‘..in a world where bad things happen – and they do. They always happen to me...’

Toyah — young, vulnerable and in care — protects herself with her spitfire tongue, but her world is rapidly crumbling; Ally is the ‘golden girl’ but behind a perfect façade lies a mess of confusion, sex and loss; young runaway Jay, meanwhile, has finally found the care he craves in the arms of a stranger — but what price will he have to pay?

Stirring movement, music and words combine to confront the difficult and complex realities surrounding child sexual exploitation, exploring the subject with sensitivity, empathy and insight.

From 1991 to 2003, U.S. intelligence agencies used Lockheed's Image Data Exploitation (IDEX II) system to analyze digital imagery returned from photoreconnaissance satellites and aircraft. Compared to analyzing images on film, the IDEX systems permitted the enhancement of imagery to achieve more complete and precise analyses. they also made the storage, retrieval, and dissemination of imagery much easier and quicker.

A color monitor is on the left, and a high-resolution black-and-white monitor is on the right. The goggles enabled the imagery analyst to view in 3-D. A three-button mouse is next to the goggles.

July 20, 2016--New York City-- Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that the Task Force to Combat Worker Exploitation has directed 1,547 businesses to pay nearly $4 million in back wages and damages to more than 7,500 workers since its inception in July 2015. The Governor also announced several initiatives to improve worker health and safety, including a multi-agency investigation into the exploitation of dry cleaning workers and a coordinated effort to ban harmful chemicals, such as perchlorethylene (PERC), that are commonly used in the industry. Additionally, the state will launch a new $5 million grant program and RFP for non-profit organizations to expand services to help exploited workers. (Don Pollard/Office of the Governor)

Turning the tables on and protesting against the use of animals in cosmetic experiments...

Dr.Katz, has placed Shelly in a metal vice, her face and torso is scarred by burns from the chemicals housed in the cannisters on the right.

An electrode has been placed in her brain and can be seen on the outside of her head.

Blood from countless experiments seeps through the cracks in the paintwork.

Dr. Katz's work is observed by a rat, ladybird and a spider-cow.

A human skull lies discarded in the left corner of the room... it glows in the dark due to the radiation, it was subjected to when once part of a living being.

The work is housed in an MDF box.

The vice is made out of a rescued piece of metal and ceramic work, thrown away by one of my college classmates.

The ladybird and spider-cow (possibily a cake-decoration) were found in the street!

The ceramic cat I used for this piece, was found in the garden of an empty house, and as it had childhood memories for me, was quickly pocketed, taken home, cleaned up and kept safe until I could think of something to use it for.

The ceramic cat, was once part of a kitsch glass bowl ornament, (My Great-Uncle had one of these, which as a child I loved; the bowl was red and had a little ceramic mouse inside, which looked up at 2 ceramic cats, which were perched on either side of the exterior of the bowl -looking in at it.)

Anti-trafficking efforts require community level partnerships to tackle child exploitation and County Lines. A collaborative project with children at risk of exploitation engaged them directly in prevention work. Drawing on their lived experiences, children created a large mural using street art, to show pull factors and the reality of the dangers when trapped in exploitation.

This innovative research centres on empowering vulnerable young people, to take direct action at community and wider levels. The young people’s Action Group are presenting their work in schools to support other children at risk, partnering with a charity Escapeline. Participative Action Research enables young people to gain confidence, public engagement skills and inspiration for change, “I want to raise awareness because no one should go through what I did” (Mae). The Action Group have secured a space with senior stakeholders at the Anti-Slavery Partnership Board to promote young people’s voice in anti-trafficking work.

I decided to document the stages of my exploits for the repair of the wonders. I hope someone does it profit in the future:)

The whole will be documented and included will be photographs and translations of individual actions.

As already accumulates a little of this, I bet it suitable topic.

