This rock formation is part of the Piedra Lumbre (Spanish, "Shining Rock") Land Grant near Abiquiu, NM, USA. If one could see through this formation, you would see the Pedernal Peak made famous by Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings. I've always found this area of New Mexico to have fascinating geology. The rocks certainly appeared to be "Shining" as the sun set the evening I made this capture.

One more photo taken on the tulip fields. They are lovely and colourful and a joy to visit on a sunny day but the tulip season will soon be over and as these are cutflower fields several rows are empty now. On these fields people can pick the flowers they like and pay the money they owe into a wooden cashbox at the entrance of the fields. Usually nobody checks if everyone really pays (I doubt it), but in general the system seems to work.

Happy Birthday to me...

I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light

It was the hottest day and I slipped into a loose floral top with a miniskirt to keep cool.

The wonderful Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon just after the rain stopped.

And one of the very nicest things about birthday is how we celebrate with wonderful friends, great food and laughter!

As we observe your birthday today,

Your cake and gifts don't matter much.

These common things aren't really you,

Ribbons, paper hats and such.

We celebrate a person who

Brings happiness to everyone,

Someone who gives more than she gets,

And fills our lives with joy and fun.

So Happy Birthday, and many more!

We hope you make it to a hundred and two,

Because we always want to have

The special pleasure of knowing you.

Happy birthday, Virgie !!

Rio Grande's Salina Local has just pulled into Provo, Utah the afternoon of Dec. 12, 1976. GP40-2s No. 3121 and 3112 have classic orange and silver single stripe caboose 01482 spotted in front of the yard office while the conductor consults with the trainmaster. Meanwhile, a westbound manifest freight sails by with 'Action Road' caboose 01444 on the tail end.

Today is the first day of NAIDOC week

In the city there was a gathering with lots of speeches and musical entertainment to gather support for the ‘Vote Yes’ campaign for the referendum later this year to actually give the indigenous people of this country a voice in Parliament. Amazing that this still has to happen!!! Hoping for an overwhelming ‘Yes’ vote of course.

NAIDOC Week (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) occurs annually in July, and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What is the Voice to Parliament?

The Voice would provide permanent representation and recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Constitution.

It would be a new body that represents First Nations people from across Australia to provide their input into federal government, decisions, policies and laws that affect their lives.

This would be on matters relating to the social, spiritual and economic wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Voice would be an advisory body, but it would not have powers to overrule parliament, commonly known as "veto" powers

The SOO 1003 makes its one and only photo runby at Swan Road, which thankfully went off without a hitch. The night before, a truck had gotten stuck on the crossing, delaying the ferry move, and there had been some concern as to how it would effect things for the charter. As it happens, the truck was freed, and the charter would go on as planned. Good thing we didn’t have to miss any smoke shows!

The final shot of the day from my trip to Worbarrow Bay with Pete (Coolcats100). Rushed down to the waters edge to try and get one last shot before the light completely went.

Seems to be a hard life for a tree out here..

It is a rare occasion for me to manage to capture a photo of a bird that is one of the more ubiquitous Australian native types that are quite common in our area. When we were down at Tinchi Tamba Wetlands a few weeks ago, I spotted these little beauties flirting around in the undergrowth. No hope of catching one I thought but, amazingly I did although it really needed some cropping to get in tighter. It was quite a way into the scrub.

Thanks to my Flickr friends who identified this little one as a Red-Browed Finch.
