Subject matter experts from three of RDECOM’s research centers -- Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center; Communications–Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center; and Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center -- showcased the Army’s research on operational energy.
The Pentagon Courtyard was filled with exhibits Oct. 2-4 as part of the Pentagon Energy Security Event 2012.

This is a photograph from the annual Na Fianna AC "Bob Heffernan" 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Johnstownbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Tuesday 17th May 2016 at 20:00. The race is now firmly established on the Leinster road racing calendar with athletes travelling from all over the region to take part. The race has gained a glowing reputation as being one of the fastest 5KM road races in Ireland. It is one of the rare occasions around road racing circles these days where a very small club can organise a very successful large participation race. Today's race had another very large attendance with over 480 participants finishing the race following on from over 400 finishers last year. .
This race commemorates the years of work and volunteering that local man Bob Heffernan gave to Meath, Leinster, and Irish athletics from grass roots upwards and his work with the host club Na Fianna AC. Na Fianna AC are typical of many rural sporting clubs who have a large catchment area which combines rural North Kildare and South Meath. The race, known affectionately by club-members as simply "Bob's race" is a fitting tribute to commemorate his contribution to this sport.
The very changeable weather from the entire day made for an unpredictable night weather wise. There were several very heavy torrential showers of rain before the race. The race itself was ran in dry overcast conditions.
This race is part of the annual Meath AAI Road Race League despite the fact that the race is run completely in County Kildare. The current route for the race has stayed the same over the past few years. However previous to that the race was held in Enfield and also Rathmoylan in County Meath. The race starts on the busy Enfield to Endenderry road and this requires a big effort from stewards and marshalls. However, as always, the event was a resounding success with personal bests and great runs from many of the participants. The course is very fast and flat - it is a one loop course which is left-handed in terms of turns.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. In today’s world, threats to human rights abound, challenging the fabric of so many societies: The war in Syria has shattered the lives of millions, with human rights under attack on multiple fronts; rising authoritarianism is curtailing basic liberties in many countries; and the rights of women and marginalized communities remain under constant pressure around the world. International tools for responding to and preventing human rights violations are proliferating, but political will for action is weak.
On May 17, Foreign Policy at Brookings hosted U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein for an Alan and Jane Batkin International Leaders Forum focusing on the international progress and challenges facing human rights and how the United Nations is meeting them. High Commissioner Zeid offered his assessment of how the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights and other U.N. bodies are working to ensure effective global action to safeguard human rights in today’s turbulent context. High Commissioner Zeid spoke on the U.N.’s role in the field, its impact, and its contributions to the prevention of crises and early warning of unfolding human rights violations.

My contribution to “King Cre8’s Summer Paint Off 2021” This annual event showcases some amazing artists. The event was located in historic “Murder Alley” at Florence and Western in South Central Los Angeles.
Eight famous architects monument in St. Petersburg has become a tribute to the great architects for their contribution to the city. Indeed, their role in the development of architecture of the northern capital of Russia is great. The sculptural composition now decorates the Alexander Park of St. Petersburg. It depicts eight most famous architects: Voronikhin, Bazhenov, Auguste de Montferrand, Trezzini, Thomas de Thomon, Rossi, Rastrelli and Zakharov. The intention of the author brought them to the map of the city, and placed around their creations in miniature: St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Stock Exchange with Rostral columns and the Admiralty. By the way, one of the chairs is free. So, any visitor can sit down and symbolically participate in the discussion of the city plan. They say, that it helps those who do not have enough inspiration for creativity.
1. Andreyan Zakharov (19 August 1761 – 8 September 1811) Russian architect and representative of the Empire style. His designs also alternated neoclassicism with eclecticism. His greatest work was his renovation and expansion of the Admiralty building. In addition, he constructed several buildings in Gatchina and other towns neighboring Saint Petersburg
2. Andrey Nikiforovich Voronikhin (28 October 1759 — 21 February 1814) – Russian architect and painter. One of the founders of the monumental Russian Empire style. Born a serf of the Stroganov family, he is best known for his work on Kazan Cathedral in Saint Petersburg
3. Vasily Ivanovich Bazhenov (March 12, 1737 or 1738 – August 13, 1799) – Russian neoclassical architect, graphic artist, architectural theorist and educator. One of the leading local architects of the Russian Enlightenment, a period dominated by foreign architects. In the 1770s he became the first Russian architect to create a national architectural language
4. Auguste de Montferrand (January 23, 1786 – July 10, 1858) – French Neoclassical architect who worked primarily in Russia
5. Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli (1700 in Paris – 29 April 1771, Saint Petersburg) – French-born Russian architect of Italian descent. He developed an easily recognizable style of Late Baroque. His major works include the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg and the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo
6. Jean-François Thomas de Thomon (April 12, 1760 – September 4, 1813) – French neoclassical architect who worked in Russia in 1791–1813. Author of Old Saint Petersburg Stock Exchange and Rostral Columns and the first building of the Odessa Theatre, destroyed by fire in 1873. Contributed to the formation of Russian national variant of neoclassicism
7. Carlo di Giovanni Rossi (18 December 1775 – 18 April 1849) – Italian architect based in Russia. Author of many classical buildings and architectural ensembles in Saint Petersburg and its environments
8. Domenico Trezzini (c. 1670 – 1734) – Swiss Italian architect who elaborated the Petrine Baroque style of Russian architecture. His most notable work – the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg

