El pont de la Mar o pont del Mar és un pont de València que creua el riu Túria i connecta els barris de Mestalla i el Pla del Remei. Relaciona, doncs, el passeig de l'Albereda amb la plaça d'Amèrica i el passeig de la Ciutadella. És un pont exclusivament per als vianants, i és dels considerats històrics, ja que va ser construït el 1591, després que una riuada destruí l'anterior.El pont és un dels més històrics de la ciutat, i és l'única que se situa a desnivell amb els carrers fitants. Concretament, penja a quatre metres per damunt de les ribes del riu, ja que en construir-se el pont d'Aragó als anys 30, aquest es va peatonalitzar, encarregant-se de les obres l'arquitecte Xavier Goerlich. És, per tant, accessible només a peu, mitjançant una sèrie d'esgraons disposada en forma de ventall al voltant dels dos caps del pont. L'estructura mateixa és feta sencerament de pedra blanca, tallada en rajoles i blocs de grans dimensions que alhora es troben un tant desgastats pel temps.Atès que el pas de cotxes o bicis hi és prohibit, i de fet físicament impossible, sorprèn la gran amplària del pont: al voltant de sis metres i mig. Una altra sorpresa és la posició realtiva al riu: el creua diagonalment, sent doncs més llarg del que és estrictament necessari. És sostingut per una sèrie de nou baluards gruixuts i allargats que fan tot l'ampli del pont. És interessant notar que, tot i que el pont creua el Túria en diagonal, els pilars sobre els quals recolza són orientats en la mateixa direcció del riu i per tant en diagonal de la coberta del pont. A més a més, cada baluard acaba en cada extrem en forma d'una "v" enorme. Aquest motiu és habitual en els ponts medievals perquè, en continuar fins a la part transitable del pont, hi crea un lloc de pas, però en el cas del pont de la Mar, no se’ls aprofita, sinó acaben abans d'arribar a dalt de tot. Per altra banda, l'amplària de la calçada és tant que no caldria en cap cas un lloc de pas. Sembla doncs un element més aviat decoratiu que tanmateix dóna una forma més feixuga al que, d'altra manera, és una estructura bastant esvelta. Aquests nou baluards, que prenen la forma de parets més àmplies que altes, es reparteixen en fila d'Índia al llarg del pont; entre cada un, es produeix un suau arc gòtic amb una punta bastant súbtil. Just a sobre de cadascuna d'aquestes puntes hi ha un desaiguàs. Arran de la pasarel·la, la posició de cada pilar és indicada per una petita esfera de pedra damunt de la barana. Gairebé tots els dies, especialment els caps de setmana, es pot observar escaladors individuals o en grups grimpant un d'aquests pilars, els quals són especialment idonis per a aquesta afició gràcies a la seua superfície foradada, que fa la seua escala practicable sense gaire dificultat.

El puente del Mar es un puente de Valencia que cruza el río Turia y conecta los barrios de Mestalla y el Pla del Remei. Relaciona, pues, el paseo de la Alameda con la plaza de América y el paseo de la Ciudadela. Es un puente exclusivamente peatonal, y es de los considerados históricos, ya que fue construido en 1591, después de que una riada destruyó el anterior. El puente es uno de los más históricos de la ciudad, y es la única que se sitúa a desnivel con las calles acotando. Concretamente, cuelga a cuatro metros por encima de las orillas del río, ya que al construirse el puente de Aragón en los años 30, este se peatonalizar, encargándose de las obras del arquitecto Xavier Goerlich. Es, por tanto, accesible sólo a pie, mediante una serie de escalones dispuesta en forma de abanico alrededor de los dos jefes del puente. La estructura misma está hecha enteramente de piedra blanca, cortada en baldosas y bloques de grandes dimensiones que a su vez se encuentran un tanto desgastados por temps.Atès que el paso de coches o bicis está prohibido, y de hecho físicamente imposible, sorprende la gran anchura del puente: alrededor de seis metros y medio. Otra sorpresa es la posición realtiva al río: lo cruza diagonalmente, siendo pues más largo de lo estrictamente necesario. Es sostenido por una serie de nueve baluartes gruesos y alargados que hacen todo el amplio del puente. Es interesante notar que, aunque el puente cruza el Turia en diagonal, los pilares sobre los que apoya son orientados en la misma dirección del río y por tanto en diagonal de la cubierta del puente. Además, cada baluarte termina en cada extremo en forma de una "v" enorme. Este motivo es habitual en los puentes medievales que, al continuar hasta la parte transitable del puente, hay crea un lugar de paso, pero en el caso del puente del Mar, no se les aprovecha, sino terminan antes de llegar a alto. Por otra parte, la anchura de la calzada es tanto que no habría en ningún caso un lugar de paso. Parece pues un elemento más bien decorativo que, sin embargo da una forma más pesada en el que, de otra manera, es una estructura bastante esbelta. Estos nueve baluartes, que toman la forma de paredes más amplias que altas, se reparten en fila de India a lo largo del puente, entre cada uno, se produce un suave arco gótico con una punta bastante sutil. Justo encima de cada una de estas puntas hay un desaiguàs. A raíz de la pasarela, la posición de cada pilar es indicada por una pequeña esfera de piedra encima de la barandilla. Casi todos los días, especialmente los fines de semana, se puede observar escaladores individuales o en grupos trepando uno de estos pilares, los cuales son especialmente idóneos para esta afición gracias a su superficie agujereada, que hace su escala practicable sin mucho dificultad.
I love the story of this product almost as much as I love to eat it. It is made in the USA, but by a family whose patriarch and company founder, David Tran, arrived here in 1978 as one of the “Boat People” who escaped Viet Nam via hair-raising adventures on a variety of water craft. In fact, the company name comes from the Taiwanese freighter, Huey Fong, on which David and 3,316 other refugees traveled.

