Made from scratch, not a bread machine... the recipe handed down to my mother from my grandmother, then to me. Minus the lard they used, I use olive oil as my shortening.
50/50 whole wheat/white flour.
Sure makes the kitchen warm and with a wonderful aroma, baking bread on a cold winter day.
Macro Mondays 'Bread' theme.
I also took some photos of this bread with butter and honey but I went with this one for the group as Janet asked us to focus more on the bread.
The bread and honey shot.
This is part of a small wedge of bread cut from a pumpernickel roll. I forgot to measure it but estimate this at no more than 3 cm width
Been away from my cameras and from Flickr for a spell. Diving back in with a quick iPhone shot from late summer that I'd forgotten about. Late afternoon on City Hall Plaza just after I voted early at Boston City Hall in the MA primary (as I would be out of town on election day). The Custom House Tower is peeking out in the background, sandwiched between the Brutalist City Hall and the pair of 1960s-1970s era office towers on the right (28 State St., 1969, and 60 State St., 1977).
p.s. "bread and butter."
UPDATE: This made Explore for November 14, 2025. Thanks Flickr! Always an honor.
Flickr Friday theme: Daily Bread.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊
Bread,
you rise
from flour,
water
and fire.
Dense or light,
flattened or round,
you duplicate
the mother's
rounded womb,
and earth's
twice-yearly
swelling.
How simple
you are, bread,
and how profound!
You line up
on the baker's
powdered trays
like silverware or plates
or pieces of paper
and suddenly
life washes
over you,
there's the joining of seed
and fire,
and you're growing, growing
all at once
like
hips, mouths, breasts,
mounds of earth,
or people's lives.
The temperature rises, you're overwhelmed
by fullness, the roar
of fertility,
and suddenly
your golden color is fixed.

Herring Gull catching bread that was being thrown in the air by people here who like to feed the gulls. Makes good practice for flight shots.
Because I absolutely love bread.
Probably not the first and certainly not the last pic of bread I post

My favorite perfume bottle (not necessarily fragrance) makes yet another appearance. This isn't the most glamorous set-up; I just placed it on top of my kitchen counter.
There was a big hole in the sliced bread. The shape looks like the body builder show off his biceps. XD
HMM♪
I learned my cat doesn't like low-fat brie...but then, who does? At least it kept him from investigating my set.
Lake Street

A glimpse of nostalgia with a vintage bread truck from the 1940s, rusting on a street corner in Fulton, Kentucky. The GMC truck, with its aged metal body, evokes a sense of nostalgia and a bygone era. The rust on the truck is a reminder of its long service, and the patina of the metal speaks to its history. The High Dynamic Range of the photograph brings out the rich details of the scene, from the texture of the rust to the faded lettering on the truck.

100% Whole Wheat & Whole Rye Bread Recipe - sourdough version Recipe: www.chainbaker.com/whole-wheat-loaf/
This Rustic Sourdough bread, made by my wife has just come out of the oven and if we had sound, you would hear it crackling. Cant wait for lunch, with some strong cheese, tomatoe and onion, MMMMM....
found this tiny plastic sandwich miniature 1" square (from Japan) and posed it on a Japanese magazine cover. Macro Mondays: this week's theme: 'bread'. HMM!
HMM (possibility)...the theme for macromondays for 5/13 is "a spoonful" and one must stay within the parameters of size while still showing at least a portion of the bowl of the spoon and the contents. if i decide to go with this one, i may crop it down just a little, although it is under 3 inches in all directions. the theme's explanation can be found here:

when i spotted this tray of bead pudding, i was immediately transported back to a memory of my dad who had this story/joke that he never really finished telling because it would crack him up every time he tried ~grin~

this weeks macro monday theme was bread. als I am in Paris right now it was clear for me to take a picture of baguette. but of course last friday changed...my feelings, the atmosphere, maybe Paris. this sign, created by Jean Jullien, says much to me. my hope is that from here and now we can start living peace.