Every time I have to check my credit card balance, I am reminded how irresponsible I can be. Not that I overspent my monthly limit (again) or that I overlooked the tiny print warning of an APR hike if a minimum payment is not received by a certain date and, yes, the date has passed. No, it’s the pang of shame and regret I feel the moment I read the password hint my credit card company sends to my email account’s inbox; Secret Question Number One: the name of your childhood bestfriend.
It is then that I am reminded why our pact of "friends forever" failed. My terms. No balance. Early withdrawal.

contributions topped certain minimum goals.
As a contribution to the legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the presidency of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and Europeana wanted to highlight the relevance of digital cultural heritage to the aims of the European Union during the next multiannual framework. During this two day event in Varna on May 28-29, 62 participants from 21 countries explored this together with experts and representatives of ministries of culture across Europe and draft a vision that expresses this contribution in concrete terms.
HE Ms. Annika Markovic, Resident Representative of Sweden to the IAEA, presented Sweden’s contribution to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Verification Pursuant to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and DPRK verification readiness to Rafael Mariano Grossi, IAEA Director General, during her official visit at the Agency headquarters in Vienna, Austria. 7 June 2022.

My contribution to the TreadleOn Vintage Apron Exchange. Apron was made on my 1949 Singer 201K treadle, and is being modeled by my lovely duct tape double, Eileen. (Technically the treadle stand belongs under my 1904 Singer 66 lotus, but if the head fits...) Pattern from a vintage flour sack apron found at a yard sale. Fabric is a cotton my quilting friend calls "homespun" purchased from Haven Hospice Attic thrift store.

One hundred Canadian Forces advisors and support staff serve at CFC as part of the Canadian Forces contribution to the NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan.
The training mission will see up to 950 Canadian Forces personnel serving at training camps and headquarters locations primarily in the Kabul area. Smaller contingents will serve at training institutions in Mazar-e-Sharif and Herat. The bulk of the Canadian contingent is scheduled to be deployed in Afghanistan by the fall of 2011.

The accomplishments and contributions of five Island seniors have helped build stronger communities across the province. That is why they’ve been named Prince Edward Island’s 2019 Senior Islanders of the Year.
Eileen Chiasson-Pendergast, Patrick Curley, Wanda MacLean, Paul H. Schurman and Isabel Yuill were recognized for their community leadership, spirit, and commitment to making Prince Edward Island great.
“Through their tireless volunteer efforts, mentorship, community activities, fund-raising, advocacy and overall positive attitude towards life, these Islanders have made a sustained and lasting impact on Prince Edward Island for the benefit of us all,” said Isabelle Christian, Chair of the PEI Seniors’ Secretariat.
The Senior Islanders of the Year award are given out annually to recognize the significant contribution of Island seniors in community life including volunteerism, artistic achievement, fund raising, community participation, fitness and recreation, and other activities. The recognition program is overseen by the PEI Seniors’ Secretariat.
In the canyon near Chinati Hot Springs, guests have started the kind of rock sculpture garden that seems to be popular in a lot of western areas. This was my contribution to the collection of "cairn' like structures that people have left.

