01/01/2021; Found another gem created by the Flowerbikeman. Although he is now rather the Flower/Clockbikeman now. :P
It's only a pity that this bike is situated on a bit of a dark spot, with no street lights within a close vicinity. Didn't have my 'real' pocket light with me, and the pocket light in my phone wasn't very helpful. Luckily the blue hour is early enough on the day in this time of the year that there's still plenty of traffic passing by.

Macro Of A Common Wall Lizard | Podarcis Muralis | Monteggio, Ticino | Switzerland, May 2021

ABOUT THIS PHOTO
Viewed up close common wall lizards (Podarcis muralis) are even more impressive, for one because their dinosaur-like appearance becomes even more striking, but even more fascinating to me is how expressive their faces are once you see them in detail: especially if they make eye contact with you.
The way they look at you reminds me of birds or even dogs. In any case, it's hard not to read a certain intelligence into to those lizard eyes, as you can judge for yourself from the photo above.
They are very territorial animals, and after a week of photo safari through the garden at my vacation home I usually know how these little lizard kings have divided up the "turf", and which part of "my" garden (because let's be honest here: I'm just a tolerated guest at best) belongs to whom.
The little guy in the photo looking at me with such a wary eye currently lords over a big rock right opposite the front door of my house. This means that every time I come out of the house, I interfere with whatever lizard activities he's up to, which at first made him dive to safety every time that door opened.
But lizards adapt pretty quickly; it took him a couple of days to figure out the weird creature coming out of that house with his strange apparatus wasn't a threat, and once that was established, he mostly stayed put - unless I opened the door too quickly - and opted for a veeeery critical look instead (which made for some funny photos ;-)
ABOUT THE SPECIES
From Wikipedia (slightly abbreviated by me): The podarcis muralis (common wall lizard) is a species of lizard with a large distribution in Europe and well-established introduced populations in North America where it is also called the European wall lizard. It can grow to about 20 cm (7.9 in) in total length.
Description:
The common wall lizard is a small, thin lizard whose small scales are highly variable in color and pattern. Its coloration is generally brownish or greyish, and may occasionally be tinged with green. In some individuals, the row of spots along their backs may form a line, while others may have a reticulated pattern with dark spots on the side and scattered white spots that can be blue in the shoulder region.
The tail is brown, grey or rust in color, and may also have light bars on the sides. The belly region has six rows of larger rectangular scales that are generally reddish, pink, or orangish. Common wall lizards may also have dark markings on the throat.
This lizard has six distinct morphological forms which are identified by the coloration of its throat and underbelly. Three of these are pure morphs consisting only of solid colours on their scales: white, red (orange) or yellow, and three other morphs are distinguished by a combination of colors: white-yellow, white-red and yellow-red.
Ecology:
These lizards prefer rocky environments, including urban settings, where they can scurry between rock, rubble, debris and buildings. In the southern part of their range they tend to occur in humid or semi-humid habitats, compared to drier habitats in the north.
Distribution:
The natural range of the species spans much of the mainland Europe except from the north and very south and extends to Turkey. It occurs as introduced populations in southern Britain where one such population in the seaside town of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight has become somewhat famous, and also in North America. There has been some scientific debate as to whether the populations in Southern England represent the northern edge of their native range.
Podarcis muralis has been introduced in the United States and is spreading throughout the Cincinnati metropolitan area. It is commonly observed living in limestone outcrops, rock walls, and rubble along the Ohio River basin (it is now considered a naturalized species by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and is protected under state law).
The lizard is also present in Los Angeles and San Diego counties in California and may exist elsewhere in California. The species was also introduced to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