Just 2 years later, in 1980, the company was founded in Southern California, and according to Wikipedia, sales were $60 million in 2012. The company has never advertised, depending on word of mouth. I am not sure how widely its use has spread, but it is ubiquitous in the San Francisco Bay Area where I live. I discovered it in the early 1980’s, and I always have bottles of both the garlic sauce and the sriracha in my refrigerator.

La libellule est un insecte de l'ordre des Odonates.
Elles ont des cousines qui leur sont très proches: les demoiselles. Les demoiselles ont leurs deux paires d'ailes de la même taille et volent moins vite.
Il y a environ 4900 espèces de libellules et de demoiselles sur la terre, dont 77 espèces en France.
La plus grosse libellule vivait au Carbonifère et mesurait 60 cm d'envergure.Elles ont sur la tête une paire d'antennes très courtes et deux grands yeux composés d'environ 30 000 yeux simples qui leur donnent une vue très perçante.
Leur appareil buccal (leur bouche) est de type broyeur : elles peuvent mordre quand on les capture.
Elles ont deux paires d'ailes transparentes et incolores qui ne se rabattent pas vers l'arrière au repos comme chez beaucoup d'insectes.
Leurs trois paires de pattes leur permettent de s'agripper aux plantes et de tenir les proies qu'elles ont capturées.
C'est un insecte diurne (qui vole le jour), vivant au bord des rivières et des étangs. Son vol est rapide et silencieux, avec de brusques changements de direction.
Sa nourriture : des insectes capturés en plein vol, maintenus par ses deux paires de pattes antérieures (de devant) et réduits en bouillie par ses pièces buccales (bouche) : moustiques, éphémères, papillons, mouches, taon ...
The dragonfly is an insect of the order of Odonates. They have cousins who are very similar for them, called “young ladies” in French. The “young ladies” have their two pairs of wings of the same size and fly less quickly. There are approximately 4900 species of dragonflies and young ladies on the Earth, including 77 species in France.
The largest dragonfly lived during Carboniferous and measured 60 cm of scale.
They have on the head a pair of very short antennas and two large eyes made up of approximately 30 000 simple eyes which give them a very piercing sight. Their oral apparatus (their mouth) is of crushing type: they can bite when they are captured.
They have two pairs of transparent and colourless wings which are not folded back towards the back at rest as at much of insects. Their three pairs of legs enable them to be clutched with the plants and to hold the preys they captured.
It is a diurnal insect (which flies during the day), living at the edge of the rivers and of the ponds. Its flight is fast and quiet, with abrupt changes of direction. Its food: insects captured in full flight, maintained by its two pairs of forefeet (of front) and reduced out of pulp by its oral parts (mouth): mosquitoes, day-flies, butterflies, flies, horseflies...

John is one of those "how can you work that many hours and still be standing?" people who makes sure the show actually goes on (and not just while the show goes on), and an amazingly cool guy, besides. He makes sure the fans can hear, and the musicians can hear what they are playing (if he's doing monitors).
Seen here running FOH for Kirk Joseph's "Tuba Tuba" show, at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, 2012. We completely lost count of how many shows we saw him at, including the one where he was just there to hear the band (and NOT working), and ended up bailing out the tech crew at one of the clubs on Frenchmen.