Currently I have to learn the operation of the system, because of Class A section is unfortunately not activated after power-up. I also have to watch more precisely power supply. I bought already capacitors: ELNA, RJH series. I will write again soon:)

I've been intrigued by the idea of the '365 project' for a while now but after reading the exploits of a couple of my contact friends who've just finished theirs, I thought I'd attempt it, too. I say 'attempt' because long term projects like this aren't my particular thing, I can be fickle with subject and genre, the 'butterfly syndrome' as my partner and my brother both describe it. Still, I like a challenge, and trying to take a shot a day is certainly that. Whether it's possible for me to do it will be tested most during autumn and winter when I only have an half hour lunch break at work but, onwards and upwards, eh!

The many and varied reactions that can be elicited from a simple image be it a photograph, painting, etching or whatever has always fascinated me. Take the image above, it came about because when I took the decision yesterday to go for the 365 (actually, it's 366 because 2012 is a leap year, hmm, talk about bad timing!) I was stuck indoors with rain coming down outside like a storm of spears, so my options for producing my very first 366 shot were extremely limited. Then I got to thinking about earlier that morning when I awoke to my 7.00am alarm trilling away beside me. I'd rolled over onto my back with the hope in my heart that it was going to be a lovely, light filled morning, instead, the rain was battering the loft windows against a brightening canopy of dull grey cloud. For the next 20 mins or so I just lay there watching for the rain to stop and waiting for the light to come...which was very therapeutic, to be honest. So, using that moment as my inspiration I set the scene up, switched off the side lights and used the spotlight above my bed as the main source of light...thank god I bought a remote release with an extension cord, there was no way I could get into bed before the 10 second delay was up. After six or more attempts I finally captured an image that was close to my original idea, which you now see above. (Just in case anyone thinks I sleep in a tomb, my bedroom is in reality very bright, airy and minimalist, the walls are a lovely sandy, terracotta-ish orange with 'Stone cream' ceiling and cream carpet, with lots of natural wood furniture..hmmm...I think I'm overcompensating, better stop now!)

The really interesting part of the whole process was, as I said earlier, people's reactions to the final image. When my mother saw it she freaked, "Oh, my god, that's terrible! You look dead! You could be on your death bed at a wake! Take it down! etc, etc", others have remarked similar things including, "You doing a vampire thing here or what?"...all very interesting to hear. I agree with their observations, it'd be disingenuous of me if I didn't, but it could also have spiritual connotations, too, even the title lends itself to that interpretation. Personally, and for all its potentially dark and morbid vibe, I think it's quite an apt and positive image for the time of year, after all this is the 'dark time', the time when the sun is at its lowest, when night and shadows rule and death seems ever present but, out of that darkness comes light and life, the cycle continues, we change and grow.

The main reason I finally bit the 366 bullet is because of the lack of photography I did last year due to naff weather, illness, work etc. My thinking here is that by being under the self-imposed constraints of producing an image for 366 then I'll not only be maximising time with my camera but also I'll be pushing myself, my skills and my imagination out of their comfort zones when I can't get into the countryside or up on to the hills etc. Some people have themes for their 365(6) but with me it'll be whatever catches my eye, imagination or what I can squeeze into the time I have, 'spontaneous' and 'contrived' will be my bywords. It'll be interesting to see how long this 366 lasts, probably a week knowing me...and hopefully without as much writing as I've done for this one...or "utter twaddle" as some well-meaning friends have put it! :-)

Oh yes, excuse the dark and contrasty images I'm posting of late but I'm thoroughly enjoying being unleashed upon CS5 and Photo Tools 2.6 (awesome set of filters!), I'm finally getting to create images similar to the ones I did in the Ye Olde Days when I used Tri-X and FP4 film.

...and this looks better in L (which is where my mother would love to consign the image above, "It's horrible, our Anthony!")....mothers, eh!

Melle was known already during Roman times, when silver and lead were mined here. The silver mines were exploited over hundreds of years, got forgotten and "rediscovered" in the 19th century. Today they are a tourist attraction. Melle was wealthy and the pilgrims, walking the Via Turonensis, passed through Melle on their way to Santiago, what brought even more money into town.

Churches were erected during the heydays of the pilgrimage- and three (!) Romanesque churches can still be found here.