My 40th EXPLORE on Flickr. Thank You!
May 26th, 2021
So it didn’t really FEEL like my last day at work. But it was! And amongst all the feelings, relief is the biggest.
This last week I’d been feeling sad about leaving all my friends and I kind of forgot all the negative feelings and reasons I wanted to leave in the first place. WELL, I remember. And I’m SO happy to be done.
Okay GUYS. I’ve had bad eyesight since I was 8. So, 20 years. That’s a lot of eye exams and LET ME TELL YOU. Not one of those appointments was shorter than an hour. I ALWAYS had to get my eyes dilated, which resulted in ocular migraines the last two times. So to say I was dreading my eye exam today? Understatement. I went to a different place, the MyEyeDr chain. My usual office couldn’t get me in for months and I was annoyed so I figured why not check it out. Not only was my optometrist former patient, which was delightful. I ALSO did not have to get dilated bc they have a fancy machine that can just take pictures of my eyeballs. 10/10 amazing experience!
The love of my life Urdis and I went out to dinner to celebrate my last day of work! Consiglio’s, our fave. So the first time we went our waitress was AN ICON. We miss her terribly. Her name was Shelby and we haven’t seen her in over a year. But SUE??? Runner up, #2. We are obsessed. She was great. Since we’re obsessed with the place overall, we made it a point to tell the owner we love her and her restaurant. So we’re expecting our adoption papers soon.
Het bleef weer even stil.
[EN] Since spring 2021, Rail Force One and ITL Deutschland started a new experimental traffic between Rotterdam Maasvlakte and Ostrava-Kunčice. The train is loaded at the EMO terminal. First, the train was pulled by a modern multisystem locomotive over the entire route in the Netherlands. However, after a few roundtrips, a good old Class 1800 locomotive became in charge of this coal train between Rotterdam and Bad Bentheim. Luckily for me, the train was diverted via my hometown due to track works elsewhere. Rail Force One 1829, meanwhile almost 40 years old, pulls the heavy coal train through Ede-Wageningen station (still visible in the background). Back then, when this locomotive was still in service for the national railways, it carried the name ‘Ede’.

Gare du Nord (or Paris Nord) is one of the six large terminus stations of the SNCF mainline network for Paris, France. Located not far from Gare de l'Est in the 10th arrondissement, the Gare du Nord offers connections with several urban transport lines, including Paris Métro, RER and Buses. By the number of travellers, at around 190 million per year, it is the busiest railway station in Europe and the busiest in the world outside Japan.
The Gare du Nord is the station for trains to Northern France and to international destinations in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The station complex was designed by the French architect Jacques Hittorff and built between 1861 and 1864.

We enjoyed the beautiful day on Valentine's Day walking along Lakeshore and I was happy to see some swans and ducks enjoying themselves as well. It was a bit cold but I did not mind it all as I'm just so happy to be able to go out again after my isolation period. Not too many people so distancing was not a problem at all.
Have a beautiful Wednesday!💝

The Cathedral of Justo is a building of large proportions, reminiscent of a great Christian Cathedral, situated in Mejorada del Campo (Madrid, Spain). It is being built by one man, Justo Gallego Martínez. He began to build in on a site owned by his family on October 12, 1961, after being expelled from the cirtesciense monastery to be ill with tuberculosis. At the time of healing, decided to thank them for God and the Virgin with the construction of this work. Little by little, using family wealth available, selling their land and private donations it still kicking up its Cathedral.
Just take almost 50 years building his impressive work, and with the exception of some sporadic aid, all just made it. What is more surprising is that this man is not architect or Mason, nor has any training related to construction. Its formation was interrupted with the outbreak of the Civil War. In addition there are no plans or official project of the Cathedral, everything is in your head.
It is a building with notable architectural elements. Although its constructor called a cathedral, and it is well known, in fact it is not a temple to be consecrated nor be recognized as such by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Alcalá de Henares.
The natives of the Mejorada del Campo know the work as 'the Cathedral of the mad'. Since 50 years fair is martilleando, hormigonando or raising walls from the morning until sunset. This extraordinary and unique work made famous the small village 20 km from Madrid. In 2005 a publicity campaign for the 'aquarius' drink gave universal fame to fair and its Cathedral. The Museum of modern art in New York devoted an exhibition of photos to this original sacred work.
the Catedral Catedral of fair, side view.It occupies an area of 4.740 square metres worth 1.170.000 euros. So far, the Cathedral measures 35 meters high calculated from height of the ground floor level to the height of Coronation of the dome. The two towers measuring 60 meters in length and have a width of 25 meters. Account with all the elements of a classical Cathedral: crypt, cloister, steps, arches, arcades, spiral staircases, and so on. This colossal work is dedicated to the patron saint of Hispanic Heritage, the Virgin of the pillar, and is built with materials donated by individuals and businesses. Most of the building materials used by don Justo are recycled. It uses both objects of daily life as materials discarded by construction companies and a nearby brick factory. To make the columns used old petrol drums such as moulds, to the pillars usa cans of Cola Cao filled concrete and serves as a bicycle wheel pulley.
[edit] The interiorVista towards the nave of the epístolaCabe highlight its major plant, three naves. The central is wider that the others, according to the basic scheme of a cathedral. All of them are covered with barrel vaults, which currently under construction for what could be the way of realizing them, with curved wire and concrete. To make the roofs, fair used a light, by way of gravel material currently used with concrete in contemporary construction to give more lightness to the buildings. Likewise, the nave has a clerestory and probably a future forum that around the entire surface to be able to access the perimeter at that height. The header is organized in a large apse where the altar is placed. On the outside we can see lateral apses and towers. In the central part of the Cathedral, stands the dome on pendentives. The cover was made with overlapping sheets, as well as the Middle vault of the nave. The walls are carved so that it penetrates the light, in connection with the medieval idea of relating to Christ with the light. All of them were decorated with stained glass Windows.
[edit] The courtyard InteriorHormigón, wires, irons.... arranged in a special way to give different ways. It seems all too well done by a man. One of the most surprising things are the building blocks. You can see all the Cathedral the bricks "older", those who are below, are in an irregular manner and linked with each other almost as in the game of "tetris". These bricks, defective, picked up the fair in a nearby factory that desechaba.
The cúpula Sin question is the most impressive of all over the place, if we bear in mind that a man has made only and without help. You can see very well from a privileged area of the previous courtyard.
There are a lot of busts that decorate the top of the Cathedral, next to the dome that much resemble the sculptures that were put in the Renaissance buildings.
The Cathedral good criptaComo has a crypt accessible both by the main interior courtyard through a side door. Nonetheless be curious to find something like this. Not in vain, we think that the good fair did nothing more and nothing less than three levels of building, with all the difficulty that this entails. In the altar principal see even a can of Aquarius, very appropriate there.
The wing derecha Existen many more photos of the right wing and the bottom of the main staircase. You can see many columns that are completely handmade. With the large cylindrical buckets of paint, just fills them with concrete to give the desired shape and leaving them to dry out the blocks and unites them with irons and cables.
The railings and some unions are made with iron work that seem to have been unfolded to collect landfill, together with concrete and surrounded by pieces of cable of electricity or any pieces of rubber.
In this part of the ground can be found several curious landmarks. For example, a used warehouse, coated in several ships to double slope, as a sea of sheet metal.
If we know the biography of fair, we can guess that it might be a poultry or even a barn, in his original House has these dependencies and their plant would pay. It is a square, large and clear, so it could well be place of cattle, straw or wood for the cold.
There are also other much less built units to their side. One of them was the resting place of his summer assistants, and after it, is a trail of stones for access to the main gate.

