ITAP = I took a picture

This was my first time taking picture of water drops and it was much difficult than I thought. I've tried several different lighting positions (I used 2 speedlites). After about 30 minutes of fiddling around with positions and settings, I've figured this was the perfect solution for me:

-Yongnuo YN 560 fired at the lowest setting pointed towards the background (in this case I used a teal 11 x18 construction paper)

-Neewer TT560 fired @ 1/8 power above the cup

I used an eye drop (Visine) to drop some water into the cup.

This was taken from where we stayed, near the southern end of the bay, looking out at the hills across the way that were almost glowing from the light of the setting sun behind us.

This is the black and white version of the latest view of the Calla lily plant that I'm currently exploiting. I converted the image to black and white using Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro 2 software. Like most images, it looks better when viewed large, and you can see it in that enlightened manner by clicking on the image or pressing "L" on your keyboard. Down below in the comments you can see the color version of this image. Please click on it if you'd like to see it larger.

I lit this with one YN560-III in an 8.6 inch Lastolite softbox above and to the right of the flower. Fill light came from a small hand mirror at camera left. The flash, in manual mode, was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. While the Lastolite soft box is relatively small for a softbox, because it's much larger than the subject and also within 4 inches of it, the light on the flower is very soft.

Even when life gets rough, busy, and frustrating, you can always turn to music to calm you down, pump you up, make you cry, and make you dance like a crazy person at 2am. Completely shut the world out every once in a while and trust me, you'll see a change within yourself.

Sometimes the path you want to take looks beautiful, but you have to go through something to reach it.

Half-hidden in shadow, the child’s eye pierces through the darkness with a gaze that is both haunting and innocent. This fine art black and white portrait captures the fragile balance between vulnerability and mystery, where light reveals only what it chooses to and silence holds the rest. A study in contrasts — light and dark, fear and wonder — it invites the viewer to pause, look deeper, and discover their own reflection in the intensity of that single eye.

This black and white portrait, filled with dramatic tones and shadow play, belongs to the world of fine art portraiture where emotion and storytelling merge. The cinematic atmosphere makes this image not only a portrait, but also a moment of mystery preserved in monochrome.

I swear, she was NOT scowling at me...she was glaring at her 2 year old brother who had managed to climb to the top of a ladder sitting in the garage. haha!

A monochrome street portrait capturing a moment of direct connection between photographer and subject. The interplay of natural light and shadow shapes the face while the embroidered shirt and textured beard add richness to the composition. The unwavering gaze transforms an ordinary pause into a powerful study of character, presence and dignity within the urban environment.

We've come to Willcox, Arizona to see the sandhill cranes, do sightseeing and hang out with friends. This was taken about 45 minutes before sundown when the clouds behind the trees went almost black, but the light on the watchers was warm and bright. I took this with my infrared camera because my color camera had a long lens and teleconverter on it, and I was too lazy to switch lenses. Also, it was dramatic light that I thought might look good in infrared.

Pink Hex: Caught in the Glow (B&W) - Fog, gels, and controlled light wrap the frame in color, but the real pull is in the pause. A moment caught mid-thought, where atmosphere and emotion meet without needing to compete.

More images from the sessions with Vanessa from a few weeks ago. We've scheduled another day of spontaneous shooting for next week.
