy, so I can use the softbox more often. :-)
I know, I know... it's pathetic. But I was all out of ideas, and I went to the trouble of shooting it - so thought I may as well upload it...
It worked better in my head :-)

I was walking into the grocery store the other day and they had a whole lot of mmmmuuuummmmmssssss on display. Tucked in a corner were a few of these. I looked at them and almost grabbed one, but I started going into the store. But then I heard, "Hey mister, take me. Take pictures of ME!"
What could I do?

In our many visits to Utah, we have seen a lot of beautiful arches, but have never come across a "Gourd Arch". This is my small attempt to remedy that.
Lighting stuff: I placed this on a mirror because I like seeing the different shapes that the reflection reveals. Lit with a YN560-III in a 24 inch softbox placed at camera left because I wanted the directional light shat creates the shadows which reveal shapes. Fill light came from a small hand mirror at camera right. The flash, in manual mode, was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other still life images that I've attempted are in my Still Life album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157635247182331/

This the another shot that we got from the shoot, I really like it a lot, I've showed some people it already and get some of the same feedback overall. Def looking to get some more on it, criticism is always welcome! I gotta go do mass amounts of pointless homework, sigh.

Self portrait created for club competition entitled "proverbs and sayings". This is a composite of 4 images (I hope you don't really think I have an egg inside my head!).
1) Me with spoon in setting
2) Setting without me
3) Close up of egg and yolk using exactly the same lighting set-up
4) Close up of top of egg upturned using same lighting set up.
These 4 layers were then intertwined in Photoshop CS2 mainly using layer masks with a few additional bits of jiggery pokery.
I tried using my 17-55mm lens first but just couldn't get the angle I wanted so used my Sigma 10-20mm lens to achieve the results I wanted.
Strobist information (see set up in other photo farm5.static.flickr.com/4072/4435115174_8cc50208a5_b.jpg (not sure how I link this properly) SB800 Manual mode in 24inch softbox high camera left attached using 10m cable to camera. This then triggered SB600 low camera right also set to manual mode also in 24 inch softbox.
I wouldn't dare eat them because I know nothing about which fungi are edible. But they smell delicious! Do you see the strand of spider silk stretching from the right-most mushroom to the large one in the center? It was quite dark when I made this photo just minutes before a thunderstorm.
