This experimental taxi was Volvo's contribution to a competition which was staged by the Museum of Modern Art in New York in co-operation with public transport and taxi organizations. Its compact body gave room for four passengers in a separated compartment, protected by a folding and padded frame. A sliding door on the right side with very low step-in height gave easy access for a wheelchair.

Hello,
Attached are Bolton YMCA's photos from our world challenge contribution. Staff, volunteers and young people walked a 14 mile round trip from our centre to Rivington Pike and back again. The pike is 1,191 feet (363 metres) high!!!
We do this every year as part of Mental Health Awareness week promoting 'Walk and Talk' This year we took our I am Whole posters and leaflets to promote the movement and combined World Challenge.

Each walked 14 miles (Minus Elliott who was carried) Which totaled 98 miles.
In addition, I will be running 10 miles on the day to take our total miles to 108.

Female chemists create networks of support to ensure greater visibility for their professional contributions
The American Museum of Natural History's Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Hall honors the former President and the contributions he made to city, state, and nation throughout his life. Born in New York City and raised in Oyster Bay, Long Island, Roosevelt became involved in New York City and State government, and went on to serve as Vice President and later, President of the United States. He was a pioneer of the conservation movement and had been involved with the American Museum of Natural History since his childhood—the original charter creating the Museum was signed in his family home in 1869.
There are four dioramas in the hall depicting Roosevelt's Elk Horn Ranch, in the badlands of North Dakota; the Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary in Oyster Bay, New York, which is also Roosevelt's final resting place; a scene from Old New York in 1660, depicting Peter Stuyvesant, Governor of New York, receiving a delegation of Hackensack Indians from New Jersey; and lastly this scene in the Adirondacks forest scene representing Roosevelt's support for conservation of both wildlife and forests. Roosevelt awakened public consciousness to the importance of saving the forests and animal life.
The forests of New York were originally mixed conifers and hardwoods. Most of these had been ruthlessly cut down when Roosevelt, as governor, inaugurated measures to save the timer resources for posterity. The best remaining tracs resembling the primeval forests are to be found today in certain favored sections of New York State, such as the Adirondack region portrayed in this group.
The white-tailed deer, or as it is frequently called, Virginia deer, is widely distributed in New York. Only a few were left in the state in 1898; policies advocated by Roosevelt led to the present abundance of this splendid game animal. It has a preference for regions which afford patches of forest, broken by clearings, abandoned farms, grassy-margined lakes and burned-over areas. In summer this deer is light brown in color but with the coming of winter its coat is replaced by a gray one.
This group was collected and designed by James L. Clark. Accessories and foreground were directed by Albert E. Butler, assisted by G. Frederick Mason. The animals are by Robert H. Rockwell and the background is by Hanson Puthuff.

This is my contribution to the My Little Pony Project 2012 show, May 5th, 2012. All of the artists were provided with a blank 18" G3 My Little Pony to customize however they wished. For the past few shows, I have been exploring other ideas and techniques in my work. I consider this a return to my ongoing Forest of Sorrows narrative.
This piece was created using polymer clay, epoxy, metal, wood and painted with acrylics. The Mon Petit La Mort ghost girl is removable and sits in place with the use of hidden magnets.

Students from ten regions across South Sudan have been praised for their winning essays, which have highlighted women’s contribution to durable peace in the country.
Three of the best students writers received trophies at an event in the country’s capital, on Wednesday, May 9th where hundreds gathered to briefly hear from some of the students, government representatives and the head of the United Nations’ Mission in South Sudan.
The student essays highlighted the need for women to be involved in national building; conflict resolution; ending tribalism; unity, and economic development, among other issues.
Ninety high schools participated in the essay competition.

As a contribution to the legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the presidency of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and Europeana wanted to highlight the relevance of digital cultural heritage to the aims of the European Union during the next multiannual framework. During this two day event in Varna on May 28-29, 62 participants from 21 countries explored this together with experts and representatives of ministries of culture across Europe and draft a vision that expresses this contribution in concrete terms.
I uploaded all those pictures of Berna playing catch for the camera over the past few days. Well, while Berna was doing that, this is what Oscar had to contribute - peeing on the goalpost. He makes me so proud.

This is my contribution to this week theme in Digitalmania: Nick Bantock/mail art. It's a rereading of a envelope I did on December, 2010.
I've made it simple, as it was made as a tribute to my late grandmother. It's adressed in the brazilian way, it means that sender's name and adress go in the back of the envelope;
Angels at the background was given by Jeannete (Soartful); other angels are dover's samples. Envelope was used in Brazil in the past for international mail; stamp and postmark are brazilian postal service special edition for 2010 Christmas.

