Please mark your calendars for our cleanup of the Historic Bread and Cheese Creek on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Rain or Shine, we clean up the section of Historic Bread and Cheese Creek from the Berkshire Area to North Point Road. Registration will be at 2408 Plainfield Road, Dundalk, MD 21222. This event will be run in conjunction with the Ocean Conservancies annual International Coastal Cleanup and American River’s Nation River Cleanup as well as Day to Serve and National Public Lands Day! We have also attached an event flyer for your use.
We run our cleanups as a family event with plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We welcome every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the cleanup. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we need people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to help at registration, setup food and snacks as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. We will provide lunch and snacks as well as gloves. A limited number of tools are available for sign-out, but suggest bringing your own if you have them
Volunteers are also needed to arrive early and stay late for setup and break down. Photographers and Videographers also needed!
As a cook, I find there's little that's more satisfying than holding a loaf of my own bread in my hands. (The one thing that is more satisfying: eating a slice of it with lots of butter.) Goldstein's recipe for buckwheat bread yielded two cute, round loaves like little warm cats. Making them took more time than it did effort; I had to make a sponge of flour, water and yeast the night before, but after that, mixing everything together and kneading it was a simple, pleasant activity on a Saturday morning.
The taste of buckwheat is as distinctive as it is difficult to describe. There's definitely a tangy quality to it, almost like that of a sourdough bread. It makes for great toast, which is how I'll be eating it for the next few days.
The bread bowls that Rika baked were filled with yummy chicken mushroom stew, which she cooked as filling from scratch. She was inspired by a similar stew she ate at The soup spoon, Raffles shopping centre.

So, I finally made the leap and got a digital camera, a Fuji Fine Pix E900. A camera that I had heard nothing but good things about, Consumer Reports even gave it their highest rating. So after months of hemming and hawing and doing reserch I go to B&H yesterday and spend $400 (including 'accesories') and buy the damn thing.
I then take it home and start playing with it and as I'm looking at the playback, I notice all this noise, these weird lines across the screen, like I took a picture of a TV screen. It appears I got a lemon. Just a random crap. So, tomorrow the call to Fuji will take place (they're closed now) and goddamn they better give me a new camera.
And it's even more frustrating, because you can tell how close it is to giving you a really great image. Sigh.
