Capital One made a $5,000 contribution to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation. The funds will support the children’s programs in the Mid-City branch of the New Orleans Public Library. The Mid-City library branch, located at 330 N. Carrollton Ave., is one of seven temporary locations operated by the New Orleans Public Library.

Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) celebrated the Birth Anniversary of Pai Tiatrist, Joao Agostinho Fernandes on Monday, 14th December 2015 at Pai Tiatrist auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
On this occasion TAG presented Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards to 6 tiatr artistes who have contributed immensely towards the development of tiatr stage. They are T. Britton, Sharon Mazarello, Xavier Gomes, Diniz Mestri, Fatima D’Souza and Lawrence de Tiracol. Shri. Vishnu Surya Wagh, Hon’ble M.L.A. and Chairman of Kala Academy Goa was the Chief Guest. Shri. Damodar Naik, Chaiman of Ravindra Bhavan – Margao as the Guest of Honour. Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, former President of Tiatr Academy as the Special Invitee.

Over 1,300 personnel from all three armed services, veterans and cadets made the 2019 National Armed Forces Day parade in Salisbury the largest one to date. Originally conceived as Veterans Day, the name of the event was changed in 2009 to National Armed Forces Day to celebrate the contributions of both past and present members of the British Armed Forces. Taking place on the last Saturday of June, the parade is one aspect of a whole weekend where the national lead event is hosted by a different town or city each year around the UK.
The national event was held from 28 to 30 June 2019 in Salisbury and hosted by Wiltshire Council and its council leader Baroness Scott of Bybrook OBE.
Her Royal Highness Princess Anne reviewed the parade on 29 June 2019 of more than 1,300 service personnel, cadets and veterans and took the salute on the dais in front of the Guildhall, accompanied by the Mayor of the City of Salisbury John Walsh, as the procession went by. The parade was preceded by a fly past by the Red Arrows at 10 am. The parade was led by a detachment from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, followed by bands and marching contingents from the three armed services, veterans and cadets and finished with the British Army units which hold the Freedom of the City of Salisbury.

Defence Secretary, Penny Mordaunt said: “On Armed Forces Day we celebrate the exceptional contribution service personnel, regular or reservist, veterans and their families make to our security and prosperity. The Armed Forces protect us and defend us around the world and serve communities throughout our country. With more than 300 events taking place across the UK, it’s incredible to see people coming together to show their support for the Armed Forces.”
The national event provided an opportunity to welcome the troops returning from Germany to Wiltshire, as one-quarter of the British regular army will be based in the county by 2020.
The Armed Forces and Salisbury have a close and historic relationship and the national event gave the people of Salisbury the chance to thank the Armed Forces for their tireless support towards the city’s recovery following the Novichok poison attacks in 2018.
Baroness Scott of Bybrook OBE, leader of Wiltshire Council, said: “Wiltshire is the beating heart of the Armed Forces and we are extremely proud of our long association with the military. The Armed Forces Day National Event is a unique opportunity to recognise and pay tribute to the specialist military teams, the emergency services and the other organisations that managed the incident and the subsequent clean-up that has helped south Wiltshire to return to normal.”
The awardees in this category demonstrated qualities characteristic of John B. Dewitt who devoted his life to the protection of public lands. His wide ranging contributions to California’s state parks system were in the forms of labor, funding and political support. Through the Dewitt Award, we are recognizing partners who have demonstrated a high level of commitment over a substantial period of time towards accomplishing our mission.
The Tamalpais Lands Collaborative (TLC), being represented by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, has made an extraordinary contribution to our mission at local and statewide levels. At a local level – in the Bay Area District - contributions from TLC include helping monitor rare plants, wildlife, and other resources through programs that obtain critical data and engage members of the community. At the statewide level, the department has utilized TLC as a template and successful example of collaborative resource stewardship.
Their work has helped inspire our strategic focus on landscape scale conservation and has helped inform at least two Transformation Projects: the Redwoods Rising Project and Crystal Cove Resource Collaborative, while contributing to our overall approach to developing sustainable partnerships.

Ross Craig (1926-2012) was a local historian born in Stockton and dedicated much of his life promoting and conserving the history of Stockton, NSW. He possessed a wealth of knowledge about the suburb and was a founding member of the Stockton Historical Society and co-editor of its magazine. Pat Craig supported her husband’s passion for history, and together they made a great contribution to the Stockton and Newcastle communities. We thank the Craig Family and Stockton Historical Society who have kindly given Cultural Collections at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia, access to the collection and allowed us to publish the images. Thanks also to Vera Deacon for her liaison in attaining this important collection.

This is my contribution to the "Stop It' show, 9/10/2011 at Munky King, Los Angeles. The theme of the show revolves around drawing awareness to bullying. I was honored to be asked by the curator, Super Cooper Berella, to participate and hope that my piece conveys a bit of the theme appropriately. This original sculpture was created from epoxy, polymer clay, metal and craft porcelain.

"Cooper Berella (aka SuperCooper), a 12 year old artist, art collector, and supportive member of the art community, is curating his second art show at Munky King Gallery in Los Angeles. “Stop It!” opens on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 6-10pm. The theme of the show is meant to draw awareness to bullying and cyberbullying. Cooper has confirmed over 70 artists from around the world to participate in the show. Paintings, drawings, custom toys, and prints expressing the artists’ view of bullying will be on display. Part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to GLIDE (Gays and Lesbians Initiating a Dialog for Equality) and CHIME Institute (an organization dedicated to inclusive education where kids of all abilities learn together). Artwork will be displayed at Munky King Gallery in Los Angeles."

