I meant to upload these pics alwhile ago. They are from the class I taught this summer here in Chicago. The dolls are made by my students ( the people in the pics).

Class 37 37011 is pictured in March Yard on May 15th 1977.

The first major event of the year, the East Lancashire Diesel Gala, here 31466 is seen arriving at Heywood with what will be the 12.15 service to Bury.

The Marauder-class corvette was a 195-meter-long light capital ship introduced prior to the Clone Wars.

 

Suggested figure would be a custom for the rebel leader Bria Tharen.

October 6th, 1976

West Vale / Greetland, near Halifax

Class 40 40014, formerly Antonia, backs into the small oil yard at West Vale, near Halifax. The nameplate mountings are still visible. The terminal still exists (2014) but no longer served by rail. The engine was withdrawn in November 1981

N&W Steam Giants Article

 

Norfolk & Western Railway, A class 2-6-6-4 Steam Locomotive

 

Norfolk & Western's "Mercedes of Steam", these articulateds featured the latest steam locomotive technology when introduced in the late 1930s. A total of 43 A class locomotives were built in the N&W's own shops at Roanoke, Virginia. Capable of 125,897 pounds of tractive effort, and able to pull passenger trains at 70 mph, the A class is one of the all time great steam locomotives. A class no. 1218 is preserved at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke Virginia.

My LEGO model of 1218 features working Baker valve gear, and is powered by two Power Functions XL motors in the tender driving through the tender trucks.

A pair of Ex-Conrail EMDs are in charge of Selkirk bound Q64012 as they make their way through Conneaut on a clear spring morning. The leader is one of very few SD40-2s remaining with the class lights still in place.

BR class 302 unit no 297 rolls into Barking's platform 8 with a train off the Tilbury line one weekend afternoon. The driver is wearing one of those 'kepi' hats thought to aid British Rail's modern image...

A class 108 unit calls at Bolton with a service to Blackburn.

This was in the period after the colour light signalling had been introduced but before the old station building on Trinity Street was taken out of use and demolished.

That staircase has long gone. But not the cafe, it is still there slightly altered but now a WH Smiths selling drinks!

Preserved English Electric Type 1 'Chopper' Class 20 Bo-Bo diesel locomotive 20205 with 20189 behind at Wymondham Abbey Halt on the Mid Norfolk Railway in Norfolk (UK).

 

20205 was built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows as British Railways Type 1 D8305 in 1967 and withdrawn from service on December 18th 1989.

 

The English Electric Type 1 Class 20 locomotives were first introduced onto British Railways in 1957.

 

20205 and 20189 were both guest locomotives at the MNR courtesy of Michael Owen and the Class 20 Locomotive Society.

Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. Type JT42CWR Class 66 Co-Co diesel locomotive 66525 waiting for the road near Europa Junction just west of Ipswich Station on the Great Eastern Main Line in the County of Suffolk (UK).

 

66525 was designed and built by General Motors Electro Motive Division in London, Ontario Canada and arrived in the United Kingdom on December 11th 2000.

English Electric Type 3 Class 37 Co-Co diesel locomotive 37405 as operated by Direct Rail Services just after working the top and tailed 2C63 14:55 (15:23 1E) Abellio Greater Anglia Great Yarmouth- Norwich short set service at Norwich Station at the end of the Great Eastern Main Line in Norfolk (UK).

 

37405 was built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows and entered service as D6982 on May 13th 1965.

 

An extremely rare example of a 50+ year old first generation diesel locomotive hauled (or pushed!) service train.

At the December 2018 timetable changes these services are to be extended from Falkirk through to Edinburgh Waverley and be operated by the new Class 385

The displaced diesels off these services are to be used to strengthen other services round Scotland with others being sent to Arriva Northern

British Rail Class 90 25kV Bo-Bo electric locomotive 90010 heads southbound working the 1P05 06:00 (07:50 29L) Abellio Greater Anglia Norwich- London Liverpool Street service train at a grim Chelmsford Station on the Great Eastern Main Line in Essex (UK).

 

90010 was built at British Rail Crewe Works and entered service on October 25th 1988.

 

The caged signal device to the left of the train is called a 'banner repeater' and these are positioned when the driver cannot see a forthcoming colour aspect signal. In this case it's for the down signal L717 at the other end of the platform out of sight (the up line) during bi-directional workings.