Little Blue Heron
The Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea) is a small heron. It breeds in the Gulf States of the US, through Central America and the Caribbean south to Peru and Uruguay. It is a resident breeder in most of its range, but some northern breeders migrate to the Southeastern US or beyond in winter.

My wife surprised me with a trip to Yosemite Valley to take some winter photos. Yosemite is one of the largest and least fragmented habitat blocks in the Sierra Nevada, and the park supports a diversity of plants and animals. The park has an elevation range from 2,127 to 13,114 feet (648 to 3,997 m) and contains five major vegetation zones: chaparral and oak woodland, lower montane forest, upper montane forest, subalpine zone, and alpine. Of California's 7,000 plant species, about 50% occur in the Sierra Nevada and more than 20% are within Yosemite. The park contains suitable habitat for more than 160 rare plants, with rare local geologic formations and unique soils characterizing the restricted ranges many of these plants occupy.[7]
The geology of the Yosemite area is characterized by granitic rocks and remnants of older rock. About 10 million years ago, the Sierra Nevada was uplifted and then tilted to form its relatively gentle western slopes and the more dramatic eastern slopes. The uplift increased the steepness of stream and river beds, resulting in the formation of deep, narrow canyons. About one million years ago, snow and ice accumulated, forming glaciers at the higher alpine meadows that moved down the river valleys. Ice thickness in Yosemite Valley may have reached 4,000 feet (1,200 m) during the early glacial episode. The downslope movement of the ice masses cut and sculpted the U-shaped valley that attracts so many visitors to its scenic vistas today.[7]
Yosemite was central to the development of the national park idea. Galen Clark and others lobbied to protect Yosemite Valley from development, ultimately leading to President Abraham Lincoln's signing the Yosemite Grant in 1864. John Muir led a successful movement to have Congress establish a larger national park by 1890, one which encompassed the valley and its surrounding mountains and forests, paving the way for the National Park System.[9] Yosemite now draws about four million visitors each year,[10] and most visitors spend the majority of their time in the seven square miles (18 km2) of Yosemite Valley.[7] The park set a visitation record in 2016, surpassing five million visitors for the first time in its history.[11] Wikipedia
