The people in the front row wearing suits and ties are the FIE (International Fencing Federation) officials. They are elected every 4 years during the olympic year. My brother is one of them. He has been elected 5 terms (21 years) as a member of the FIE committee officer. The SEMI menbers (pink) in the back row are the inspectors of fencing equipment.
Tokyo Olympics took place from July 23 to August 8, 2021. The Paralympics are scheduled to take place August 24 to Sept. 5, 2021. 11,092 athletes have competed in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 33 competetions 339 events, representing 205 countries, with one team made up of refugees.
The Games were held without any paying spectators to guard against COVID-19 infection. That could mean a big financial hit for host city Tokyo, which had wanted to recoup some of the cost of holding the games from ticket sales. Total cost to Tokyo for hosting the 2021 Olympic Games was about 7 billion dollars.
This was the second time the Olympic was held in Tokyo, which previously hosted the Games in 1964. The 1972 and 1998 Winter Games were also hosted by Japan, in Sapporo and Nagano.

Freightliner Class 66/9 No. 66556 passes through the shed at Frome station on the rear of 6Y15, the 16:00 Fairwater Yard – Slough West engineers working on 22nd September 2021. Class 66 No. 66951 was leading the train and it is worth pointing out that non-passenger trains are extremely rare on the Frome station loop.

It looks like this car is out of use for a while.

In winter, Amsterdammers watch the falling thermometer readings with the same focus as people in Aspen and Chamonix. When the temperature drops low enough for long enough, the lakes and the canals in Amsterdam become sparkling highways for the skaters. Little kiosks are set up on the ice to dispense heart-warming liqueurs. I really love this part of our culture. Almost everyone, young or old, likes to skate and is smiling and friendly. The last days the cold was enough for the canals to freeze over a rare occasion. Amsterdammers sharpen their blades and hit the ice. On the 14th of Februari 2021, the first people started skating on the canals of Amsterdam. A lovely view of children skating on the Bloemgracht canal. Who knows times of Hendrick Avercamp are coming back this year. Avercamp was the first Dutch artist to specialize in paintings of winter landscapes featuring people enjoying the ice. Some 400 years on, our image of life in the harsh winters of the Golden Age is still dominated by Avercamp’s ice scenes with their splendid narrative details of couples skating, children pelting each other with snowballs and unwary individuals falling through the ice.

There, many are hoping for further frigid conditions. It is so cold in the Dutch city that some canals have frozen over, turning them into a winter wonderland for skaters. This weekend we could ice skate even on some canals of Amsterdam. We had three fantastic days of skating.
Na 3 jaar konden de Jordanezen eindelijk de ijzers weer onderbinden. Op 14 februari 2021 nog geen ideale condities want je kon nog niet onder alle bruggen schaatsen. Op de Bloemgracht is het ijs net dik genoeg, er kan best aardig geschaatst worden, maar ook op de Keizersgracht. De grachten eindelijk bevroren en de adem komt in kleine grijze pufjes uit mijn mond. Handen op de rug. Rustig ademen. Ik geniet van het geluid van de ijzers over het ijs, sneeuw en een prachtige gezicht op de Amsterdamse grachtenpanden. Wie had dat nu gedacht, schaatsen in februari in Amsterdam. Wie even wegdenkt kan zich vandaag in Hendrick Avercamps wereld wanen. Als eerste Amsterdamse kunstenaar uit de 17de eeuw specialiseerde hij zich in het schilderen van winterlandschappen met ijspret. Ons beeld van het leven in de strenge winters in de Gouden Eeuw wordt na 400 jaar nog altijd bepaald door Avercamps ijsgezichten met prachtige verhalende details van schaatsende paartjes, kinderen die elkaar bekogelen met sneeuwballen of een man die door het ijs zakt. In de middag is er inderdaad Anno 2021 iemand door het ijs gezakt. Morgen gaat het helaas weer dooien. Het waren drie fantastische schaatsdagen in 2021. In times of crisis people reveal their true colours.
Some descend into fear mongering and finger pointing, while others rise to the occasion and step beyond their own petty concerns to embrace the common good.
The Corona Pandemic has exposed things about each of us and our challenge, both collectively and individually, is to step up to the plate and contribute in whatever ways we can. Part of this challenge involves thinking before we act (or post) and consider what we’re achieving.
Railing against the ‘system’, blaming others or spreading absurd misinformation about the origin of this virus achieves nothing positive or practical, except to vent our fears at the expense of others.
If there’s a problem that needs attending, why not suggest viable alternatives and solutions, or better still, roll up our sleeves and help? Why not search for something, anything we can do to make a ‘real’ difference, as opposed to whinging or hiding in our own parallel universe?
Now more than ever we need to think outside ourselves. We need to question our words and actions and locate the courage to own their consequences.
Pain and hardship can be of great value, yet only if we realise a better version of ourselves as a result – only if we rise and leave our dross behind.