This triumphal arch was erected around 82 A.D. by emperor Domitian to commemorate his predecessor and brother Titus. This was to celebrate his victories, including the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. (when the Romans carried off the menorah from the temple - which is depicted on the arch).
In the middle ages the Frangipani family turned the arch into a fortified tower (they also fortified the nearby Colosseum). Restoration work on the arch was begun in 1817 Raffaele Stern.

You've seen this view before, but without the snow. Going from right to left, the old Scripture Building is being remodeled into Randy Boyd's law office; it is now Dix Conney Island, a great 24/7 eatery. Shrader's is gone after half a century. The appliance store is now a clothing store, but the jewlry shop is still there, as is the Fine Arts Theater. Ward's is now divided into the University of North Texas Art Gallery and Cartright's steak house. The other buildings on the block were destroyed by fire in 1996. You can find photos of the wreckage on this web site. The old MuClurkan's Building is visible in the distance, across West Hickory. It was the first steel framed building in Denton, Texas, and it dates from 1922. The camera is looking south-southwest, and the intersection of North Elm and West Oak is visible in the fore ground. UPDATE: The University of North Texas store has moved down the hill, and the site is now occupied by a commercial firm (April 2022).

5th MOC of 2017. Where have I been without touching Bionicle for so long?!
Anyway, this is my first time MOCing with parts from Bricklink. I absolutely LOVE teal/dark turquoise, and it's a real shame Lego discontinued it as a colour. Aside from this, it's a pretty solid MOC and I'm quite proud of how it ended up looking, given the small amount of parts available. I think it's one of my favourites overall, definitely one of the best proportions-wise, and I'm happy about how I managed not to ruin the colour scheme with oddly-coloured pins and rods here and there.
This is also the first time I'm trying a new setup, consisting of a couple of cheap lamps (one of which is a USB LED lamp I found in an Easter egg) and a simple dust cloth. Could be better, but it seems to do its job.

We didn't lose power, don't worry, but after me mentioning that we might lose power yesterday, she wanted to know what we would do without it :) So I told her that we would light up some candles and tell each other stories. She loved the idea and wanted me to turn off the lights tonight...She's the one who's telling me all kinds of stories and I just listen. She's got such a great imagination :)

After two months without my drobo and a month of vertigo I am finally, able to post again. I was so sick with vertigo that I did not use my computer much ! My apologies to all for the lack of commenting but hope to try and catch up in the weeks that follow.
This image was taken recently in Central Florida.
Having talked at length about it in the “actual” version of this photo featuring 637 without branding, here’s a mock up of what a navy spare could have looked like. In some alternate timeline perhaps 616/7/8/9 went into full Uni4 livery instead of silver and 637/8/9 into navy spare so there were seven navy E400s to replace all seven navy Omnidekkas.
Or have it vice versa so that 637-9 the 4s as they are in real life, and the ex-lilacs as navy spares with possibly something like 640 done as well. Under normal operation they’d make up the numbers on the 4, but outside of term time or whenever else needed they wouldn’t look out of place on the 1 or 48.
Colour-specific spares aren’t a new thing, as around 2021/22 time orange line had one when 627 was branded up as a common vehicle for the 34/35/36, and even on navy line when 970 and 971 were briefly in plain silver and navy before they gained Easyrider wraps. Plus of course most of the vehicles carry branding for all routes of the same colour now, such as the old 17s now being 15/16/17.
Navy line is a bit weird by nature, however, using two main corridors either side of the River Trent and converging at Clifton. The 49 can be ignored as a Parliament Street route, hence its omission, so the side branding is “Clifton > Queens Drive or Trent Bridge > Railway Station > City” to provide a rather generalised outline of the navy route core. The 3 tends to keep out of whatever the other TBG navy routes are doing so is also omitted.
As for the frequency branding, I used the 20 minute one off the 1 because it was the lowest, although I could have possibly left it off completely as none of the navy line frequencies bear any relation to each other. Besides, when NCT changed the frequency to say “up to every XYZ” instead of “from every XYZ”, I never understood if it meant “up to” as in you could be waiting up to 20 minutes, or if the frequency went up to every 20 minutes but sometimes dropped to less often.
Shifting the focus over to the actual Photoshop edit itself, this is the first edit I’ve done in nearly three years that isn’t an April Fools one. I only did it on a whim after writing the photo description mentioning the idea of navy spares and realised it’d be a very simple task to make one as a demonstration.
For the benefit of gullible people with no attention span I’ve highlighted that this is, in fact, an edited photo in the corner. You know, just in case some plonker tries to edit 637 on bustimes, because unfortunately there are some people on the internet nowadays who genuinely are that stupid. Previously when I’ve made photo edits such things weren’t even a concern, but that’s just the state of the world in 2026, sadly.
