The origin of the Firespit class cruiser in unfortunatly lost, although it is believed to have originated from the colony world of Demeter, sometime around 2320. Sold primarily to the Colonial Militia, this is one of the only vessels the Militia acquires firsthand. It is perfect for its duties, being both fast and well-armed, though lacking in shields and armour. However, this does little to reduce its effectiveness, as it usually goas up against pirates or similar threats, which tend to be less well-armed than typical militaries. The Firespit, although capable of high spatial velocities, has poor acceleration, and not vey much handling capabilites as well.
The quality of a Firespit's performance hinges mainly on the training and experience of its captain and crew. The Militia unfortunately by its very nature has a problem with standardising officer training, and weeding out opportunists. Many a freighter has sighed in relief upon the appearance of a Firespit, only to groan in disgust after paying Passage fees, and many a pirate has blanched at the sight of a Firespit, only to easily outmaneuver it, board it and claim it as his own.
The Firespit remains, however, a symbol of order and protection thoughtout the Far Reaches and the Periphery. The actions of the CMS Southampton during the pirates raids of 2346-2351 are textbook examples of how much this vessel type can accomplish given the right crew.

Class 47 47848 is pictured heading south through Newcastle Central en-route from Craigentinny to Derby Litchurch Lane on September 15th 2017.My first trip behind this locomotive was as 47068 during October 1981 on a Newcastle Central to Kings Cross run. It failed at Peterborough but I wasn't complaining as it was replaced by Class 31 31160. Four other trips followed between May 1999 and May 2002 all between Newcastle Central and Durham as 47848.
My granddaughter at dance class, Dec 17 2011. They only open one class for the adults to view every year. I guess it's like a Christmas present. I took a bunch; this and the ones below in Comments were my very faves. Try large.
English Electric Type 3 Class 37 Co-Co diesel locomotive 37422 as operated by Direct Rail Services top and tailed with 37405 working the Abellio Greater Anglia Norwich- Great Yarmouth drags short set at Norwich Station at the end of the Great Eastern Main Line in Norfolk (UK).
An extremely rare example of a 50+ year old first generation diesel locomotive hauled service train.
37422 was built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows and entered service as D6966 on February 11th 1965.

Class 90 No.90042 with 90007 dead in train leave Ipswich on 4M88 Felixstowe - Crewe on 22nd June 2009.90007 was going to Crewe for overhaul.New to stock at Crewe Electric on 5th June 1990 as 90042 and was renumbered to 90142 from 12th July 1991 until 17th November 2001 when it reverted back to 90042.She has recently been outshopped in Freightliner Powerhaul livery.

Class 47 47401 Great Eastern comes out of the gloom of the New Street tunnels on Sunday 20/01/1986 working a Poole to Liverpool service the loco was exchanged here for Class 86 86224.

A Class 40 - the number seems to be 353 - on 1V93. Date / location unknown.
The loco is still in green, the BR Database website shows it had the yellow end applied to the green livery in October 1969, it would be renumbered to 40153 in February 1974, so between those two dates. It was allocated to Gateshead in that period.
Siemens Desiro Class 360 4 car 25kV Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) 360107 creeping through the countryside at the rear of the 12 car 1Y32 17:58 (18:45 RT at KEL) Abellio Greater Anglia London Liverpool Street- Ipswich service train northbound at Church Street Level Crossing on the Great Eastern Main Line near Kelvedon in Essex (UK).
Class 24 24045 is pictured, awaiting its fate, at Swindon Works, on October 26th 1976. It was eventually cut-up in December of that year.
Preserved English Electric Type 1 'Chopper' Class 20 Bo-Bo diesel locomotive 20205 with 20189 behind at Wymondham Abbey Halt on the Mid Norfolk Railway in Norfolk (UK).
20205 was built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows as British Railways Type 1 D8305 in 1967 and withdrawn from service on December 18th 1989.
The English Electric Type 1 Class 20 locomotives were first introduced onto British Railways in 1957.
20205 and 20189 were both guest locomotives at the MNR courtesy of Michael Owen and the Class 20 Locomotive Society.

Preserved Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW) Type 3 Class 33 Bo-Bo diesel locomotive 33035 at Sheringham Station on the heritage North Norfolk Railway in Norfolk (UK).
33035 entered service as D6553 in May 1961 and withdrawn from traffic in October 1996.
33035 was a special guest locomotive at the NNR courtesy of Pioneer Diesels Ltd.
BR (SR) Class 489 Standard Mk.I 650 V dc 3rd rail Motor Luggage Van No.(48)9110 (car No.68510) in BR Gatwick Express livery (a forerunner of the Inter City livery) leaving Victoria at the rear of a rake of Class 488 2-car and 3-car sets of Mk.2f coaches (modified from standard coaches) headed by a Class 73 electro-diesel loco on a service to Gatwick Airport, 08/84.