Ambassador Betty King participated in a panel sponsored by the UN in Geneva to discuss the recently released papers “Making Change Happen: Enhancing the UN’s Contributions to Development” and “How Relevant is the Development UN?” Both papers were authored by the Future of the United Nations Development System (FUNDS) project of the Ralph Bunche Institute in New York. The paper “Making Change Happen: Enhancing the UN’s Contributions to Development” presents a comprehensive outline of how the UN development system will need to change and adapt to new realities, particularly in the context of structural and financing reforms. The paper suggests that all stakeholders in the UN development system will need to seek new ways of thinking that will lead to new paradigms or models in both areas. In her comments at the event, Ambassador King highlighted that the UN is both “indispensable” and “imperfect.” At its best, the UN can help prevent conflict, care for the needy, prevent deadly diseases, smooth the channels of global commerce, and promote values that we hold dear. She commended the authors of the study for their neat and concise divisions of the challenges the UN faces: 1) decentralization and rivalry, 2) ineffectiveness and irrelevance and 3) vested interests and lack of political will. She said that the world had evolved since the creation of the UN, yet despite our multi-polar world and a fast moving information age, much of the UN, especially the nuts and bolts of running it, is stuck around 1950.

As a contribution to the legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the presidency of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and Europeana wanted to highlight the relevance of digital cultural heritage to the aims of the European Union during the next multiannual framework. During this two day event in Varna on May 28-29, 62 participants from 21 countries explored this together with experts and representatives of ministries of culture across Europe and draft a vision that expresses this contribution in concrete terms.
I uploaded all those pictures of Berna playing catch for the camera over the past few days. Well, while Berna was doing that, this is what Oscar had to contribute - peeing on the goalpost. He makes me so proud.

Veterans Day is an opportunity to publicly commemorate the contributions of living veterans. Armistice Day officially received its name in America in 1926 through a congressional resolution. It became a national holiday 12 years later by similar congressional action.
If W.W.II had been "the war to end all wars" Nov. 11 might still be called Armistice Day. Realizing that peace was equally preserved by veterans of W.W.II and Korea, Congress decided to make the day an occasion to honor all those who have served America. In 1954 President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming Nov. 11 as Veterans Day.
A law passed in 1968 changed the national commemoration of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. It soon became apparent, however, that Nov. 11 was a date of historic significance to many Americans. Therefore, in 1978 Congress returned the observation to its traditional date.

This is a photograph from the 1st round of the 2016 Pat Finnerty Memorial 5KM Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 4th May 2016 at 20:00. The Road League is promoted and organised by Mulligar Harriers Athletic Club. It is very well established as an annual event which takes place on every Wednesday night in the month of May. Tonight the weather was dull and overcast but mild making for very good running conditions. About 250 participants took part in the race which runs a traffic free course over a mix of road and hilly forest trail.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Students from ten regions across South Sudan have been praised for their winning essays, which have highlighted women’s contribution to durable peace in the country.
Three of the best students writers received trophies at an event in the country’s capital, on Wednesday, May 9th where hundreds gathered to briefly hear from some of the students, government representatives and the head of the United Nations’ Mission in South Sudan.
The student essays highlighted the need for women to be involved in national building; conflict resolution; ending tribalism; unity, and economic development, among other issues.
Ninety high schools participated in the essay competition.

At Camp Stanley in Uijeongbu July 10, the U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud and Area I holds a Stanley Summer Fun Recognition Lunch to acknowledge the role of those Soldiers and civilians whose efforts contributed to the success of the Stanley Cup and BOSS Summer Fun event held June 28th at Camp Stanley. Last month's event was a day of sports - basketball, softball, volleyball and tug-of-war, an early-morning fun run, and carnival games, a dunk tank, a clown on stilts, and food and beverages. During the recognition lunch, which was held at Reggie's, Lt. Col. Dale S. Crockett, commanding officer of the 23rd CBRNE Battalion, presented certificates of appreciation to each of the seven. Camp Darby Military Community volunteers prepared and shared typical Hispanic dishes, demonstrated different types of Latin dance and made pinatas for children. Organizers wanted to give Darby personnel a taste of Hispanic culture.
This year's National Theme is "Diversity United, Building America's Future Today". The Theme refers to the vital role Hispanics play in helping to shape our country. During Hispanic American Heritage Month the U.S. Army recognizes the civilian and military achievements and contributions of these individuals.

Our ornament contribution to go on a surprise Christmas wreath for Evan's teacher. (Each kid in his class is contributing one.) Instead of buying a small ornament, I got this idea to make one out of card stock and thread that I already had around the house. Before gluing it together, I also got Evan to write his name in pencil on the back of one leaf.

The building, designed by Nigel Coates Architects following an architectural design competition managed by RIBA Competitions, consists of four giant stainless steel drums, surrounding an atrium area, the upper floor of which has a glazed roof. The drums, whose tops were built to rotate in to the wind, no longer rotate and have been left pointing in various directions.
Unusual features
The unusual building has acquired a number of local nicknames including the curling stones, drums and kettles. The Museum featured a 3D surround sound auditorium in one of the drums (called Soundscapes) created by Sheffield-based musician and producer Martyn Ware, who later used the same technology as the basis for his touring project "The Future of Sound". Two other drums were called Perspectives (music for different purposes) and Making Music (hands on). The final drum was used to show music around the world, but was supposed to accommodate changing exhibitions - this never happened as the museum closed. The interactive exhibitions were developed with the Philips electronics firm.
Facilities
The ground floor contained office space, a shop, a bar, a cafe and a further exhibition space. Access to this floor was free, with only the top floor forming the museum.
Subsequent use of building
It became a live music venue for a period from July 2001 and then being taken over by Sheffield Hallam University from September 2003, who bought it from Yorkshire Forward for £1.85m in February 2003. It is now the university's Students' Union.