Saint-Hilaire de Melle was the church of a priory, a dependency of the important Benedictian abbey in Saint-Jean-d’Angély. It was built on the bank of the Beronne river. The eastern part were built in the first half of the 12th century, while the nave and the western portals may be some decades younger.

There are more than 200 carved capitals alone in- and outside this church. they are done by different carvers or studios in a large variety of qualities.

Here are corbels from the higher area of the western facade. Inbetween a "floating" woman. The carving is a bit weathered, but the long, combed hair can still be seen.

In 1862, a trading port was opened in Danshuei. In the meantime, the resources in the mountain area near Dasi were rapidly exploited and tea and camphor became the main exporting products. Furthermore, city streets including Sin Street, Caodianwei Street and Houwei Street were developed at the same time. In 1886, Mingchuan Liu established an administration office to undertake full responsibility for development which boosted the prosperity of Dasi street region and gave birth to Sinnan Street (now Jhongshan Road).

The early years of the colonial rule of Taiwan were the prime time of Dasi. In those years, the resources near the mountain region continued to be exploited and the life in the stores and wine houses on the streets of Dasi was hurly-burly. A city restructuring plan to expand roads and add arcades was announced in 1912 and therefore splendidly decorated archways mushroomed one by one.

As the excavation of Taoyuan Ditch in 1928 had quite an impact on the river transport of Dahan Stream, Dasi lost its position as an industry center and ceased to develop. Accordingly, to date Dasi old streets have been able to remain as they were in the old days.

THE GOAL OF MODERN ARCHITECTURE? TO BROADEN HORIZONS. Expand space. This was the categorical imperative underpinning the creation of Azimut 75. The end result? Unprecedented liveability, commonly the exclusive province of larger yachts.

The flybridge, for example, runs from midship to stern, covering the entire cockpit. The furnishings follow the flowing forms of the sofas, creating various areas in which to relax. The electrically operated bimini top is incorporated in a dynamic fibreglass structure, allowing you to play with the light to its best advantage and create more or less shade, whatever the use. Functionality, of course, is unparalleled, with the large table, bar and grill making a special contribution.

SUNBATHING? IT'S EVEN MORE COMFORTABLE TODAY WITH HEADRESTS AND AN ADJUSTABLE BIMINI TOP TO PROVIDE SHADE IN THE BOW AREA TOO. The flybridge helm station combines comfort with unparalleled functionality, featuring adjustable height seats and an intercom system to communicate with the bow area, cockpit and engine room for easier manoeuvring.

Created to adapt to any occasion throughout the day, the flybridge offers copious seating for afternoons spent in the sun, plus two convenient cocktail tables which join in the evening to become a spacious table seating ten. An aerial view of the flybridge with its two sun lounging areas: one next to the helm station and the other midships.

MULTI-PURPOSE SPACES FOR ECLECTIC SPIRITS.

THE OUTDOOR DINING AREA CONVERTS INTO A SPACIOUS LOUNGING PAD. Furniture which transforms to vary your cruise setting constantly. This is the approach adopted by the designers of Azimut 75 for the cockpit. From a sea terrace dining area, complete with table and comfortable sofas, it becomes a spacious sun pad designed to mirror the broad expanse of the horizon. Transformation and design for eclectic spirits who like to personalise their living spaces in constantly changing ways as the day passes.

OPEN SEA OR DRY LAND? ON AZIMUT 75 OPPOSITES UNITE.

It's called Azimut 75. But when you go aboard you'll find that “floating home” comes more naturally. Why? Just make yourselves comfortable in the living area. The finely understated interior design creates an extremely sophisticated environment that draws on the contemporary loft space for its inspiration. A close eye for detail and skilfully contrasting materials convey an especially modern aesthetic: cream coloured natural fabric and black leather for the sofas, wood and crystal for the dinette table and rectangular geometrical inlays for the other furniture. Which is why, when you look through the large windows, you'll be even more surprised to see the sea slip past outside.

