More playing with lighting and the Hot Pink Dward Calla Lily I recently bought.
Strobist info: One hand held SB600 in a snoot to the left and slightly in front of the flower. Triggered by the pop up flash on my D90.

I took this photo on the beach on the 4th of July...I love the effect of the firework coming out of the lantern, only problem is that it shattered the glass because it got so hot after repeatedly lighting explosives inside it ;)

In the middle of the day, I had to add some artificial darkness.
We're Here looks at Available Darkness today.
Sometimes the smallest faces carry the biggest emotions.
In this quiet moment, tears tell a story words cannot. Vulnerability, innocence, and resilience meet in a single expression. There is no performance here. No posing. Just pure feeling, captured as it happened.
I am drawn to moments like this because they remind us that strength is not always loud. Sometimes it lives in softness. In honesty. In letting ourselves feel.
This portrait is part of my ongoing fine art work exploring childhood emotion, connection, and human vulnerability through natural light and intimate framing.

I'm finally getting around to putting together a slide show of our trip to red rock country in the fall of 2012, and I came across this image from Canyonlands National Park in Utah. As a confirmed procrastinator, I put it off as long as I could, but I have a deadline. We don't get much weather in San Diego county where I live, so it was pretty exciting for us when the thunder and lightning started shortly after this picture was taken.

And now for something completely different...
I spotted this intimate little vignette on the side of Silver Falls in Mount Rainier National Park today while leading a workshop down there. The falls were really horribly lit and there wasn't much to shoot other than macros of sorts. Looking at the falls, I noticed some small highlights moving across some of the orange-ish rocks which were getting very lightly splashed by the falls and thought it'd make a good study in high contrast. The idea here was to expose precisely for the highlit area, rendering everything else in deep shadow, the result of which is...wait for it...golden.
Yes, you get a kickass picture and a bad pun at the same time. I'm so generous.
Another sinkhole in the Dead Sea region, filled with striking green water.
This is more than just a surreal landscape — it’s a scar on the Earth, growing deeper with every passing year.
The ground continues to collapse due to the dropping water level and human activity.
I stand close to the edge, not just as a traveler, but as a witness.
I believe it’s important to dedicate at least one photo to this — to remind ourselves that we still have time to act.
There’s still a chance to protect what’s left of this incredible place.

Romped around Cragmillar (gaelic for ‘high bare rock) in the sun and wind today when very suddenly great blue black, rain heavy clouds billowed in. I had picked up an extraordinary red leaf that felt in it’s redness like an exterior beating heart or a juicy secret. I hid it from the storm.