A foggy Sunday in the city and a foggy Sunday on a hill don't always mean the same. This time, Japetić peak wasn't just in a fog, it was coasting through a cloud! The temperature was slightly above freezing, there was even snowfall at one moment.

Op dinsdag 1 juni 2021 werd voor het eerst na jaren de Eemshaven weer eens bediend. De zaterdag ervoor werden de wagens geplaatst en deze dag werden ze (beladen?) weer opgehaald. Links op de foto de verzender van de wagens, Wagenborg Stevedoring. Waren een hoop kilometers autorijden voor mij maar dat moest dan maar een keertje. Over treinnummers en bestemmingen tast ik volledig in het duister. De 6417 droeg ooit de naam 'Bob' maar die is op een gegeven moment spoorloos verdwenen. De 6400'en zijn gebouwd tussen 1988 en 1995 en zijn gebaseerd op het stadraadtype DE1002 van MaK. Soms wordt gedacht dat de 6400 een G1206 is maar dat is pertinent onjuist.
Belonging to a local Gear Heads Car Club member, this 1935 Ford Truck with numerous customizations was one of the most interesting vehicles at the Independence Day Car Show at the Putnam County Fairgrounds in Cookeville, Tennessee on July 3rd, 2021. From the checkerboard firewall to the eagle on top of the radiator to the license plate lined interior and sawed-off shot gun gear shifter, this classic truck is worth a few minutes of your time if you get the chance...

On a grey and wet day in North Lincolnshire an October tradition has just started. A ploughing match with classic and vintage (plus a few recent) tractors is spread across a field with competitors aiming to be the best in class for 2021.

The night of the chimeras is a light spectacle in Le Mans. It takes place from July 2nd to September 12th. 2021. Light installations are distributed throughout the old town between the cathedral and the Roman city wall.

Al fondo el Cerro de la Camorra, redondeado. En él se encuentra, un desnivel de 172 metros, la Sima del Tesoro recibe también el nombre de La Camorra debido a que se localiza en ese cerro a una altitud de 990 metros.
Aunque no se tienen noticias de las primeras exploraciones en el lugar, la primera vez que aparece reflejada la sima en los medios de comunicación es cuando, en 1977 , el equipo de rescate del Comité Regional Sur de Espeleología, acudió a la cavidad a rescatar a varios espeleólogos de Málaga y Córdoba. Ese mismo año se dibujó el primer plano topográfico de la sima, realizado por espeleólogos malagueños que descienden por vía directa hasta la cota -172 m.
La sima presenta una serie de verticales con profundidades entre los 9 y los 34 metros intercalados con rampas.

Am 15.10.2021 erwartete uns das übliche "Marschbahn-Wetter" am Hindenburgdamm. Während der frische Wind uns die ganze Zeit um die Ohren pfiff, standen wir abwechselnd mal in der Sonne und wenige Augenblicke später im Regen. Für den IC 2311 sollte das Wetter auf unserer Seite sein und somit konnte hier besagter Zug, gezogen von 218 491 und 218 462, beim erreichen des Festlandes aufgenommen werden.
