This shot at Piccadilly Circus is a still from a short video that I took that day and if anyone would like to see the video, it’s here:

The BoBo in passenger operations have been really reduced a lot with the last change of schedule.

They operate today mainly on the night trains, sometimes in pairs.

11194 looks still good and has still its numbers attached to the side.

There are several tracks available for sledging down the hill. You can reach the start of these tracks by different means, too. For the Preda - Bergün track, a special train takes you up the hill and drops you off at the station of Preda. For reaching the start of the other track, you need to use a lift.

Both means can be seen on this photo: the shuttle to Preda is passing under the lift up the hill. A special construction was built to protect the passing trains from falling ski or sledge materials, and to shield the overhead wires.

The shuttle to Preda is bringing winter sport fans up the hill for another ride down to Bergün.

Once the freight train arrives at it's destination, it is quickly pulled apart and the cars delivered to where they will be unloaded. Swiss railways work very efficiently, no different here: in almost no time the first car was delivered to a local distribution centre.

The day was coming to an end. Our first day along this cargo line was a banger. The unknown country was really fun to travel in, and inviting for more to discover.

Last pictures of the day were shot near Douar El Yssouf, in an attempt to catch a train in the ast rays of sunshine.

With a Sunday market glowing in downtown Teoloyucan, a small town north of Mexico City, Ferrovalle's afternoon Barrientos job cautiously passes southbound on the línea Morelos. This train runs 1-3 times a day and shuttles raw material between a CEMEX quarry at the northern end of Ferrovalle's territory, just north of Huehuetoca, and a cement plant in Barrientos, in the northern suburbs of Mexico City.

In Arzviller you get to see something unusal. The railway line and the canal run right next to each other, and dive under the mountain together, each in their own separate tunnel. I found it a good spot to wait for the first Eurocity to Brussels of that day. Watching the boats go by, and hoping that one would pass at the right time... no luck. The ripples in the water are still witness to the passing of one just before the train came by.

A little bit later, I was treated to a freight train. Check out my blog to see the photo.

From Montreal to Quebec, through the french-speaking part of Canada. Peak autumn colors were past already, autumn was sensory present only by rain and cold. The taillight of a freight that we couldn’t overtake anymore made me decide to defy the weather and wait for another opportunity. Lucky me, the passenger train followed quickly.

Human beings have autopilots when it comes to doing what you really want to do. And so I was able to continue making photos, albeit a bit slower than before. We were expecting a freight train to Samedan and decided to wait for it at Bever station. We also knew from yesterday's observations that the next train from Chur could be hauled by a mighty Ge6/6 II engine. Lucky we were, as in warm sunlight we saw number 707 of the aforementioned class enter the station.

McCarthy Express! After a long trip down the Saint-Maurice subdivision, CN's six-day-a-week Parent-Garneau train is flying south through the village of Sainte-Thècle, QC. Since there was no train from Senneterre the day before, and most of the Parent trafic was woodchips bound for La Tuque, the train's 2 GEVO's are pulling only 9 gondolas loaded with phlogopite (mica) ore from the Lac Letondal mine near the station of McCarthy, around mile 106 of the Saint-Maurice subdivision. The mineral is processed at a plant in Boucherville, QC, and is used as a vibration damping agent for plastics. Consist : CN 3829, CN 2967.

The trains on the line to Marrakesh were interesting, however not the purpose of our trip here. So, back in the car through the Moroccon heat. Luckily, the car was equipped with an ARKO system (Alle Ramen Kunnen Open - all windows open).

Totally sweaty we stopped in front of the closed level crossing. I had barely enough time to get the camera out, point and shoot, as the first phosphate train of the vacation approached at full speed.

In our search of sunlight and snow, we ended back up on the north side of the Gotthard pass. The viaduct at Amsteg would get some of the latest winter light. It is located high above the small town. When the train exits a tunnel it enters the bridge immediately. Check out this alternative view: it shows it more clearly, from the other side. For this take we got some more sunlight than the year before, and a bus that passed accidentily at the right time. Also check out the other cargo we got down here.

Last year’s summer vacation was spent partly in the utmost south of France, in the canton of la Côte Vermeille. It was a family holiday so I didn’t spend too much time chasing trains, however on 2 mornings I got myself out of bed early enough to catch some interesting traffic. The region is splendid in many ways, so I consider this as only a discovery. More time will be needed to discover it in more detail.

First morning, I was hoping for some freight, but had to settle with only passenger trains. No freight, alas, but a very interesting train was heading south. During a family trip to Collioure, from the corner of my eye, I had seen a viewpoint that raised my interest. This was the perfect time to try it. And yes, the view was great. The town in the middle is Argelès, with the tower of the Notre-Dame del Prat church taking a prominent place. The beach on the right is the Plage du Racou, a nice sandy beach next to a village characterized by its sand alleys between the houses. A pleasure to stroll through.

My location was pretty exposed to the wind blowing from the mountains. My tripod was a necessary tool to get below picture of the night train to Cerbère. It is hauled by locomotive 7399 in original Béton livery, without any modern SNCF logo. Without a doubt it’s one of the most beautiful locomotives of this series still running around.

The two year old son of our members admires our beauty in Baden.

Next stop: the station of Horna Stubna. Research showed that a freight train could be arriving, hauled by 3 Bardotka locomotives. Upon arrival, I knew I as right... but only caught the 3 loose engines heading back to Zilina. Tough luck. Upside is that I met 2 local photographers, who were so kind to show me around. They know the region and the traffic very well, and brought us right on time to some nice spots to see the train. And they knew when the freigh trains would be coming.

Notice the Fatra - not Tatra - mountains in the background.
