Spur of the moment decision to attend ACL 2021. I stayed out of the large crowds. I used panoramic mode for this shot and the guy in the middle (I will call him Peter Bishop) must be from another dimension an alternate universe. Also enjoyed Machine Gun Kelly, Erykah Badu, Skip Marley, Finius, and Miley Cyrus closed out the night.

The 28-Jul-2021 the porticoes of Bologna, my city, have finally become a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Class 47 locomotives Nos. 47593 and 47614 pass through Yatton station with 1Z73, the 16:26 Paignton to Wolverhampton special working on Wednesday 30th June 2021.
I'll confess I did no planning for this one at all, and simply turned up at the last minute to grab a standard shot here. Lazy.
I can now continue to reveal the competing images from the 2021 Sandwich Fair Competition.
These images continue the series from the Sandwich Fair, the biggest and the last county fair in the state of Illinois. Known simply as "The Fair" by locals, it was started in 1888 and is the oldest continually-operated county fair in Illinois as well.
Held the week after Labor Day, the Sandwich Fair can draw tens of thousands of visitors per day and is a photographer's delight.
It is the reason why my photography club, the Sandwich Photographic Society exists. Formed in 1986 to document every aspect of the 100th Sandwich Fair in 1987, SPS is now a Chicago Area Camera Club Association certified club.
SPS sponsors a "Sandwich Fair Challenge" every year a themed photographic competition open to all that consists of 10-15 categories with the only criteria being that all images need to be taken at the current year's Fair. Many of the images featured in this series were taken to fit these categories.
This image is of an antique Mack truck, part of the antique truck, firetruck, and tractor display inside the railroad tracks. (For those who have noticed, yes, "diesel" is spelled wrong. This is intentional. It's part of a joke one of my less-than-spelling-inclined friends did. A fan of Shaquille "Shaq Daddy Diesel" O'Neil, he always misspelled diesel wrong, even going so far as making it part his AOL screen name - Mack Daddy Diesal.)

Seit Dezember 2021 haben wir die beiden Maine Coon Katzen. Ein Geschwisterpaar. Zuerst sollte es nur eine Katze werden aber wir haben es nicht übers Herz gebracht, die beiden zu trennen und wollten auch keine einsame Katze Zuhause. Wenn man die beiden zusammen sieht, weiss man, dass diese Entscheidung richtig war.

Since December 2021 we have these two Maine Coon cats. A pair of siblings. At first it was supposed to be just one cat, but we didn't have the heart to separate the two and didn't want a lonely cat at home. When you see the two together, you know that this decision was the right one.

Delivered in May 2021 to CMA the CMA CGN Trocadero is less than a year old. She is the 4th duel fuelled (LNG and HF oil) vessel for the CMA fleet. She was built in China and is 400 meters long by 62 meters wide. She can hold 23.000 20ft containers and weighs in at 236,583 tonnes. She is a big girl.
Here she is at the end of the day in Dunkirque West Docks undergoing loading.
A summer 2021 holiday in the Peak District was the ideal opportunity to catch up with Hulleys of Baslow in their centenary year.

I caratteristici retoni da pesca che si trovano sulla foce del fiume Arno creano un suggestivo spettacolo, specialmente nei freddi tramonti d'inverno. Lì il tempo si è come fermato, le baracchette a palafitta restano a testimonianza della tradizione dei pescatori pisani: il pesce si vende appena pescato.
The characteristic huge fishing nets (the so-called "retoni") that can be found at the mouth of the Arno river create a suggestive scenario, especially in the cold winter months. It is as if time has come to a standstill, the palafitte huts remain as proof of the tradition of Pisa fishermen: fish is sold fresh.

Following an excellent 'Zoom Presentation' from my local camera club's recent guest speaker on 'Architectural Photography (mainly in Mono) and Post Processing', this inspired me to create this further 'Experimental Mono Collage' of the Grade 1 listed Menai Suspension Bridge which crosses the Menai Strait - linking the Isle of Anglesey (Welsh - Yns Mon) to the North Wales Coast Mainland near Bangor.
All images were shot in colour just before sunset on Wednesday 29th September 2021 using a Polarising Filter. Despite using one of the bridge's stone arches as a shield for the bottom right hand image, the suns' brightness above the 1 mile distant Britannia Rail and Road Bridge, still resulted in a 'Blown Out' sky. This 'Kick Started' my mono conversions. Post processing included 'Over Exposing' the sky to totally eradicate 'Blow Out', with colour and tone adjustments. Minimal work was needed on the other two.
From an ongoing learning perspective, I'd very much welcome your feedback. Thanks.
Now for some detail regarding this 'Iconic Bridge'...
It was designed by Thomas Telford in 1819 - opening in 1826. At the time, it was the world's first major suspension bridge. The original wooden decking was replaced by steel in 1893 and its wrought iron chains similarly between 1938/1940. It's 417m (1,368ft) long, 12m (39ft) wide, with its longest span 176m (577ft), with a clearance of 31m (102ft). When built the site chosen and its construction had to be high enough to allow the safe passage of sailing ships.
Today it still carries the two carriageway A5 Major Road (London to Holyhead). Most traffic now crosses the Menai Strait via the twin carriageway road platform built above the Britannia Rail Bridge.

