Preserved British Rail Class 03 0-6-0 diesel shunter 03170 at North Weald Station on the heritage Epping Ongar Railway (EOR) in Essex (UK).
03170 was built at British Railways Swindon Works as D2170 in November 1960 and withdrawn from service and sold for private industrial use on May 23rd 1989.
03170 arrived at the EOR in September 2010.
My second roll of colour film and sometime in May 1983 a class 31 rolls off the Reading line and across the Junction into Basingstoke Station heading for Eastleigh yard (I guess?) My Gran lived in Hampshire so I spent many school holidays on the South Western division and this is the only time I saw a Class 31 in this area. The class 31 seems to be the only sharp part of the picture but I cannot tell you if its the awful lens on the Halina Paulette Electric or my beginners technique! 2 blurry spotters can be seen on the left watching the rare loco.

66772 was built at the EMD facility in Muncie Indiana (USA) and arrived in the UK at Newport Docks on December 7th 2014.
Class 45 no 45 150 approaches Manchester Victoria. Numerically the highest numbered class 45. The building on the left was the signalling centre. On some of my visits to Victoria there was often a locomotive or two stabled in front of the building. The lines to the extreme right are the lines from Bury, which then were electrified on the third rail. These now carry the metrolink trams. 21st October 1978.

Preserved British Rail Class 89 25kV AC Co-Co electric locomotive 89001 being towed back to its home at the nearby Barrow Hill Railway Centre after being outshopped with a well deserved fresh coat of 1980s British Rail Inter City swallow livery at Toton TMD (Traction and Maintenance Depot) near Long Eaton in the County of Nottinghamshire (UK).
This unique 6000 bhp prototype electric locomotive was built at British Rail Crewe Works in 1986.
89001 had a very troubled service life and was written off as a nil value asset after its last revenue earning service train in July 1992.
Note space have been left for a nameplate to be attached which will almost definitely be it's original nameplate 'Avocet' which was removed on withdrawal from service in 1992.
All part of the continuing restoration of 89001 by 'The AC Locomotive Group'.

Two of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen 60 strong 1100 class locomotives which date from 1950 and were based upon the SNCF Class BB 8100 design, they were extensively rebuilt between 1978 and 1982.
They operated on both freight and passenger turns and were the NS main locomotive until the arrival of Class 1600's.
Unfortunately they were very unpopular to a point of being downright hated by the drivers for a number of reasons, and they were paid a special bonus for driving them.

The 47 class are a class of diesel-electric locomotives built by A Goninan & Co for the Public Transport Commission in 1972/73.
Twenty were ordered from A Goninan & Co with the first delivered in July 1972. After undergoing acceptance trails the first entered service in September 1972 with the last delivered in May 1973. Originally intended for use hauling coal services in the Hunter Valley, they were allocated to Bathurst to operate services in the state's west from Lithgow to Euabalong West, Bourke and Cootamundra and all branches in between. Their excellent ride qualities saw them find favour with crews, although they did suffer from overheating with one destroyed by fire in April 1974 and another in a collision in March 1977.
In January 1981 it was decided to transfer the class to Broadmeadow to take up the duties they had originally been built for being used to haul coal services from Belmont, Dudley, Lambton and Pelton. They also saw use on services to Werris Creek, Tamworth and Moree. They continued to return to Bathurst Workshops for overhaul. A downturn in traffic as a result of a drought saw them placed in store at Parkes in 1982/83 before all were reactivated in 1984 resuming duties out of Broadmeadow.
Despite their favouritism with crews, their high maintenance costs saw them selected for withdrawal in 1989 with only six in service or under repair by November 1989 with the last being taken out of service in December 1990.
In 1990 the Lachlan Valley Railway purchased 47s 01 and 08 followed in February 1994 by 02, 03, 07 and 16. A later purchase was 4717. These were used to operate wheat services in the Cowra region in 1993/94.
In June 1999 they commenced operating trip working services between Port Botany and the Cooks River container terminal in Sydney for Lachlan Valley Rail Freight followed in July 1999 by a service between Cooks River and Carrington for R&H Transport Services.
Five Lachlan Valley Railway units remain in service, primarily operating infrastructure trains for Southern Shorthaul Railroad.

50019 at Bristol descending Ashley Bank. Taken in Spring 1990. New the 50 had worked up earlier the day and decided to set tripod up with 400mm to catch train coming down bank.
It is hard to inagine that the Class 306 EMU was first introduced in 1949, and they were a familiar sight for many years on the Liverpool Street- Shenfield services. They were built to a pre-Second World War LNER design by Metro Cammell and Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company. They were withdrawn in the early 1980s, but unit 017 was retained, passing into ownership of First Great Eastern, who refurbished it to operational condition for use on special occasions. After many years of storage exposed to the elements, as it continues to do so at Shildon, it is now pending assessment by the NRM with a view to possible restoration.

After showing the image on other internet sites I have been advised this is a Swindon built example but no one has come forward with a definite identification.
This pic is one of many photographs I've purchased for mere pennies or sometimes a few pounds over the years via different internet auction sites.
These pics have no copyright stamp etc so after spending some time cleaning the images up I now feel it is time to show them and not let the collection just hide away.
At the time of posting the original photographer is unknown.
If the picture is yours then please contact and I will remove ASAP.