WASHINGTON -- Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta learned about the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command’s contributions to national energy security during a tour of exhibits at the Pentagon Oct. 4.
Subject matter experts from three of RDECOM’s research centers -- Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center; Communications–Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center; and Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center -- showcased the Army’s research on operational energy.
The Pentagon Courtyard was filled with exhibits Oct. 2-4 as part of the Pentagon Energy Security Event 2012.

The 2010 NCL Literacy Leadership Awards Reception was held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, recognizing individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to improving literacy in the United States and included:
•Senator Thomas Harkin (IA), and his staff of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee who have been instrumental in supporting adult education at the federal level as well as representing the needs of America’s working families. David Johns of the HELP Committee was on hand to receive the award for Senator Harkin.
•Representative John Yarmuth (KY), a tireless advocate for literacy since his election in 2007, who has supported family literacy programs, championing Even Start programs for the most vulnerable families in poverty, and introducing the 2009 Literacy Education for All, Results for the Nation (LEARN) Act.
•English Under the Arches led by Betsy McKay, Director of Bilingual Leadership Development for McDonald’s USA LLC, for the award-winning program for developing English language and literacy skills for its bilingual managers and manager trainees.
•Kentucky Education Television (KET), Kentucky’s public broadcasting network since 1968, for their adult basic skills and workplace education series, Workplace Essential Skills and GED Connection, which are made available for free to 87% of American households through public broadcasting.
•Archie Willard, long time student advocate and leader who has nurtured the development of adult learner leaders, through his early support and leadership of VALUE, the national adult student organization.
Rep. Dan Maffei (NY) opened the event and announced the forming of a new House Adult Literacy Caucus, co-chaired by Rep. Maffei and Rep. Phil Roe (TN). The Adult Literacy Caucus aims to bring attention to the connections between literacy, economics and health and promote local, national, and global adult literacy initiatives.
The evening culminated with a celebration of the Congressional proclamation of Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, September 13–19, which had been co-sponsored by Rep. Jared Polis (CO) . The reception was supported by a generous grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Ambassador Betty King participated in a panel sponsored by the UN in Geneva to discuss the recently released papers “Making Change Happen: Enhancing the UN’s Contributions to Development” and “How Relevant is the Development UN?” Both papers were authored by the Future of the United Nations Development System (FUNDS) project of the Ralph Bunche Institute in New York. The paper “Making Change Happen: Enhancing the UN’s Contributions to Development” presents a comprehensive outline of how the UN development system will need to change and adapt to new realities, particularly in the context of structural and financing reforms. The paper suggests that all stakeholders in the UN development system will need to seek new ways of thinking that will lead to new paradigms or models in both areas. In her comments at the event, Ambassador King highlighted that the UN is both “indispensable” and “imperfect.” At its best, the UN can help prevent conflict, care for the needy, prevent deadly diseases, smooth the channels of global commerce, and promote values that we hold dear. She commended the authors of the study for their neat and concise divisions of the challenges the UN faces: 1) decentralization and rivalry, 2) ineffectiveness and irrelevance and 3) vested interests and lack of political will. She said that the world had evolved since the creation of the UN, yet despite our multi-polar world and a fast moving information age, much of the UN, especially the nuts and bolts of running it, is stuck around 1950.

As a contribution to the legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the presidency of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and Europeana wanted to highlight the relevance of digital cultural heritage to the aims of the European Union during the next multiannual framework. During this two day event in Varna on May 28-29, 62 participants from 21 countries explored this together with experts and representatives of ministries of culture across Europe and draft a vision that expresses this contribution in concrete terms.
