We found mariposa lilies blooming along many roads and trails in the foothills of the Eastern Sierra in mid-June. I love the simplicity of these beautiful wildflowers.

As I sat on the reef at Pillar Point, Half Moon Bay I was 'entertained' by the Red-breasted Merganser as it casually swam by me without looking in my direction as I clicked away!

As I was standing below a grove of Century plants (shown in the image below) taking pic of a hummer, a Coopers Hawk flew out that must have been watching me. I heard a loud peeping sound and looked up to see this juvenile Coopers Hawk. When I took this shot I thought it was looking at a hummer (not in the pic) but when I got home found this bee flying in front of him 'without a care'!

Right firstly no photo shopping has taken place on either image in this photo.
The other day my wife called me in to watch an advert on TV so I tottered in to see a woman on the screen with an amazing waist the image then went on to show the cause of said waistline.
Basically it was an extreme body shaper. My wife suggested I should give it a go! What was she trying to say I thought!!!!
Well that afternoon we hunted the product down and the above image it the result of this item .
The first image is with the body shaper and it does give a nice shape and its not that uncomfortable to wear. I went for the small/medium and it is small but still works the medium/large I think would be more comfortable but might not give the same results.
The second image is how I would normally look as I don't often wear support garments still not bad if you squint lol but I do have a rather chubby middle. .
I've been very fortunate this past week.....three different dragonfly encounters on three separate days.
The shimmer of color on this fellow's wings was magical to see through the lens....

When one lives in a foreign country without having permanent residency, it is a legal requirement that you must leave the country and come back in with a new tourist visa. I had to do this in Portugal and then in Thailand. With the three months quickly approaching, one of the Americans who I met around the pool at the Miami Hotel suggested that I meet him in Karachi Pakistan where he was working with an American company Now, this sounded like an adventure, I thought.
It was not easy to get a visa. I was a single American woman and Pakistan was still a very strict Muslim country. After several trips to their embassy in Bangkok, I was finally granted one right before the Pam Am plane was high jacked in Karachi. I didn’t waiver on my plans to go, even though the very intrepid folks at Lucy’s Tiger Den didn’t think it was wise. My thoughts were that terrorists usually don’t strike the same target again; at least not with in a short time frame.
In 1987, the security screening of passengers in Karachi resembled those of today. Other new sights and customs also filled my mind while I was almost blown over by the intense dry heat of Karachi. It was truly stifling and by this time I was used to temperatures in the 100’s (F). Many days I could only find strength to swim in the pool at the hotel.
The relationship between the American man and myself was not very compatible and soon I wished I had never ventured on this trip. He apparently felt the same way and said asked if had ever wanted to travel to another country in the region. I told him Sri Lanka and he gave me a ticket to go to this war torn country. I was not in the habit of taking such gifts from men, but in this case it seemed like the expedite thing to do.
Before I left Pakistan I went to the Thai embassy and asked for a new visa so I could return there. By this time, Thailand truly felt like my home. I also had my film developed and learned that Pakistan did superior work. I still cherish the few pictures I took in Pakistan.

The Maryhill Stonehenge is a replica of Stonehenge in England located in Maryhill, Washington. It was commissioned in the early twentieth century by businessman Samuel Hill and dedicated on July 4, 1918 as a memorial to those who had died in World War I. The memorial was completed in 1929. It is constructed of concrete.

Le discriminazioni storiche delle donne in India vanno diminuendo tra le caste alte, ma rimangono drammatiche negli strati inferiori della società
Dalla nascita, le figlie femmine valgono molto meno dei maschi.
Le bambine non vengono nutrite nè curate come i figli maschi, le donne vengono sfruttate nelle attività domestiche e percepiscono salari inferiori agli uomini, svolgono lavori durissimi e, viaggiando per l’India, si ha spesso l'impressione che lavorino solo loro. A volte subiscono torture sessuali e stupri da parte delle stesse forze dell'ordine, la prassi dotale non è venuta meno e si è anzi ulteriormente diffusa e nonostante la legislazione vieti di rivelare il sesso del nascituro durante le ecografie, il 99 % degli aborti riguarda feti femmina. Le figlie sono considerate come detto un peso per la famiglia, un investimento senza nessun ritorno e nelle aree rurali del Sud tradizionalmente era addirittura la stessa nonna paterna ad incaricarsi di avvelenare la neonata, ovviamente mai registrata all'anagrafe.
Meno cibo, meno cure, niente scuole, a volte persino l'eliminazione fisica o, la vendita ai mercanti di carne che ne faranno una prostituta.
Se nascere femmine è una disgrazia in India, essere vedove è quasi intollerabile: queste ultime sono accusate della morte del marito, se non praticamente, a causa dei propri peccati.
Scoraggiati i secondi matrimoni, le vedove giovani vengono spesso avviate alla prostituzione.
La legislazione non permette più alcuna discriminazione nei rapporti tra uomini e donne ma non è raro incontrare ancora riti e tradizioni che fino a mezzo secolo fa erano ritenuti "normali". Ora se non si tratta di fatti di particolare gravità la società indiana tende comunque a tollerare le vecchie usanze.La donna deve essere capace soprattutto di concepire. E' chiaro che la donna non esercita la sua libera volontà. Alla base vi è una concezione generale del mondo diversa dalla nostra perchè condizionata dalla fede nella reincarnazione. La donna deve dar corso della continuità di essa quindi diventa inconcepibile l'arrestarsi della discendenza. La donna sterile, o avente solo figlie femmine fino a poco tempo fa poteva essere ripudiata. La vedova doveva morire sullo stesso rogo del marito (inteso come suo unico Dio), per secoli un fatto d'obbligo. Questa usanza ora gravemente punita viene ancora seguita in qualche sperduto villaggio indiano

Padley Gorge, Peak District, UK.
Busy morning yesterday. Up early to shoot sunrise at Over Owler Tor as it's close to Padley Gorge where I wanted to photograph Autumn along the brook.
Bumped into a nice chap by the 'popular millstone'. We met again at the Gindleford end. After chatting some more and him telling he's called Richard and his website address I realised he was Richard Wheeler. I'd come across his fantastic work before. In my opinion, he's one of the best photographers of the Peak District. So if you've not seen his work before, here's his Flickr account and you can get his website link from his profile. Maybe buy a print or a 2012 calendar? :)

Incidentally, I thought I'd found this composition all by myself. It's the only one I kept going back to during the morning (or maybe the only one I could work out). But, I've now realised Richard has a fantastic shot of it already. He didn't mention that when I was showing him on the back of my camera. I said I liked the lead in of the waterfalls but not the big rock on the right. Thanks for saying you though it was OK Richard. We also had an interesting conversation about including people in landscapes.
I've been a few times to photograph Padley Gorge and found it really hard work. Glad I got a couple of shots this time.