A shot taken for Saturday Self Challenge 02/01/2021 - A Card for the new year . A card for SSC and also to send new year's greetings to all my flickr friends !!
The task was to create a New Year's Greetings Card and this task fell into four parts -
The Shot

Well first of all we all have to thank J.V.T.
Jonathan Stafford Nguyen Van-Tam MBE (born 1963 or 1964) is a British specialist in influenza, including its epidemiology, transmission, vaccinology, antiviral drugs and pandemic preparedness.
Van-Tam has served as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England since 2 October 2017.
His analogies during the Downing Street briefings have been well known from flights of aeroplanes , journeys of trains , and of course Lights at the End of the Tunnel to describe our journey through the pandemic !!
So I go on the bike to a station with a tunnel within sight of the platform to get a tunnel shot . Back home and process best shot and digital punch in MCS followed by putting it all together and adding text in SerifCraftartist .
Next , me taking the challenge at it's word make an actual greetings card and what you see is another photo of the finished card . In the first comment box you can see the digital version before the card was literally assembled .
And so with this card I will wish all my flickr friends
a Very Happy and Importantly A Safe and Healthy 2021 !!
Oh , nearly forgot " Bledhen Nowydh Da " is the new year greeting in Cornish - spelling may differ according to which dialect you are translating to/from ..

after my ramblings , here is a sight & sound ----
The Lord Of Light .
503 was new to Lothian Buses in 2017 as 503.
She is seen here in Kaimes.
In February 2017, Lothian Buses received new Volvo B5TL bodied Wright Eclipse Gemini 3's for their Airlink services, some of the former Airlink Buses from 2015 were sent to Lothian Buses and surplus were sent to Skylink to operate Services 200, 300 & 400 being repainted into a luxurious Blue and White livery.
With Edinburgh Airport's deal with Lothian Buses, the Airlink fleet must be updated every 2 years. However, in 2021, during the Coronavirus Pandemic, an agreement has suspected to have been extended by 2 years because of the Pandemic.
In July 2019, because of this deal, the batch was sent down to Skylink, to operate the services mentioned above, but unlike 15 plates, these buses did not receive a repaint but rather got Skylink vinyls
In November 2022, 496/7 were both repainted into the Lothian Standard livery following the PVR of Skylink going down after the Lothian Buses September Service Change, which saw the Service 300 being withdrawn.
The Service 200 has always operated in the North of Edinburgh, going from Edinburgh Airport via. Drum Brae, Granton to the Ocean Terminal.

The Service 300 was originally a direct copy of the former 35 route, (Except from Prince's Street and a slight rerouting in Leith) which before Skylink operations started went from the Ocean Terminal to Edinburgh via. Gorgie and The Royal Mile.
After the change above, the 35 retained its route from Ocean Terminal to Broomhouse, then splitting off to Hermiston Park and Ride and then terminating at Heriot-Watt University, this change proved to be very successful.
In July 2018, in an attempt to bump up passenger use and split the route from the 35, Lothian rerouted the service from Old Town to Cameron Toll.
In July 2020, after being withdrawn in March due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the service was reintroduced but instead only going as far as Sturgeon's Hall.
In August 2021, the route was reduced again now terminating at Bread Street, very close to Fountainbridge.
In September 2022, the route was withdrawn after a slow downfall from the hopeful venture launched by Lothian 5 years prior.

The Service 400 has always operated in the South of Edinburgh, this route directly copied the service 18 but was extended to the Airport. The route runs via. Fairmilehead and Colinton.
In March 2020, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the route operated as a normal Lothian service as it was reduced from Edinburgh Airport to the Gyle Centre, and the Fort Kinnaird section was reduced to the Royal Infirmary.
In July 2020, the route returned to its former state from Edinburgh Airport to Fort Kinnaird.

It was not the case of the young Lewa, that felt nothing but excitement when he heard the wind for the first time. He had always wondered what kind of voice the wind could have, but much to his surprise he didn't hear a single spoken word. It was more of a feeling, deep down: he could sense the earth making its will clear to him. It's as if he could feel a gentle breeze underneath his skin, and a feeling of clarity in his mind. It was over in an instant, but Lewa knew his life had completely changed.

I knew L516 may return before dark. I also knew the timing would likely but up against my trip to pick up the kids from school. Both predictions were spot on. Shortly after 17:00 L516 rang up the dispatcher and got a warrant clear through to Owen. When I headed out for the kids I took the camera. As I made my rounds I kept an eye on the ever sinking sun and the clock. A bit of delay at one of my stops quickly ruled out my "Plan A" west of town. The light was fading fast so I had to pin my hopes on a sunset glint shot. I knew the train would be bearing down on us so I bee-lined it to the middle of town. Only a minute ahead of the the arrival I had just enough time to set my exposure and line up the shot. SD40-2s are decidedly rare on the Minneapolis Sub these days so it was worth the effort even though the sunset glint is almost gone as L516 crosses the Willow River. March 5, 2021.

The first daffodil of 2021 (at least in my garden). This is a dwarf variety (the trumpet is less than 1”/25mm long) that is usually grown indoors but these bulbs have been in the garden for a couple of years and despite the bitterly cold weather of the last ten days or so, my eye was drawn yesterday to the small patch of yellow in the border. Let’s hope it is a portent of a better year ahead.