The helm station occupies almost the entire width of the yacht, featuring a control panel incorporating touch screen technology. Skilful optimisation of the design also frees up space for a sofa and a large work table. The helm station is separated from the living area by rice paper panels to allow the light to filter freely through.

Your travelling companions on Azimut 75 won't only be your guests, but the sea and light you can always see through the large windows.

The wood and steel galley setting can be fitted with a fridge, a freezer, a dishwasher and a waste disposer. It shares a dual purpose unit with the dining area, providing a graceful and fully appointed bar on the living area side, plus a special cabinet to store various accessories on the kitchen side. Fitted sliding panels can be closed to separate the two areas or opened to exploit the full space.

Comfort and sophisticated design, but first and foremost light. Yes, the distinctive features of the owner's suite are the large windows the sunlight can flood through. They allow more light to pass than the portholes they replace, embellishing each and every corner of the suite. Thanks to these large windows you can enjoy a sea view from the lower deck too. Reclining com- fortably on the bed, for example, or sipping a cup of coffee sitting comfortably in the elegant living area on the starboard side, complete with armchairs and a table.

THE SUN. THE MAIN INTERIOR DESIGNER BEHIND

THE VIP SUITE. The comfort continues in the master bathroom, which is fitted with king size hydromassage shower. A close eye for detail combined with sophisticated materials: fine marble for the basin counter top, prestigious doussié wood for the shower grate and flooring. Masterful design optimisation also frees up space for dressing room in the owner's suite.

Twice the comfort in the twin bed cabin too, with the help of multiple under-bed drawers and a spacious wardrobe. All cabins have their own smart and fully appointed personal bathroom, featuring marble finishings and an impressive range of intelligent storage solutions.

A march against the exploitation of and racism toward international students in Australia that the governments (both state and federal) continue to allow to exist. International and Australian students from NSW universities (such as Newcastle, UTS, Macquarie, UNSW and Sydney University) rallied together, marching from Sydney University to UTS and on to NSW Parliament House, asking for the government to intervene and change legislation that allows international students to be taken advantage of.

Some basic rights like abolishing the 20-hour work week limit and providing student travel concessions to international students were demanded in chants and songs. At a deeper level though, the protesters are demanding an end to the systematic racism and exploitation of international students, who are increasingly treated more as a means to profit than as students to educate.

Split Croatia- Pine-clad hills, secluded coves, beaches- Split and the Dalmatian Riviera have been premier destinations on the Adriatic since the days of theRoman Emperors.

In fact, medieval Split was built within and around the palace built for the emperor Diocletian in his retirement.

The charms that entertained Emperors are still evident today. The Dalmatian Riviera offers the traveler a heady blend of natural beauty and fascinating cultural sites.

Diocletian abdicated in 305 A.D . During his reign , the emperor ruthlessly persecuted Christians. Ironically Split’s St. Dominius’ Cathedral occupies his mausoleum.

As far as we know, the original settlers here were Dalmatians tribes, later joined by Greek merchants, who saw the value of the harbor and its proximity to the rich interior. The first Romans stablished a colony nearby at Selona in 78 B.C, taking full advantage of the same features. Selona eventually became the Roman administrative center for Dalmatia, especially after Caesar settled other Italian colonist there. Roman roads and aqueducts were added to exploit the rich mines and farms along the sunny coast.

Diocletian Palace- The heart of old Split is built within and around the sprawling 8.4 acre(3.4 hectare) Palace erected by Diocletians.

Cary Nelson, President of the American Association of University Professors addresses issues of basic living conditions for underpaid "contingent" faculty (adjuncts). He argues for granting tenure for long-term adjuncts and then ending the practice of hiring many adjuncts instead of tenure track faculty.

My old 1984 Alembic Series II "Exploiter" bass. The neck/headstock joint and of course the height-adjustable nut can be seen in profile.

I had this bass built in the summer of 1984. The only options (besides the walnut/maple/purple heart construction) were graphite rods in the neck and a neck shaped like a Rickenbacker 4001 that I'd been very comfortable playing. This is still the most musical bass I've ever owned, but it also weighs so much that it's seen relatively little use.