To Support Displaced Youth from Fallujah
Inauguration of Temporary Premises of Fallujah University (Dorms and Classrooms)
in Abu Ghraib, Baghdad
On 23 June 2016, the temporary premises of Fallujah University, located inside the Veterinary College, Baghdad University in Abu Ghraib, were inaugurated. With the generous contribution from the Government of Japan, the temporary premises of Fallujah University were established by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) providing 25 classrooms and 128 residential units that can accommodate 512 students, in addition to basic site infrastructure and an administration building. The project aimed at supporting displaced youth who bear enormous and long-lasting human, social and economic costs.
His Excellency Mr. Sohaib Al-Rawi, Governor of Anbar, who attended the event, commented that while the Anbar Governorate has been supporting institutions displaced by violence outside and within Anbar, including Fallujah University, the ongoing financial crisis has affected all aspects of people’s lives and limited the government’s capacity to support. The Governor acknowledged the efforts of UN agencies and the ongoing support of UN-Habitat on housing self-repair and shelter projects within Ramadi. He expressed his gratitude to all those who stand with people of Iraq, and specifically of Fallujah, in the midst of the hardship they face.
On UN-Habitat’s side, Dr. Erfan Ali, Head of Iraq Programme, pointed out that lack of access to education among youth is one of the key factors that fuel a cycle of poverty, hopelessness and frustration. He expressed his hope that these new premises of Fallujah University will enable young women and men from Fallujah to continue their education and play an active role as agents of positive and constructive change.
Mr. Hirofumi Miyake, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan in Iraq, stated that Japan also has its own internally displaced persons, resulting from disasters of tsunamis, earthquakes, debris, and the latest nuclear accident, and therefore the people of Japan understand very well the importance of support to displaced persons in Iraq. He further emphasized that Japan will continue to sustain the efforts of UN-Habitat to improve the living conditions of the displaced persons in Iraq.
Dr. Ibraheem Abdulkareem, Deputy President of Fallujah University, stated that the completion of the new premises of Fallujah University has provided a glimpse of hope in the heart of displaced students, and he recognized that the inauguration is concomitant to the liberation of Fallujah.
On his part, Mr. Sattar Nawroz Khan, General Director of Migration at the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, praised the joint cooperation and partnership between multiple actors, including the Governments of Iraq and Japan, Anbar Governorate, Fallujah University, and UN-Habitat, that enabled the positive results of the overall project.
This project was implemented within the framework of larger programme titled “Humanitarian Support to Internally Displaced Persons in Iraq through Provision of Durable Shelter,” funded by the Government of Japan, aiming to improve the living conditions of internally displaced persons in Iraq through the provision of prefabricated durable shelters, and thereby to support and strengthen their self reliance.

Ambassador Betty King participated in a panel sponsored by the UN in Geneva to discuss the recently released papers “Making Change Happen: Enhancing the UN’s Contributions to Development” and “How Relevant is the Development UN?” Both papers were authored by the Future of the United Nations Development System (FUNDS) project of the Ralph Bunche Institute in New York. The paper “Making Change Happen: Enhancing the UN’s Contributions to Development” presents a comprehensive outline of how the UN development system will need to change and adapt to new realities, particularly in the context of structural and financing reforms. The paper suggests that all stakeholders in the UN development system will need to seek new ways of thinking that will lead to new paradigms or models in both areas. In her comments at the event, Ambassador King highlighted that the UN is both “indispensable” and “imperfect.” At its best, the UN can help prevent conflict, care for the needy, prevent deadly diseases, smooth the channels of global commerce, and promote values that we hold dear. She commended the authors of the study for their neat and concise divisions of the challenges the UN faces: 1) decentralization and rivalry, 2) ineffectiveness and irrelevance and 3) vested interests and lack of political will. She said that the world had evolved since the creation of the UN, yet despite our multi-polar world and a fast moving information age, much of the UN, especially the nuts and bolts of running it, is stuck around 1950.

My Easter contribution. No message here. Just had some Easter decorations and thought I'd snap something while I was otherwise immobilized today due to bashing my foot in. Tried one with the ring light and went for a shadowless look but ended up preferring this "dramatic" version, lol. I thought the yellow glow of the light through the plastic was cool too.

Our ornament contribution to go on a surprise Christmas wreath for Evan's teacher. (Each kid in his class is contributing one.) Instead of buying a small ornament, I got this idea to make one out of card stock and thread that I already had around the house. Before gluing it together, I also got Evan to write his name in pencil on the back of one leaf.
The news is that the Great Blue Herons are back in their nest on Harvey Pond in Westmoreland New Hampshire. We missed them last year, but they are hard at work improving their nest. Harvey Pond, in Westmoreland New Hampshire, is a great place to observe the action.
