This series of photos was taken for the group "Macro Mondays." This week's theme is "Stephen King" and we were encouraged to photograph something based on King's extensive body of work. I am not a fan of the horror genre in books or movies, but Stephen King is such a creative man, i thought I could pull this theme off with a little humor. So I really got into the "corniness" of it all.
I took a little over 200 photos using various tiny (children) figures with corn on the cob, candy corn, Indian corn, and pop corn. This one in color is my favorite photo and I think it captures something a little terrifying. I have included 5 others in my photostream for you to see as well. This was a wonderful theme--and I had a blast with it. BTW, I have never seen the movie "Children of the Corn" or read the story--and I don't think I ever will. However, it is a very rich title that lends itself to interpretive metaphorical/magical imagery--thank you, Stephen King, for your words and creativity. =)

These five photos are a tribute to Rob Johnston who passed away on February 25, 2013. I attended Ryerson with him in the early 80s. He was a really talented photographer--his portraits were outstanding. He was a great guy, a true Newf through and through. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The man’s outline is sharply defined against the vivid backdrop, his footprints trailing behind him in the damp sand. The dramatic lighting accentuates the texture of the waves, the edge of the waterline, and the rugged outline of distant dunes, creating a powerful, cinematic moment of solitary wanderlust at day’s end.
I had such a blast with my first maternity shoot.

Il y a quelque chose de très calme dans cette image, malgré toute cette lumière autour d’Émilie. La fumée, les reflets chauds sur ses cheveux, cette lumière qui vient dessiner son visage par petites touches… tout donne à la scène une atmosphère presque irréelle, mais sans perdre le naturel du portrait. Elle regarde simplement ailleurs, comme absorbée par quelque chose que l’on ne voit pas. J’aime justement ne pas savoir ce qu’elle pense à cet instant. La lumière fait le reste, avec cette impression qu’elle continue de flotter autour d’elle même après la prise de vue..
EN There’s something very calm about this image, despite all the light surrounding Émilie. The smoke, the warm glow catching her hair, the way the light gently shapes her face… it gives the scene an almost unreal atmosphere without taking away from the natural feel of the portrait. She is simply looking away, as if caught up in something we can’t see. I like not knowing what she was thinking at that moment. The light does the rest, leaving the feeling that it’s still lingering around her even after the picture was taken...
