Top Yard at the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway's Boston Lodge Works.

The area has been sensitvely refurbished and returned to its 19th Century appearance thanks to a £3 million heritage lottery grant which has seen buildings around the yard conserved and repaired. The tracks lead into the blacksmith's shop where many of the metal bodied slate wagons were built and repaired.

The wagons which now form part of the gravity slate train are maintained there.

Guided tours of Boston Lodge Works and Depot are available for visitors to book. This was taken during a FRS Members' Tour during the 2026 AGM Weekend.

CN 2268 and CN 2816 hustle an empty potash train from Saint John, NB west across the Richelieu river between Otterburn Park and Beloeil, QC.

I was feeling like ending this beautiful day in a good way, enjoying the last rays of sunshine, before driving back home. Not a lot beats sitting at a quiet place with sun heating up your body. The place I found did not really qualify for the quiet criterium, right next to the road, but considering it was only april there wasn't all that much traffic. I was lucky, because this evening I saw a lot of northbound trains at the exact right time. Only minutes before shadows started eating away the foreground I got this nice looking Traxx engine hauling containers along the right bank of the Rhine river; it's bright red livery contrasting nicely with the warm green of the bushes.

The highlight of the 2025 September Steam Gala held at the Pontypool and Blaenafon Railway between 12th and 14th of September was what is believed to be the first appearance of a London, Brighton and South Coast Railway "Terrier" locomotive to Wales.

Here FENCHURCH which is normally resident on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex can be seen running approaching Blaenafon Furnace Sidings Station with a train from Blaenafon High Level.

Here's another one continuing the "trains and castles" photo series. Pictured are the ruins of the 12th century Burg Ehrenfels, while a DB Cargo train is seen passing underneath. The Archbishop of Mainz had this castle built, as a defense, but is also served as a customs post together with the Mouse Tower that was built in the Rhine river and is still in good condition today. The castle was destroyed by French troops in 1689 and stayed that way until today.

I'm always conscious of local culture when we're out on a trip. A special interest in local beer culture makes a trip all the more interesting. In the background of this photo, you can see the buildings of the Brasserie Meteor. This independant brewery is home to Meteor (pils and lager) and Wendelinus (blonde and roussa), and also creates occasional brewings.

We saw many trains, including Prima 27037 and a northbound mixed freight.

A pair of GEVO's are making easy work of about 30 cars headed north to La Tuque from Garneau yard on a fine, chilly and crystal clear May afternoon. The train is passing the hamlet of Lac-Chat, where a few houses and summer cottages dot a small, but beautiful lake overlooked my steep rocky formations on the east side. The La Tuque subdivision profile is mostly that of a steady, slow climb, as opposed to the roller coaster profile of the nearby Lac Saint-Jean subdivision. Consist : CN 3171, CN 2870.

An unidentified Prima II locomotive is approaching Meknes, through a mediterranean-like landscape. Only difference: a mosque instead of a church.

After this shot we called it a day and went looking for a place to sleep. We ended up in a beautiful ryad. According to wikipedia, a ryad is a traditional house or palace surrounding a garden. I would definitely go for the palace definition :)
