More wabi-sabi and more miscanthus, a genus of grass that grows over much of our back field - the supply may be literally endless - and this is the thirteenth in this series this year. This was a piece of a larger sample that became broken off, and I was struck by its form, so I made a few studies of it; this is the first.
I see these grass studies as abstract, so they are all about the form of the lines about the frame, as well as the texture and color of the leaves of the grasses themselves, and really hardly at all about documenting the flora.
I've recently taken to using a blue background to compliment the yellow-orange color of the grass, rather than a black background. The reasons for this shift, and its utility, are still unclear to me, so I welcome any comment on the topic.
As a multi image focus stack, it should reward pretty close inspection; maximum viewing size on your computer can be found by opening the image in a separate window, making that window full screen, typing the letter "L" on the keyboard, and then clicking the cursor as long as a '+' appears in it, typically twice.
If you find this image to your liking, you can find more wabi-sabi - and an account of my understanding of the meaning of that term - in my wabi-sabi album, and more grasses in my Grasses album.

Santorini is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from the Greek mainland. It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago, which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. It forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands, with an area of approximately 73 km2 (28 sq mi) and a 2011 census population of 15,550. The municipality of Santorini includes the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia, as well as the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi and Christiana.
The island was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history: the Minoan eruption (sometimes called the Thera eruption), which occurred about 3,600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of metres deep. It may have led indirectly to the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, 110 km (68 mi) to the south, through a gigantic tsunami. Another popular theory holds that the Thera eruption is the source of the legend of Atlantis.
It is the most active volcanic centre in the South Aegean Volcanic Arc, though what remains today is chiefly a water-filled caldera. The volcanic arc is approximately 500 km (310 mi) long and 20 to 40 km (12 to 25 mi) wide. The region first became volcanically active around 3-4 million years ago,[citation needed] though volcanism on Thera began around 2 million years ago with the extrusion of dacitic lavas from vents around Akrotiri.
Back in the old, wise days of gardening, they would line the south face of a stone wall with brick because of its heat holding quality - and then they would plant peach trees, or other slightly more tender fruit trees. It is normally the only way we see red brick in the gardens, and these days, almost the only regular growth is ivy!! As our house faces south, we do not see the 2 brick faces that we have, so there is often quite a lot of ivy on them, and of course, ivy is pretty destructive...
